^ 3 potentially good things about the DJ; LP record piece (like in haunted house) + jeans (like rapper) + probably an interesting hair piece :o)
That's my point. We all see potential in different figs. And my intial 'mehs' usually become my favs once I have them in my hand (eg series 7 Rock Chick).

I'd love to see some headphone accessories on the DJ fig, and I'll hazard a guess that the 'trader' translation is more likely 'businessman, with bowler hat.

I hope so. I've just dyed a small clown's bowler hat black, but would prefer a real one.

A lot of the characters on that list have been "wants" on this thread.

There could be some real duds on that list, but we'll have to wait and see. I found in S7 there were no real duds, so at least they are easy to trade if you don't want them, unlike eg S5 fitness instructor. I know some people don't like the evil knight, as he is too similar to other castle themes, whereas I am now up to about 25 of them! I also seem to have collected at least 12 galaxy patrols, and I'm not even into the space themes that much. I thought I would love the Aztec, but didn't like him as much once I got him.

Yeah, opinion is always hugely diverse when it comes to the CMFs - often I find myself in the minority when it comes to the minifigs that I don't care for. People also differ in how they intend on using the minifigures. I often see that people are happy with multiple skaters, for example, because they have a City layout or a MOC skate park to add them to; whereas for me, I'll only ever display the CMFs by series. That's why I really don't like getting male/female varients of the same minifigure.

I kind of don't think the DJ will come with a disc. The disc in the Haunted House uses stickers on a 2x2 round tile, which suggests that they won't have a disc element or a printed element. And I don't see CMFs with stickers now.

Agreed, on all counts. The minifigure from Series 7 that I own the most of is the Computer Programmer. It's not wildly popular because it's not "cool" or wielding a weapon, but to me it's an awesome "ordinary person" minifigure that I can use as an army builder of a different sort.

Yeah, I have a few too. The office builder. I might even add a basement to one of my buildings for the IT crowd.

I created this Forum topic CMF 8 in anticipation for their release - now that we have some rumors - here are my thoughts - I have bolded the one's I predicted correctly.

Ancient Thespis - Sounds neat, maybe he will be holding a new skull mold
Pirate Captain - I don't like seeing rehashes of previous themes/CMF - so I am not excited for this one
Conquistador - This has the potential to be cool - need to see a picture before I form an opinion
Enemy Robot - Another robot/cyborg type character - these are getting redundant
Evil Female Alien - ditto above - another alien - wohooo - SYKE!
Diver - If this is of the old fashioned variety - I will be very pleased
Vampire - You have to be joking - how many vampires can we make?
Fairy - I guess this one is for the girlies - not too excited about it
Football Player - If this is of the American variety - then I'm excited - I would still take a Euro Footballer if he actually comes with a Football
Trader - I assume this is a business type person (maybe a stock trader) - has the potential to be cool
Skier - Probably female - so not very excited
Red Cheerleader - lame lame lame lame - haha - one is bad enough
Santa Claus - This better not be the same old santa we are always given (the skinny one) - Santa is not skinny!
Boy in Bavarian costume - Very excited about this one!!!
DJ - headphones??!!! - that would make this DJ worthwhile
Cowgirl - I pray that this is a girl in a Cow costume - but it probably isn't - so I am a little let down by this one as well

Summary - Excited for a couple of these figs (minus the rehashes and female figs) - but I will still pick up all of them..

not a huge fan of the new list.....dont forget cheerleaders come in the boys too...that would be FUNNY....and im hoping for American footballer.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^I'm hoping for a white uniformed footballer in blue & gold team colors to represent the Chargers! Doubtful, but I can only hope... More likely to see a NY Giants colored one.

These better be better than how they sound. Need pics to make final decision. To be honest I think Series 7 is a hard series to follow up on.
I guess most of our avatars tell you the types of characters we like.
Which reminds me - you lot without avatars yet .. come on u know u want to ..
I actually don't. My little emote face thingy personifies me so well. I would be a fool to cover it up. :P

    I have done it!

Anyway the only one that interests me is the Thespian. More Historical CMF's please TLG.

Don't think we'll get a new skull mould as the current 'mould' is the shape of minifig heads - why would we assume that skulls of minifigs look any different? But anyway, a skull would suggest a Shakespearean actor which isn't 'ancient' but 'early modern'.

    There's a good mix of the good, the bad and the downright repetitive in this series. Like most people on this forum, I'm excited by the;
    - Ancient Thespis, Conquistador, Boy in Bavarian Costume and Footballer provided he's a Gridiron and NOT a Soccer Player.

    I can accept the;
    - Pirate Captain, Trader, Cowgirl, Fairy and Santa Claus since these seem to be unique.

The remaining figures are just an illustration of how Lego are running out of ideas and why they need to wind up this theme.
    - Evil robot - this will be the third robot that we've had.
    - Skier - previously done in series 2 although this one is female.
    - Red cheerleader - done in series 1.
    - Diver - series 1 again
    - Vampire - series 2 plus Monster Fighters has been released.
    - Female Alien - again, this will be the third reincarnation.
    - DJ - this one I'm not sure about. He may be likethe rapper in series 3, or the Disco dude in series 2. I'll wait for pics before making a final decision.

Overall, disappointing due to the repetitive nature of many of these figures. Not too impressed I'm afraid.

@Thego - yeah I realized after I posted that I was thinking of the wrong time period - I saw this flickr.com/photos/65553751@N03/7030348519/in/set-72157629339292514/ and though it would be cool - I'm referring to the court jester looking guy - looks like a thespian to me.. maybe next time.. there are a lot of great ideas on that flikr page
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
@BrickDancer I am hoping for either Dark Purple/Gold (yellow) for LSU or even Black and Gold for Saints! Actually thinking about it they should just do them all white and let us add our personal touch to make it "Our Team" colors :)
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
Concerning the female alien that everyone seems to be putting a downer on, if we get either the Mars Attacks style head or the Alien(s) style alien, I'd be all over them. These are from Alexandre Bourdon's ideas sheet that have formed the basis of so many of the CMF ...

^ Maybe santa will be getting a big belly after all
If it was, I think it would most likely be an 'extended' beard mould, encompassing a belly as well.

I'm amazed at how negative people are being.
  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
^ I'm not, people love to moan.

"Oh why are only England getting the english olympic figs!!!"
"Oh why do US pay so much less than us?"
"Oh why release a tennis player, he has no-one to play against"
"Oh why release another tennis player, we already have one of them"
    "Jabba's palace is too small"
    "Sopwith shouldn't be green!"
    etc, etc, to infinity!!!

I think the criticisms have been fairly reasonable. Apart from a few novel-sounding minfigs, it sounds fairly repetitive. Again I'll reserve judgement until pictures surface (there has been some debate about Czech translations in other dicussions) but IMO it's far from an inspiring list.

^ Criticism of a rumoured list, based upon a few (possibly miss translated) names is not exactly fairly reasonable, we have no idea how they will turn out at this stage and as you say judgement should be reserved until images have been provided/leaked IMO.

Agreed. People aren't being negative, they're being critical. Instead of being fanbois who gush at the smallest little thing, they're making observations.

In all honesty, Series 8 sounds like a dud. While I can't say for certain until I actually see them, most of the figures don't sound interesting and several are suspiciously like retreads of earlier ones (and there's plenty of precedent for that in the CMF line).

    For "observations", I read "assumptions".

If the diver is Atlantis or S1 style, it will be a dud. If it is a new diver, with a copper style diving bell helmet, it will be cool. And so on for every other "repeat" figure.
  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
OK, whatever, carry on your bitching then!
How on earth can you judge these figures based upon what you have so far?
I give up, people don't seem to want to even give anything a chance these days.

  • SilentModeSilentMode Member Posts: 586
Which is why we should wait for pictures to come out!

But since we're doing the premature thing, I will probably end up collecting small armies of the so-called "undesirables". The Cheerleader is one I've been rooting for since S5, as well as the Fairy, and I'm intrigued by the Female Alien, Robot, DJ and perhaps even Santa. Maybe even the Cowgirl.

The great part about having 16 figs that are so diverse is that everyone can have their favorites and their not-so-favorites.. I don't think anyone is unreasonable to call out the ones they like and don't like.. even if this list isn't set in stone and even if we are speculating what they will look like.. I have detailed the one's I am excited for - and the one's I probably won't be excited for (I noted the one's I have to see to form an opinion about).. I think most people fall in this boat of simply voicing their opinion (that's what a forum is for) - and a lot of people who commented on here prior to the this rumor have seen some great ideas and have added their awesome ideas as well (one's that would actually be made - not just pipe dreams).. So they are probably a little let down that some of those dreams didn't come true (if this list is accurate).. I for one am not excited about a few of the female figs - that's my preference - but I'm sure that a 12 year old girl would be syked about all the female figs - so everyone wins and loses a little bit - I like that

In summary - I'm glad that everyone can hate and like this set for different reasons - it gives us a great topic to talk about and discuss - and makes the series that much better - and I'm glad TLG hasn't wasted every good idea it has on this series - that would cause them to run out of ideas even faster - it's a good mix of lame and awesome - just like every other series - and hopefully every series to come

    Amen!

The complaints are highly premature, why start the whining before we even have preliminary images of figures? Normally I don't really know if I like a minifigure until I have it in hand, I know I'm certainly not able to judge from a list of names.

Lego has surprised us many times before, and the previous minifigure series have been increasing in quality, so I have high hopes for this one as well.

Same here. I thought the S7 Evil Knight was a bit boring when I saw the picture of him. I now have an army of 20+ of them. I thought the Aztec Warrior and the Ocean King were going to be my favourites of S7, but that turned out to be wrong. I even had 10 Aztecs at one stage, and decided to get rid of them.

Chinese warrior just like the terracotta warriors or Chinese emperor.

BTW if you are a CMF collector, there is a recent DK Lego sticker book out, it contains all CMF from series 1 to 7. It was really fun playing with the stickers. There are lots of extras to stick elsewhere too.

Our book arrived yesterday, very nice, and loads of spare stickers!! - kids love it!!! thanks for the tip.

Has anyone else noticed their Walmart and Targets (US) getting more shipments of Series 7 minifigures? I was at 2 of each store today and they each had 2-3 boxes hanging on shelves when they were just out a few weeks ago!

All look pretty good to me. Even the 'repeats' (robot, alien, etc) are different enough to be worth picking up. Love the vampire bat guy and the conquistador.
