It also lists every colour available for a particular part that have been released in sets.
Bricklink also has a list of which colours are in sets for each part: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3024&v=3&in=S This tells you it's appeared in 58 different colours.
The only problem with Brickset's catalogue - and the reason for the difference - is that because it's primarily taken from Lego, the older sets often aren't inventoried, and if an element has more than one ID, Brickset won't count them as one part. In this instance the transparent ones are a different ID, adding 8 parts to the Brickset total of 45 for part 3024.
