^ I'm pretty certain the deal will start at 12 midnight BST for those of us in the UK, at least that's how it has worked in the past. With last years Shadow ARF promo, it started at 12am and those of us that stayed up to order were hit with a problem where the Shadow ARF didn't automatically add to the cart despite all other aspects of the promo being live. It was chaos and I ended putting a second order through in the morning to ensure I got at least one. I ended up getting my Shadow ARF from my first order in the end, but I know some people that didn't.

Are these in the UK likely to sell out before the end of the day?
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
I would guess that stocks will last longer than one day, they did last year if memory serves correctly. However, as with all these things, always better to be safe than sorry and get your order in as early as possible.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
Right so we all we have to do is stay up past midnight on Thursday after day 1 of Afolcon... judging by what I'm hearing from certain members of the Brickset posse it will probably be a late one anyway!!

  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
@atkinsar, I remember that chaos, but I have to admit I thought they ran out that day.
I also ended up ordering multiple times and only one order went through correctly and I remember thinking that it was lucky I re-ordered because if I hadn't I wouldn't have got one as they were all out by the time they sorted it. My memory isn't brilliant though so maybe I have it slightly wrong.

    ^ Drunk ordering :-P
I ordered my UCS Falcon whilst drunk at Centreparcs on a mobile with a 2g connection.

@princedraven, you may well be right, I thought they lasted into a second day but my memory sucks too.

Any ideas what time this will start on the 4th? 00:00 EST? 00:00 GMT?
It starts at 12:00-12:01am EST. Once the clock strikes that time, be refreshing your page like crazy. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the deals to finally pop up, but when they do they all come up at the same time and go within minutes.
I only said that in regards to the United States. As far as the EU goes I really don't know how they run the sale there.

So, did these sneak out a back door of a factory, or these going out already as a promo overseas? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lego-Star-Wars-Minifig-Sealed-TC-14-Silver-C-3PO-Exclusive-Promo-Set-Rare-888-/180861856840?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1c34ec48

The seller has quite a few..
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,492
Location is everything. He's located in HK, and I'm guessing that the TC-14 is being made in Asia (Where it seems all toys are made these days, now even LEGO!). Thus, he somehow got a hold of a few there, maybe through the back door of a factory :-O, or maybe given to him...? Just a guess.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,789
Yeah... Wonder how LEGO would feel about this if he got these from a back door?

My 2 seperate orders went through last year ok in the end, but the free minifigure only showed up on one order, a quick call to customer services quickly sorted it , although Im glad I noticed, as the 'corrected' one arrived a good week after the first order, and in a shipment all of it s own. As long as your not using a cashback site, phoning your order in might give you more peace of mind. :)

Anyone know if I place multiple orders if I will get multiple TC-14s? Same applies for Hulks later in May. Anyone been successful with this in the past?

Edit: Should have read the end first.

I'm only aiming for one TC-14, but I would like a few Hulks!

I'm more than happy that both promotions (TC-14& Hulk) also apply in Germany (all over Europe?)!!!

Just watched one of these go for £42 on ebay. Delivery in 5 days. Thing is the seller lives in the same small town as me! Might hunt them down.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,634
If they are giving them away free with a purchase in a week or so, why would you want to buy them at a such a big price? you could always turn around whatever SW set you bought to get it with for at least the cost and pocket the figure free. Just curious

^Because some people don't check the Brickset forum and don't know what kind of promotions LEGO are offering in a few weeks.

    I have a bit of a May 4th dilemma....

I purchased tickets for the midnight showing of The Avengers may 4th at 12:15 AM (the night of may 3rd). This means I won't be on a computer until at least a couple hours after the sale starts.

Am I screwing myself here? The only thing I really care about is grabbing a minifigure along w/ my imperial shuttle order (which will hopefully be somewhat discounted).

I also wouldn't turn down the DS if it was discounted enough (at least 20%) as well.

Is there even a small chance this could be the end of the DS or IS and they'll mark them down accordingly and once they're gone they're gone? <<<<This is my only fear. This is my 1st may 4 sale as an AFOL so I have no idea what to expect. Site delays etc.?

I feel as though I'm worrying for nothing and the only deals will be the minifigure and maybe some free shipping.. In which case I'd be pretty upset for missing the movie over.

This where a clone could come in handy.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Deadareus: If you' re in the UK or elsewhere in Europe i'd recommend buying the UCS Imperial shuttle from Amazon.it and saving about £65 on UK RRP if you're getting one anyway and it's not reduced. Then you'll have to find something else to buy for £50 to get a TC-14.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Deadareus: If the DS is reduced it'll be gone very quickly as it will most likely spell EOL for the set and anyone who's been putting off the purchase and the speculators will be jumping in on it. A few hours after the movie and it could all be gone. IS is just about old enough to go too. If TLG don't get rid of a few UCS sets soon, nigh on half the SW range will be UCS with R2 coming in and maybe the rumoured B-wing coming soon. Has the IS been a big seller? The UK RRP for this set is ridiculous next to the US RRP, which for me would make it a poor UK seller IMO. It is a stunning set, I put off purchase for so long until I found out through brickset it could be got from Amazon.it much cheaper.

Based on last year, I wouldn't be getting your hopes up on any great discounts. Enjoy the movie.

12am is subjective depending where you are, for example here in the US midnight for me is at 11pm, as there is a 1 hour time difference.

I'm not expecting a lot on sale or anything really worth it, especially if there is no free shipping involved (not sure if there is or not).
If there is free shipping and the Falcon is on sale, I may go ahead and get one or two, but I do not think 20% is enough to justify a DS or IS (Imperial Shuttle) IMO, even if there is free shipping.
What I hope is if you buy anything at LEGO over 75 you will get the free fig (like what occurred last year, if my memory serves me correctly)
I think I got a Maersk train and also got the ARF shadow trooper.

Thanks for all the input guys. Appreciated.

I expect to be on a computer by 2 AM EST as I live in eastern Canada which puts me a hour ahead.

I'll probably just wait and check the sale out after the movie and hope I haven't missed much. Thanks again.

@Monkeyhanger did you save $ over the US RRP by ordering IS from amazon.it
or just over the inflated UK RRP?

@madforlegos I would guess that any purchase over $75 will qualify even though it says star wars purchase. I have now gotten 3 shadow arf's during 3 different promos that said I had to spend a certain amount in star wars and didn't buy a single star wars item during those. But you never know I guess. Also, does anyone know if they enforce that rule for in store purchases?
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Deadareus: No savings over the US price from Amazon.it, but significant savings over the overinflated UK price. At the time of writing that first post I didn't know where you were from. As a Canadian, you wouldn't save anything over the US price - it is 197 Euros (about £165) through Amazon.it vs UK RRP of £246.
  • DeadareusDeadareus Member Posts: 264
    ^ Thanks for the info.

We deal with some inflated pricing up here as well despite our $ being basically at par with the US $ right now.

    DS = $399 US and $499 CAD
    IS = $259 US and $309 CAD

It's quite depressing to be honest.

Will we find out a few days before which deals/sale prices they will offer or will it only become apparent on the 4th??

Can you only use your VIP Card once for this?

Reason is i plan to go buy something, and then have my girlfriend go buy me something so I can have 2.

I have just received a postcard from Lego Uk detailing the UK promotion. Highlights are:

£50 orders qualify for free delivery regardless of what they are.
Any Lego Star Wars purchase gets you a UCS R2D2 poster and minibag tie fighter.
TC-14 comes with any spend of £50 of more that is Star Wars stuff. Purchse of giftcards do not count towards qualifying purchase.

All the above exclude backlog purchases, so only in stock purchases made on 4th and 5th, while stocks last.

It also says there will be some items of Star Wars stuff on sale, but doesn't divulge what they are.

The whole offer is per transaction, so multiple £50+ purchases will qualify as long as they are separate orders.

Legoland park shops and discovery centres are excluded, proper Lego shops and online purchases only.

^^ If I recall from last year, you can do multiple purchases and so get multiple promos (one promo per purchase meeting requirements). As for VIP points, it took a few days before they showed up in the account after placing the first order.

Like @emilewski said: VIP points are tallied for any purchase made with your VIP card present (or in the case online, that VIP account is associated with your account)
So you can make 100 transactions to only pay enough to get a TC-14 each time(and I'm sure there are those on this board that will just that :-) ) and get points for every transaction and get the fig every transaction... unless LEGO changed their rules (which I do not see anything as such in their advert)...

What I am hoping for it to be like the beginning of the sale last year that anything at LEGO.com totaling 75 will get a fig and free shipping. Cause for that I may get a few Maersk trains or get some Batman funhouses (well get some Funhouses on backorder anyway)
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Madforlego: There are people here that will make 100x £50/$75 transactions? Sometimes I underestimate the scale of some speculator/resellers means on here.

Saying that, I might end up making 3 eligible transactions. Can't think of anything else I might want at the right price should we get some decent reductions apart from the planned Y-Wing, UCS R2, and maybe a DS for my nephew if it looks to be EOL.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
100 transactions at $75 each is only $7500.

I say "only" because to a reseller, that is not a lot of money for inventory. To a hobbiest of course, it is a bunch of money.

Some of the resellers here spend hundreds of thouands of dollars on Lego...
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Legofantexas: It just seems such a collosal jump from keen hobbyist to big reseller that must have the kind of inventory and stock turnover to rival a toy shop. My wife moans about the space my "modest" collection takes up. Her eyes light up when I tell her how much certain sets have appreciated. I'm sure i'll come home one day to find it all ebayed!

Ah, if only I could afford to invest that much money in picking up that many sets and then sit on them for a couple years. I feel bad for all those people who bought an investment DS more than a year ago and are still waiting for it to EOL.

I've already bought the three SW sets I'm most interested in, outside of a MF. If there's no sale on that one, I'm probably going to have to pass on the promo this year. I'd rather save my cash to pick up a few hulks later in the month.
  • SupersympaSupersympa Member Posts: 534
    I agree with @legofantexas.
I read on a forum somewhere a reseller with a shop that complained because he could only purchase 99 items at a time only from shop at home...well...biz and hobby is different

Yes, I do understand that, which is why I put "only" in quotes, because I get that it is a lot of money to most people, and a lot of money for a "hobby".

For a business, it isn't really all that much money, but that is another view point.

My local Lego store tells me that they have a half-dozen resellers who spend tens of thousands of dollars on a regular basis there. I have no doubt there are resellers who spend millions (I can think of two off the top of my head who probably do)

Different world from a hobby, that's for sure! :)
