[US] Buy One, Get One 50% Off 3/25 - 3/31 at Toys R Us

Excellent sale at TRU right now. Buy One Get One 50% off. Best part is the 30% off and 10% off sale from last week is still going on (accidentally I believe). So the BOGO is stacking nicely with that. Hurry while you can.

Also, the Wolverine Chopper set is BOGOing as well.

Unfortunately it looks like the GE, PS, and FB are all out of stock currently. I'll be watching closely for a re-stock!

The Pet Shop and GE were indeed in stock when the sale went live. Keep checking during the week.

^ Doh - that other part of this site.

I was able to get PS and GE. I had a couple of Excavators in my cart all the way up until PayPal payment, and then they just disappeared.

Winter Post Office is a nice deal. $59.99 at TRU to begin with (which is less than $69.99 MSRP). Plus 10% off now, bringing it down to $53.99. Then BOGO it to bring it down to $40.49.

As seems to be the way with TRU, the previous week's discounts are still live now that we're into the BOGO. Here's a great chance to try and stack your savings. If you buy the Forest Police Station and Police Helicopter right now, it will cost you only $90 for a savings of $40 or 31% Off MSRP.

XL grey baseplates are marked down to $13.49 and are BOGO eligible as well - bringing them down to about $10.12 before tax. Pretty good deal if you don't get these through LUGBULK.

I find that I'm always too indecisive to act on these stroke of midnight deals but finally caved:

    Forest Police Station
    Police Heavy Lift Helicopter
    Wolverine Chopper
    City Dump Truck
    **********************************

Assuming the Wolverine set retails at $19.99, I saved an aggregate of 29.4% [I don't want to hear it about that missing the DDDT by 0.6% @drdavewatford :o) ] on my purchase of the above 4 sets. Of course it's Toys R Us, so you never know when an order will get canceled.

Funny thing is that I had an FAO giftcard (yeah, go figure) but the TRU website wouldn't accept it. I thought about ordering through FAO but they weren't registering the stacked discounts.

This just goes to show you that there are indeed deals to be had by our friend Toys R Us.....so long as you're not into Quidditch. ;o)

Wow - this is great. Glad I stayed up late tonight.

    I got:

    2 x Shuttle Expedition (was $89 before BOGO50)
2 x Winter Village Post Office (was $54 before BOGO50)
    2 x Winter Bakery (was $49.50 before BOGO50)

I'm moving this week, so I sent these to my parents in Delaware with no tax. Going to be nice to MOC next fall with all those winter parts!

I saw a couple other ones I was tempted with... Maersk Train is under MSRP barely and VW Camper is just over MSRP. Both could add 2 to the shopping cart. I already have both of those, so I'm going to wait and see if some other stuff comes back in stock.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
I just realized that you can save 40% Off MSRP right now if you buy 2 Robie Houses. If only I wanted one, let alone two.
  • snowtygersnowtyger Member Posts: 47
I think TRU just nerf'd me; it took out the maersk train sets, then I think, tried to issue a credit (I had used a gift card and CC). My guess is I've got some explaining to do...

Wow, this was amazing! Thanks so much.

Also, 5887 Dino Defense HQ - great deal! On sale and eligible for the BOGO! The cost of 2 is almost the same as 1 at RRP.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ Unfortunately, my LEGO city has zoning ordinances that clearly restrict against exhibiting these types of exotics. Thus, I bought a dump truck. :o)
  • littletokilittletoki Member Posts: 519
Clearly with all that trash, your city has a bear problem! Good thing you picked up some Forest Police.
  • pumperxpumperx Member Posts: 106
Thank you so much for posting this. I just spend about $900 picking up sets here and there. Ones worth mentioning are Maersk trainx2 and vw vanx2. My son has been wanting Dino HQ so i got that too. Such a great deal as littletoki mentioned above! I guess browsing the forum before bed really pays off.

^ If only we still gleaned affiliate income from TRU. :o)

^^ I figured it would take a larger show of force to dissuade Wolverine from visiting. ;o)
  • snowtygersnowtyger Member Posts: 47
I forgot to thank you too! I think my wallet's in shock, but my boy will be happy!
  • ptericpteric Member Posts: 156
I see the cmf series 5 and 6 are bogo, but the best bet would be hit the store for those.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
8404 Public Transport, which has been discontinued directly from LEGO, is on sale and BOGO 50 eligible. Unfortunately its limited to 1, and there's nothing I want to pair it with.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
^ yeah, I was thinking that too. The best match I could come up with in terms of something that I actually want would be MVR. $100 + $80 ($40 BOGO) = $140 total, or ~$70/ea. Not all that hot, but still good if you want both sets.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
8404 is on sale for 89.99 so your total will be $10 less
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 819
Surfing around on tru website right now and all sets are marked back to regular price. No more 10% or 30% off sets and then additional BOGO50% showing up.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Totally missed this sale (for all the big items I would have wanted.) Will keep checking throughout the week. Thanks everyone - and congrats to those who got deals!

Proof that the early bird does not get the worm :) of all nights to go to bed early.

Is there a reason that the mobile version of the website is showing last week's sales? Just error?
  • dsdg88dsdg88 Member Posts: 133
Looks like TRU has now over corrected on some items: batcave was $64 (RRP $70) last week and during the overlap. Now it is $90!
  • pumperxpumperx Member Posts: 106
^^^ Indeed, all the 10% and 30% off are gone. They are all back to original (marked) price with BOGO. I guess it was a mistake to begin with.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ Yeah, one of the best times to catch TRU sales is the transition between sales early Sunday morning - you can often get the stacking.
  • parkerwilsonparkerwilson Member Posts: 142
Grr, the one day I don't get on the computer all day
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^By 2am PST when I checked, TRU and FAO were all out of the good stuff. So it was very small window to begin with.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
I got online right around 12am PST, at which point there were no modulars, DAs, or TBs. So, if there were any of those to begin with, they were gone in minutes.

I did mange to grab 2x MMV. I had 2 more in my cart for awhile, but was hemming and hawing adding some other items, removing them, etc, and by the time I finally checked out the second 2 MMVs were out of stock, so I didn't get those. Oh well.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
@dsdg88 -These "over-corrected" TRU prices are their normal prices. :o(

    @BrickDancer - A lot can happen in 5 hours. :o)

Thank you again for the heads up! :)

In your experience, do they honor the stocking discounts? It seemed obvious that the extra 10% and 30% applying to the BOGO was an error.

I'm surprised that MMV allow two in the cart...

I really wanted the Pet shops.. the silly thing was a Check TRU at about 11pm last night (central US) and the site did not show anything in regards to a BOGO...
Oh well, there is always next time.

As for being online at 12pm PST, that is 2am in Central and 3am in Eastern.. you have to get online at about 9pm your time if you want in on the good stuff (if my arithmetic is correct)
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,492
I was on about 12:40 EST time, and the PS, GE, and FB were all out of stock, in other words the only sets I would be interested in at TRUs. So for all you that got on 1-2 hours after the sale started, these things were literally flying off the shelves and I imagine were gone within minutes.
Be watching Amazon for a price match and sign-up for TRUs E-mail alerts for those that missed it!
    Cheers,

@littletoki - I don't expect any issues (knocks on wood) as this promotional crossover literally happens every Sunday for them online. Additionally and for those of us trying to pick up items of limited availability, what choice do we have but to purchase the sets at the price they reflect?

With nearly every set discounted from the normal TRU price, they would have to cancel most every order from last night up through this morning. I dont know why they don't fix the issue as their sister sites don't have the problem. Perhaps its purposeful to help prime the sales pump on the coming week.

No matter the reason, I personally see no issues with holding a company's feet to the fire on a "reasonable" advertised price....especially a company that is currently trying to sell sets 30% to 80% over MSRP.

Oh yeah, I was lucky as it is, as had I known about the sale, I would have been on at 9pm like I normally am. For whatever reason, this one came to us as more of a surprise than normal.

  • littletokilittletoki Member Posts: 519
That is good news @Yellowcastle - I was just a little cautious that they might try to back out.

I have no qualms about paying the stated price as well! Especially from a company whose internal pricing memos on Lego must surely reference "bending over the customer" as much as possible. I mean, $90 for the Batcave?! >.<

@dougts - your wife didn't raise any eyebrows that I was texting you at midnight?! LOL. She's pretty awesome!
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
    ^ she was asleep. ;-)

but nah, as soon as she would have heard LEGO, it would have been an eyeroll and maybe an "oh brother". ;-)
  • littletokilittletoki Member Posts: 519
^ That's hilarious! Completely different response at my house. James was by my side going "Great find, honey!! See if he wants to go in halfsies on the Dino HQ".

Which isn't always such a good thing when you're trying to budget Lego spending. :\
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
@dougts - You can blame this one on me. I got back from playing cards early Saturday morning and found the flyer in my Sunday Ads section of the paper. I should have posted it before kickoff. To be honest, I've been really reticent these days to post any TRU deals as their new pricing strategies are just offensive to the senses.

I purposefully skipped posting the 30% Sale last week knowing that it was at least mentioned in the Forum. But with the LEGO Direct sets at or near MSRP and in stock this week, there were great deals to be had. I didnt even consider the likely stacking opportunities for the first several hours!

I don't understand why I didn't get any emails from TRU about the BOGO. I received only email about outdoor toys and other stuff. Haven't received any Lego ads in a while now. Anyone else?
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ Same here. Been getting lots of Babies R Us emails though - even though I haven't bought anything from there in a couple of years.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^^ I get what seems to be 400 emails from TRU and BRU every week but few if any of them are about the coming week's advertised sales. They're always about some cyber deals or last minute "Two Day Sale."
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
I got the BOGO advert this morning at 8am (8 hours after the sale started) which, again, is worthless when the sale starts at 12 AM EDT.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Last email I got from TRU was Friday for backyard stuff. Today I received two emails from BRU.
  • maesterjaymaesterjay Member Posts: 71
Question for people who might have gone to the store for the BOGO. I was wondering how the receipt reads the prices? Is one set clearly 50% off or is it split? I was wondering because if I bought two things and had to return just one how would they do it? Some stores place a return credit on sales like this...
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
Anyone know if TRU is restocking the sets online, or if its out for good?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ Definitely keep checking throughout the week.
