The Lego King Castle #7946 is available at Barnes and Nobles.com for $99.99. Don't know how long this will last considering it has been discontinued by LEGO already!
Cheers,
Sam

    thank you

Alright, I bought it. I don't remember seeing it before on their site unless I was just missing it. I'm done with buying Legos for the year.... seriously. My wife is going to kill me otherwise.
  • greekmickgreekmick Member Posts: 710
Shipping to UK $13 which seems reasonable. So is this set worth the £70 total.

    Thanks for the heads up...

Lucky you, I was just thinking about you actually when I was checking out, since you just asked about a 4 walled castle the other day. :)

Thanks! I just picked up a set.

Definitely! I'll be buying one. The RRP was actually £82 here, and it looks good for that from what I've seen of others copies.

Oh crap, I hope they don't start canceling orders (though I guess it wouldn't hurt since I've over spent myself on Legos).

^cross your fIngers it goes through. KC is a gem to go with Joust.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I won't be upset one way or the other. I don't own much castle stuff (just MVR and MMV to mod for LotR later), so if they cancel this, oh well and if not, I'm well on my way to making a Helm's Deep that doesn't look awful.

If you're importing to the UK from the US, don't forget about customs duty, which will possibly add on £15-20. I got mine off a French seller on Bricklink, came to just below the RRP.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
Dang I missed it too. I read @mathew mention he got one at BN.com on another thread and I thought it odd cause I hadn't seen them on there for a while. I checked after reading it and didn't find any. Then came back to the forum and checked the posts and say this thread. Guess it was just a small window..

Considering the set is already sold out, mods feel free to close this thread.
    Thanks,
    Sam

The previous thread was apparently closed, or I'd ask there, but did anyone else who seemingly got in on King's Castle from Barnes and Noble get their order cancelled?

I got in and had it cancelled yesterday. Was going to post in that thread but it was closed. Don't really see the point in closing threads unless theres an issue with it or its a personal "for sale" thread.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^^ Cancelled for me too. That was fine. I'm not a huge fan of the King's Castle, at least going by the pictures. Will instead save up for the Kingdom Joust. BTW it's now available on Amazon.

Mine was canceled as well... :(

Sorry everyone, I told the mods to close the thread because I figured since B&N was already sold out it was pointless to keep it open! Next time I won't make the same mistake. Sorry, about all the canceled orders as well, B&N shouldn't advertise for an item they don't have...

Follow-ups to shopping threads are useful and important, so: yes, a better approach would have been to change the title of the thread to reflect that it was expired without closing it, which I've now done.
  • brclark82brclark82 Member Posts: 217
Mine was cancelled as well, and I believe I was one of the first from here to order after it was announced in the other thread...dang

For what it's worth, I just received MVR from bn.com and it came in an official Lego cardboard shipping box. My guess is that they drop ship these and their inventory system probably isn't the best.

  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I ordered 2 MVR's. Should be here tomorrow. Just wish my castle had gone through too.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
^^ I'm pretty sure B&N doesn't drop ship these, they just often keep the items in the LEGO shipping box.

So what is the deal with the Kingdoms theme anyway? They only have Kingdom's Joust right now (and a magnet I think) Are they retiring the entire theme?

Yes, they are retiring the entire theme.

Yes, they are retiring the entire theme.
That is too bad, wonder what will replace it? I have to admit I didn't buy a lot of that theme, so it stands to reason many others were in the same boat... :-/
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^^ Are you sure about that? I was under impression that the Kingdoms / Castle theme was only being put on hold for LOTR. I doubt that they will completely discontinue it long term. Of course they've pretty much have done away with a Lego 'Space' theme in favor of Star Wars and *cough* City.

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
I would imagine Lord of the Rings is replacing it... Just like PotC replaced Pirates
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
@mathew - of course it will come back at some point, kids like castles, Lego has always had something "castley" for sale, it will just be LOTR for awhile...
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
IMHO, I think LOTR will just be a one to two wave theme. Everyone will get bored with it after a while and then all the sets will end up sitting in the clearance isles of Target/Walmart getting dusty.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^Though I personally think the LotR sets are, on average, very disappointing, I doubt these will wind up cluttering up the shelves like PotC, Cars, TS and PoP. I feel like these will be more in line with the Indiana Jones sets where they're reasonably popular, but still only last two years or so.
  • BrickSpyBrickSpy Member Posts: 24
I'm still holding out for a Wizard of Oz theme! ;-) hehe (actually that was quasi serious... okay very serious) LOL
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^^ I think the Indiana Jones sets were overall better designed. For example, compare Mines of Moria to Temple Escape. The LOTR sets just don't seem to properly capture the movies. Understandable of course, but I think it will somewhat hurt sales.

By the way it appears that bn.com is no longer a shopdiscover retailer.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^^Mines of Moria is actually my second favorite of the LotR sets (behind Weathertop) from the pictures. To me, it seems like it will be pretty easy to mod it into something special, unlike, for example, Helm's Deep... which I'm pretty sure I'll need at least four of before it even begins to look good.

Mine was cancelled too but this appeared to be available again for a few hours yesterday and I put in an order again.

Just received a shipment notification that its on its way.

Don't forget that the LEGO license includes both the LotR movies and the upcoming Hobbit movies. There will be one Hobbit movie released in December 2012 and one in December 2013, plus there is serious talk of a rerelease of the LotR films (possibly in 3D).

Given the upcoming movie schedule I think we could see LEGO ride the wave of this franchise for several years.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ exactly. LOTR, unless sales are completely abysmal and the contract can be terminated by LEGO, will be around at least two years.
2012 Wave one - summer, LOTR sets we've seen
2012 Wave two - holiday, Hobbit movie 1

figure a late 2013 wave for hobbit movie 2. Perhaps a summer wave of 2013 (more back-stock from LOTR likely) could be dependent on sales.

of course, if sales are good, than it's very easy to see it continuing into 2014 covering more of the LOTR backstock. I suppose it also depends on the license of course.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
So the big question is what happens to the Kingdoms / Castle line for the next couple of years? If the line is indeed cancelled or put on hold in favor of LOTR then we might be looking at some inflated resale prices on existing sets.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099

Strange. I wonder why everyone's order was cancelled then if the sets were available. Let us know when you receive it.

The 7946 castle arrived from BN last week.
These must be the last boxes BN has found lying around.

  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Well, Barnes & Noble evidently DID just sell a bunch of King's Castles. I ordered one last week, and it just showed up on my doorstep. Totally crushed, but it showed up! See photo:
