I think several of the pics in the Brickset review show better angles than the box art does. I no longer hate the design but still find it underwhelming. Somehow the hoses over the wheels manage to make up for the fact that the wheels stick off the sides of the car completely with no wheel-wells. Might consider buying this if I need something to hit the free shipping threshold.

FBTB often border on the overly critical, I've seen their reviewers demolish perfectly good sets. On this occasion I have to agree with the sense of disappointment that surrounds this model. The bonnet just looks terrible. I think its a real shame that they didn't just copy the original cuussoo design. It feels like they compromised the original design in order to have three different iterations of the Delorean in the same set. The windscreen is also pretty awful.

The set does have some redeeming features: the rear of the car looks quite good, the mini-figures are impressive and with all the stickers we see in Lego sets nowadays it really is a delight to see so many printed parts. The
packaging is also very nice. I might get this at some point and try and modify it but it certainly isn't a day one purchase for me.

I think it's interesting that both here and on the home page a lot of people are saying they will still buy this despite its flaws, so potentially it will be a big seller. I kind of hope so because I can see a lot of scope for TLG to produce more BTTF sets to be launched coinciding with the 30th Anniversary - a town square/clock tower set, for example, would be very cool.

I'm not even a huge fan of the films (despite @legoboy's best efforts) but I think I will eventually pick this up model. The box and minifigs are enough to convince me - I've just got lots of other things higher on my priority list at the moment.

Just rang them - last on the shelf perhaps but they have more in stock, so off I go - never been so excited for a day 1 release especially of such a maligned set!

Apparently there were people queuing for it when they opened.

The design, build and overall lack of attention to detail (sheild, indeed) were maligned. The set itself, well, it's BTTF, which itself can overcome a load of problems because it's, well, awesome.

Btw, they should have included an Eric Stoltz head that you can swap on the Marty minifig. :)

For the people viewing this to purchase on Ebay or from other sellers: If you live in the UK go to you Lego Store today and purchase it or if not wait a couple of days and don't let these people rip you off (Unless if it is sold out in Lego Stores or online.)
  • CrowkillersCrowkillers Member Posts: 757
There have been quite a few of these that have sold with Buy-it-now prices of $199.99 and over... Amazing...
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,710
    @Crowkillers, I don't see why people can't wait a couple of days!!

I know... It amazes me... What is the release date for the United States..?

Anyone who's just bought one: does it still have the spelling mistake on the flux capacitor brick?

@Astericked, Try visiting the Lego Store, I'm in UK and I just picked up mine from the Lego Store...it might be different in the US!!

    Good Luck!!

    @paul_merton, I'm afraid YES!!

I have contacted Lego via e-mail and asked if they will reprint the piece with the correct spelling and give it out as a replacement part for the people who request for it!!

The review at Eurobricks is very good, and they have a side-by-side comparison with the original Cuusoo model. Seeing them both together, I personally think the official Lego version looks much better - more sporty and less Volvo-like:

Anything in the manual / on the box to indicate it's a 20000 limited ?

I cant believe a multi-billion dollar company cant proofread. Hey, TLG: I have a contract here. What? No, no, it's all correct. Move along, nothing to see here.

That's a great picture. I actually really like the official model, with the exception of the hood. Given the scale, piece count and 3 build variations I think they did a good job.

Got mine from Manchester, tucked away, no signage or anything. No interest from the others in the store.

@roxio, No there is no number on the box to indicate it is limited, I haven't opened it yet as I bought it for my 17th Birthday on August 2nd, yeah I wanted to get this the day it comes out!!
  • Tevans333Tevans333 Member Posts: 152
Doesn't look like it's on sale in the US today. I just called the Troy, MI store when they opened and they do not have it. Maybe other US stores will be more lucky.

Ditto. Except I've just got back from Brighton with mine, hardly anyone instore and couldn't see it out on the shelves, or any signage etc to say they had it. Girl asked if I was after anything specifically so I replied " 1 deloreon please " and she said they had sold loads already. I was there at about 11ish I guess.

Quick look at the LR display and I was outta there.

Would be nice if this was hugely successful to follow it up with a VW camper scale version. Much like they released the Sydney Opera Hosue as a small architecture house followed by a large scale version. Just imagine a 1,500 piece Delorean!!

So we have no idea when it's going to come out in the U.S.

Guess we'll find out later today with SDCC.

LEGO already has a VW Beetle scale DeLorean. It just never made it into production, much the same as the Mustang and the DB5.

Picked up mine earlier from work and I have built it and will review it later when I get back from training for Brick Fanatics. I feel reviews have been over critical.

^ the instruction booklet for the Beetle had 'prototype' models of them at the back.

I'm curious how this piece would look on the front of the hood. Perhaps with a 2x4 plate underneath. It will make the hood look more "complete" and take away the stepped look. I know DeLorean had a straight hood (not curved down) but could be a quick little MOD that may look decent.

Plenty on the shelves in Stratford over lunch. The chap working their said they had been 'flying' off the shelves all morning so very popular already but plenty of stock to cover. For me it looks great and easily the biggest Lego smile of the year so far :)

On a tangent he also said there was a big release of new stock planned on the 27th July he mentioned that almost all themes would be getting something new.

I never knew they made those prototypes! I had to download the instructions to take a look. I would love to get my hands on all of them, but with newer SNOT design standards.

The LEGO Store in Saarbrücken, Germany (or Sarrebruck, France) still has a dozen on the shelves (I didn't ask how many more they had in stock). Plus one on display.
    • Price: €39.99. That's right, not 35, 40. Par for the course for 401 parts and a third-party IP (dead as it might be), but quite a rip-off if you remember that the US only pays €27, and that with the exception of the minifigs and the printed pieces, you are pretty much guaranteed to already have every single part.
    • The only silver parts that I could spot were a couple 1×2 grilles. Everything else is bley.
    • Complete with the SHEILD typo, both on the box and on the actual model.
    • The stuff knew nothing of that typo, but they started talking about the misprinted date on the dashboard. I had to tell them how it was intentional and what it meant.
    • Sadly, and unlike pretty much every single LEGO set I own (350 and counting), this one actually doesn't look better in real life than in the box art. The front looks every bit as horrible as in the pictures you have seen, and I'm afraid the back actually looks worse. So if you can live with what you have seen so far, you can live with the set. If you absolutely hated the images, you will absolutely hate the real thing.
Me, I am one of those undisciplined folks who don't like this set but will buy it nonetheless. Heck, probably two of it, in fact — one with the typo and one without (I sure hope there'll be a second wave without!). But I certainly am not buying it for 40 Euro on day one, not even with my VIP points.

^ Don't forget that the US price doesn't include sales tax.

It should be pretty easy to just tear out the hood area and replace it with a tiled out hood on a hinge to give it the right angle. I'm itching to see what I can come up with when I get a hold of one of these.
