Valuation of Star Wars Naboo Starfighter 10026

I am looking into buying a new copy of the Star Wars Naboo Starfighter set (10026) but the price for this set is really baffling me. The price guide on Bricklink has this a little over $300. Checking completing ebay auctions this has gone anywhere from $250+ to almost $500. Original retail value was around $40. It has the set number of a UCS but only comes with 187 pieces. No minifigures included. At such a ridiculously small piece count, can someone explain to me why this is so darn expensive?

Was it released in super small quantity? Does it include out of print bricks?

The set has a number of unique chrome bricks that are very valuable, but I'm sure the scarcity of this set also makes it more expensive. There are a lot of UCS completionists that want the set...

Interesting - I was under the impression that 10026 was a somewhat unloved set, but those prices are eye-watering...

I have to admit I'm a big fan and thankfully managed to get hold of the set a few years back. The chrome is gorgeous, but even allowing for this the set was overpriced when available at retail and hence the scarcity as presumably few people bought it.

Good luck in your search, and to sustain you on your quest I've attached a nice picture of mine below !

I sold mine mint in box to a collector in Germany via BrickLink for $275. I bought it for $6. :)

I always thought it was very strange that this set wasn't bigger, like all other UCS sets. Hey Russell, got any more, did you know there's a polybag newspaper offer coming up in the UK soon ;-)

Sorry Andy, I only had the one. I had to sell it out of necessity. And you had me at polybag newspaper offer lol!

The second hand prices for this set do seem to be all over the shop compared to other UCS sets which are relatively stable. My only advice is be patient, I was looking to complete my Star Wars UCS collection without needing a new mortgage and just before christmas managed to pick one up on ebay for about 40 english pounds. No box but had instructions and all stickers and bricks were in great condition.

Well, I finally got one misb for about $280 a week back. More then I wanted to pay for such a small piece count but glad to finally add it to the collection.

^ Incredible isn't it?! I paid £50 for my MISB just 3 years ago! Mental!!!

Still, you're right to buy now before it goes any higher.

If it wasn't for the nice shiny pieces, I wonder how popular this set would be. I never bought it because I think it is overpriced. My brother on the other hand I think has 3 of them. Probably a good move by him. I would just like to let you know that you can look at the last 30 sold items for a set on my site. Here you can view the listings for 10026 (http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=10026-1). Look right under the right graph. You said you paid $280 for yours and it is listed in there. You did A LOT better than the fools that paid over $450 for that set. It's an easy way to research what people are paying for LEGO sets and we are getting the data directly from eBay.

@jeffmace, thanks, that's a really informative website. There's no way I would pay anywhere near $400+ for that set. I take that back, maybe if it came packed with a set of chrome mini figs :)
