Can graphs/tables of collection factor in quantity of same sets instead of unique sets?

jpmeierjpmeier Member Posts: 24
Generating graphs and tables of my collection only seems to factor in number of unique sets (of a theme). Is there a way to set them to include quantity rather than unique?

For example, to make things easier, I have four different/unique sets under the "Dinosaurs" theme, but for two of them, I have an extra of each, so really, I have six altogether. Collection (for graphs/tables) doesn't account for extra quantities.

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to know how many total Star Wars sets I have in my collection (including extras/duplicates, for some I have many) but can only seem to find unique total.

If it comes to it, I suppose I could export the data and manipulate it that way, but hoping to avoid that if I can, haha. Thanks!

Check out the website {redacted}. You could import your Brickset collection. Provides another means of analyzing and managing your collection.

There is a link on the right hand side of the BS home page under “Help us to improve” for submitting ideas. That will presumably go direct to @Huw as opposed to hoping he reads it here :)

I didn't mean for this post to be a suggestion, but rather asking if the feature was there or not (in case I wasn't seeing it). But suggest it I shall!

Website is redacted(?), so not sure what you are referencing.

    A mod redacted it.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your original post. The wording made me think you had discovered an issue similar to one recently pointed out - that the member rankings by “sets owned” do not include duplicates. And I suspected immediately that you were right.

The redaction was almost certainly due to this rule:

Looks like naming the website violated the rule @Astrobricks mentioned. I had to look up what affiliate marketing meant. Lol!  Anyways, in addition to using Brickset to manage and analyze my collection, I use the other website as well which provides additional tools and analysis.

Is it that useful to know you have six Theme X sets, including duplicates? Especially if there were six sets in the theme you might think you have a complete theme when in reality you only know that if you count your unique sets.

^ I would look up the theme and it would show me which ones I don’t have.

I was asked by a friend how many Star Wars sets I have - unique is one thing, but total is another (coming off as more impressive and nicer to boast 😂) It's more out of curiosity.

It's crude, but I use a MS excel spreadsheet to track my collection.  As part of this is I have a column that where I enter the number 1 next to the first entry for each unique set number.  By adding up this column I can get the number of unique sets I have which is shown in a block at the bottom of the spreadsheet.  This could be expanded by having a column for each theme and putting a 1 in the appropriate column which could then be added up to give a number of sets in the collection from each theme.  A bit laboursome, but a similar system would give you the info you are after.

I've considered that as well, as it would be easier to manipulate and extrapolate the data for my collection.

Using other 'redacted' site, I have 200 Star wars sets, 156 of which are unique. Pretty sweet 😁

Don't forget you can export your collection as a CSV then analyse the data in Excel or similar.

For sure, I'll give that a try also and build on it from there.
