City trains scheduled to arrive soon

Following the appearance of a blurry image of 60336 Freight train in LEGO's instructions portal last week, it's now been added to the Instructions Plus app which has yielded better quality ones and a description of its contents.

It contains an electric locomotive, a decent amount of track and "3 awesome railway wagons", one which houses two containers of plants, fruit, veg and preserves, an open wagon loaded with an EV charging station, and a car carrying wagon loaded with two electric vehicles. It looks colourful but totally unrealistic as you'll see in the additional images after the break.

It's being reported that a passenger train and a station will also be released on June 1st: you wait years for a LEGO train set, then three come along at once!

Thanks to Promobricks for extracting the images.

Man Im a bit miffed that I missed out on the handful of times the current #60198 train was discounted to 169.99 USD (latest by iwoot apparently) so I had to cash in some points to drop the price at [email protected], but as much as I was not impressed much by it I wanted it for my train collection.
As for this train, if its over 199.99 its an over reach from the looks of things. Like I note on the main site article, it feels like it should be 160-170 USD...

The train fan in me wants to ignore this new train set.  The OCD that runs my brain will override that train fan.  *sighs*

I do like that the locomotive is more brickbuilt than similar shaped ones in the past that relied on giant specialty parts.

Yeah, that is a plus, but usually the passenger train is more saddled with the one-piece mold for the front of the locomotive.  I'm eager to see if this year's passenger train will follow that or maybe be more brick built.

There are so many curves, slopes, wedges, etc. that I just don't see a need for very large, special pieces on trains. More brick-built, please!

The other comment I made on the main site article was the want of a set like #2126 for a set of freight cars

I would love to see TLG offer simple sets which contain one piece of rolling stock.  Maybe one is a box car; maybe another is a tanker car; another a coil car; and so on.  That way one can buy the normal train set as a starter and then add more rolling stock, bit by bit.  The only options we have now are: (1) buy a bunch of the train sets (and maybe sell all the unwanted extra locomotives); (2) buy extra wagons on the secondary market; or (3) build more wagons ourselves - following Lego instructions; building  our own MOCs or from MOC plans created by others.

I would love an Xtra pack with key components such as wheels, couplings etc. It would be a nice shortcut to making your own rolling stock. Sadly it seems the Xtra line is done for now.
