Sets Owned

Under the Sets Owned, why is only the number of different sets used for "The size of your sets collection...."?  Could there be two separate rankings, one showing for the number of different sets and the second for the total number of sets?

Good catch! I would say the rankings should just be by total number of sets owned, not number of unique sets.

I've noticed this a while ago and it never made sense since other categories, such as, parts collection, retail prices and minifigs collection included the number of sets owned in it's calculation.

Personally I don't understand why this is an issue. Some while ago I could have purchased, if I'd really wanted to, several hundred thousand of the foil comic polybag sets. There were only about 20 different ones in there, but there were many thousands of each of them. Each are obviously very small, containing at most around 50 pieces each.

Imagine if I had purchased them. With the current system, my unique sets would have increased by 20 and my ranking barely affected. With what you're proposing, my ranking would likely have risen straight to the top, but comparisons with others would have been wrong because, well, would you count hundreds of thousands of small polybag sets the same as normal sets?

^ Yes. I believe each CMF already counts the same as a normal set, does it not? So, people who collect CMFs already have a leg up in the sets ranking, compared to people like me who don’t collect (many of) them. Comparing any two collections is always going to be apples to oranges to some extent.

Rankings are 'just for fun' because there's no way to verify them. Every so often I have to clear out the collections of juvenile delinquents who joined yesterday and claim to have hundreds of each set just to get to the top of the chart. That's why I don't publish the top 10.
