Hi All,

Long time lurker here, but hopefully will be posting as frequently as I can in the future!

Some people may already know me as I have been a Brickish Association (UK AFOL group) member for about 9 years and been to quite a lot of shows and gatherings in that time.

I would definitely class myself as a collector and not a builder, although I do manage to build a few things a year for myself and public displays.

My collecting is very general (anything and everything!) but I am particularly interested in the more obscure things like Promos, Polybags, Books/catalogs, pre-plastic wooden toys, error/marbled parts, Bayer Bricks, 'Tat' and Modulex. I can't resist anything that is limited numbers either.

I do have a lot of 'normal' sets, not sure exactly how many, but it is at least 2,000. I keep them in their boxes/bags and don't split them into my parts for building with ... that is separate! I plan to inventory my entire collection this year and log them on this site (done Star Wars only so far and a few others I remembered). I have sets from a wide range of themes, but Star Wars is my personal favourite and I have nearly all the sets and promos etc (currently showing as 93% complete), just mainly missing the co-packs, 3-in-1s and some of the harder to find toy fair/comic con stuff.

For work I get to 'play' with LEGO too, for the moment I am currently running my Bricklink store full-time.

Thanks for reading!
Darren

Welcome to the forum, Darren, it's good to have you on board. You'll find the focus here is more buying and collecting than the in Brickish forum so you should feel right at home :-)

93% on Star Wars, that's good collecting! Welcome Darren, fellow Brickish member and collector here. Glad to have you on-board. Don't forget to share your collection once you've got it logged on Brickset, would like to have a good look at that.

    Hi Darren,
I'm also a Brickish member but only recent so haven't had chance to meet you yet!

Sounds like you will be right at home here. I think you and @collect_that may have been separated at birth, he loves all the promo stuff too.

Congratulations on 93% completeness on Star Wars, that's quite an accomplishment!

Look forward to seeing you around the site!

Thanks Huw, I just sent a message using the 'Contact page about adding in some missing Star wars sets ... don't know if that was the right place for it or not! I would be happy to details in whatever format you need to make them easier to add in if you can.

Atkinsar - I think my sets are public already? (unless I did something wrong). Currently at 665, but still a lot of sorting and logging for me to do!

Atkinsar/LostInTranslation - Are you going to the Brickish AGM? Would be good to meet you there if you are.

^ Yes, I'll be there. I'm running for Secretary actually :)

Yep I'll be at the AGM on the Saturday, will see you there. Will start checking out your collection soon!

    @Gizmocom

Darren, I think we may need to talk! LOL!

Great to have have you here!

^ Good luck with that. I would say you have my vote, but don't know who else is up for it! I thought about putting myself forward for nomination a few years ago, but didn't in the end and now I don't think I would have the time to do it.

Hi Darren - great to have you here on the forums. See you at the AGM!
Lucy & Gary are both running for the Secretary post. Julie is running for re-election as Vice Chair; Rhys has decided to run against her.

@collect_that - Yes, it seems like we may have a lot in common! Could be a long conversation though as I can talk the legs off a minifigure once I get going!

^^^^ Now see, if you were a Brickish member you could have met at the AGM... should've listened to me, shouldn't you?

^^^ I'm up for it, what else do you need to know?? (up for the election that is, before anyone starts).
  • GizmocomGizmocom Member Posts: 25
Thanks Ian, looking forward to it already!

I always find the voting at the AGM hard. It is almost impossible to choose between two (or more) people who you know will do the job equally well!

^ I'm so new a member that this will be my first AGM. Excited yet nervous.
I look forward to meeting you there and I promise I won't be offended if you don't vote for me :)

Welcome Darren. I too am a reasonably recent addition to Brickish. Will be good to meet up with you and the others in a couple of weeks. James.

The AGM is always amazing. It really is about the social aspect as there isn't any public there. Most shows you hardly have any time to socialise. The first event I went to when I joined was the AGM and have only missed one since when I was in New Zealand ... so I think that is a good enough excuse!

Hi James, seems there has been a lot of recent Brickish members! |Look forward to meeting you too.

@LostInTranslation - if you become secretary I will! (Just so you can fast track mine and Sarahs applications)

@Gizmocom - If me and @atkinsar can clock up two hour polybag conversations, me and you might need a lot of tea bags!! Where abouts do you come from?
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
^ You're the second person today to say that to me, after @legopants.
Of course, if you were to sign up now, you might be in time to actually vote for me...

@collect_that - In in Exeter, Devon. Funnily enough I have been sorting out my Polys in the last couple of days and was quite surprised at how many I had! I wouldn't say I go out of my way to collect them, but if I see ones I don't have then I always pick them up. If I am putting an order with someone on Bricklink then I will always check to see if there are ones I don't have, I got the new friends ones and the large Brickley like this in the last couple of days! I am limiting myself to keeping 2 of each now and the rest are Bricklink store fodder, but most of these multiples are the more common ones. My spreadsheet (that will soon be transferred on-site) says I have just over 200 different ones and I am still finding them!

I bet you have more, do you know roughly how may you have?

    ^ really?

I know it's a bit silly but it's the fact that you have to post a check that has stopped me joining, I'm not sure where to even start looking for a chequebook that hasn't been used for 3+ years!

    Welcome Darren :D

Hi, another recent Brickish member here. I wasn't going to go to the AGM, but just found out I'll probably have time so hope to see you there.

(the cheque put me off too but I think you can paypal now)
(edit .. just checked, you can renew with Paypal - its nagging me to right now when I log in- but have to do the first one by cheque for some reason).

Hi Darren, welcome to the forum, and see you at the AGM !

@Gizmocom sorry, that '^ really?' wasn't meant for you we just cross posted and know it looks like I am questioning your pb collection or something!
  • collect_thatcollect_that Member Posts: 1,327
Aint got a clue, I'm rubbish at organizing my lego! Was (still am??) moving house soon, so I've been digging out all sorts, and will finally list everything on Brickset. Japanese polys and promos has been this weeks project! LOL! On a strict 1 only, unless it's a licensed theme, then two per poly.

Please tell me you collect Promo bricks, I feel like a loner being the only one?
  • GizmocomGizmocom Member Posts: 25
@collect-that I don't really collect them, but I do have quite a few! I like to get all the LLW ones if I can. They can't be the weirdest thing to collect, surely ... I have quite a few Legoland paper cups, plates and serviettes here!

Hey, welcome Darren. Good to see you here! For anyone that visited GWLS last year at STEAM, Darren was there so I bet most of you have seen/spoken to him. He was working with me in my Brickends store (we make a great team!). We'll both be at AFOLCON/The LEGO Show as well.

Thanks Martin! I now have a load more Polybags to bring now after my sortout!
