(*) For the Limited Edition Pick-a-Brick Model, here's what it says:

"Visit the LEGO Store each month to get building instructions for an exclusive model using Pick-a-Brick elements that can be purchased in a small Pick-a-Brick cup. Quantities are limited and offer is good only while supplies last. Ask a Brick Specialist for details."

For April it appears you can build a rabbit (I think that's what it is, it's not a very good design to be honest). I'm not sure if the elements which go into the rabbit are going to be stocked in the PaB wall, and you pick up the instructions and then fill up your cup with the inventory listed, or if they are going to have pre-filled cup with all the parts needed. Maybe both (I could see some stores pre-filling for people).

So...Nashville's grand opening is the end of April? I guess I will be there... I hope they have a really good PaB section.

Any word on the Vancouver LEGO Store Grand Opening?
  • sidersddsidersdd USAMember Posts: 2,432
    ^ It only says:
New LEGO Stores are Opening Soon!
    (*) Oakbridge Centre, Vancouver, BC
    (*) Mayfair, Wauwatosa, WI
(*) The Woodlands Mall, Woodlands, TX (aka LFT's House)
(*) Oak Park Mall, Overland Park, KS
    (*) Jersey Gardens, Elizabeth, NJ
    (*) Alderwood, Lynwood, WA

No details on when they open, or when their Grand Opening event is though.

Okay, thanks! It is scheduled to open April 15th, but no confirmation of that yet. Thanks!

Hmmm. that's disappointing. I had heard the Nashville Lego store was opening at the end of March.
  • sidersddsidersdd USAMember Posts: 2,432
^ It may open then, but the "grand opening event" is April 27-29.

In general, retail stores have a "soft" opening, when they first open the doors to take our money. Then, a few weeks later, there is a "grand opening," when the staff has a little experience and at least some of the kinks have been worked out. That's what happened with the Phoenix Lego Store a couple years ago, and probably explains the different dates people are seeing for store openings.
  • starfire2starfire2 Phoenix AZMember Posts: 1,329
@tdhbr : are you from Phoenix? I live in Phoenix.
  • tdhbrtdhbr Member Posts: 188
Yep - NW Valley, not far from Arrowhead Mall Lego Store. There was discussion in "Introduce Yourself" recently where several area people made themselves known.
  • starfire2starfire2 Phoenix AZMember Posts: 1,329
Sorry must have missed that discussion or it slipped my mind.
  • romdamromdam Member Posts: 136
When do they give out the freebies? Is it the "grand opening"?
  • JenniJenni JapanMember Posts: 1,390

    You coming down??? Definitely.

Jenni will be there too, I'm sure. I have to travel from time to time, and hope I don't have some work event that conflicts!

My wife and I just communicated about April 27-29 and I found out there's a Boy Scout event on the Apr. 28th. I may have to show up on April 27th and see how the day goes on the 28th. Murphy's Law is alive and well... :-(

Yes, we may come down. My wife of all people suggested it (I think she just wants to get away).

Hopefully your Maersk container ship is finding its way to you. Jenni is probably the nicest person I've ever met. Your ship is in good hands.

If I recall correctly they give away the exclusive minifigs on the Saturday morning of the grand opening events. Not sure if you were hoping to get those or not. Another option is helping out with the grand opening event. Our LUG helped build the models which are displayed in the store, and helped out the master builder with "recycling" the bricks which go into big model being constructed, and with orchestrating the public. All volunteers received the exclusive minifigs, as well as 30% off at the store. It sounds like the Tennesse Valley Lego Train Club (http://sites.google.com/site/tvbricks/) is helping out with the event, so you might contact them if you are interested in volunteering. It was quite fun, and I know we could have used more volunteers.
  • JenniJenni JapanMember Posts: 1,390
^ TVLTC doesn't know anything about the grand opening they just built the models and they're long done. The guy LEGO asked to restart TennLUG didn't know there was a grand opening. My avenues for trying to volunteer have dried up till the store opens.

The ship has made it to Tennessee intact, or rather, in pieces in an intact box :). Mine has made it to Hayley, it's just the next step I have to figure out.

Looking forward to the grand opening for many reasons can't believe you have a boy scout event that day @farmer_john! What time is it? Maybe you can make it in the morning.

Reminder, tomorrow and Wednesday, VIP members can get a large PaB cup for the price of a small. Dunno if you can get multiples. Probably YMMV.

I read there is a limit of five cups at that price.

That would be great if my local Lego store had anything worth getting in their PAB wall.

yeah, same problem. and that which they do have that is worth getting, I've already grabbed a bunch of with the holiday boxes. oh well.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
Same here. I'll probably pass by and fill a couple of cups just for the heck of it, but nothing big. I may grab a few more Alien Conquest sets, if they have any left though. They are CHEAP right now.
  • cynthilinacynthilina Member Posts: 188

I called one of the MA stores -- limit is 5 cups! Yay! Good news is that NELUG has its April meeting on Apr 11 starting at the Natick MA store ... whoo hoo!

@Russell844 Sorry - just saw your post on this limit ... but yes, I confirmed with a store.
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 USAMember Posts: 1,434
@coolpix - our store had plenty on the shelf and also some in the back. Altogether, I've picked up these AC sets:

    22 Alien Stirkers
    13 Alien Defenders
    7 Tripod Invaders
    1 UFO Abduction
    3 Jet Copters
    1 Alien Mothership
    2 Earth Defense HQ

Now, I just to find something to do with them. I have quite the army now.

Just got back from my store and can confirm the 5 cup limit was in effect there as well.
  • jadedancjadedanc USAMember Posts: 1,303
They never mentioned a limit at my store. But since I only got 4 anyway, guess they weren't worried. Also picked up a TB (been wanting that one) :)
  • herekittykittyherekittykitty Member Posts: 122
I got 4, but I heard a limit of 5 mentioned. My store was running out of cups at noon today, seems like poor planning? They were extending the refill discount to people who were willing to just dump their cups into a bag or box and return the cups.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
@Bosstone100 Wow! You've got everything then! I went there last Saturday and all they had was UFO Abduction, Tripod Invaders, AC Battlepack and Mothership. All of them at 50% off. I've grabbed one of each, just for myself. Still missing on the HQ, Strikers and Defenders. The manager told me they had nothing held in the back as far as AC, so I guess you have a better relationship with them then I do, or you bought what they had left! The Jetcopter I'll get at Target, as they have a promotion this week and it's going for $34.99. My son has a HQ, but I'd like to have one for myself. It's a great set!

Want to spare some Alien Strikers and Alien Defenders? :) Let me know!

Just to keep on topic, though, went to the store tonight and grab 4 cups from the PaB. (I was tired and gave up on the 5th one). Actually, got 2 cups from the PaB, the other two the manager went to the back and filled with Friends elements from the recently dismantled bars. I'll post pictures as soon as I get the chance to take pictures of those, but I believe I've got a bunch of nice friends-colors parts.

Alien Conquest was back at full price, which made me regret not having at least a couple more of the Tripod at $10 last week...
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 USAMember Posts: 1,434
@coolpix - sorry about the confusion. I meant altogether that's what I picked up for AC but not necessarily from the current Lego price reductions. They were definitely out of the HQ and the alien strikers when I was there last week. In fact, the only sets I bought were the ten alien defenders.

When AC first came out, I went and bought all of the sets in about a month. It's the first theme I just had to get them all since I briefly came out of my dark ages in 1999 when Star Wars came out. When the Xmas sales started, I found 4-5 Tripods, which is probably my favorite set of them all. The extra strikers and defenders I bought were mostly for army building purposes since they were half price. Two minifigs in the striker at $2.48 a set, which is $1.25 a fig. A much better deal than the battle packs. I still may pick up a couple of those but we'll see. That civilian really kills it for me.

I also forgot that I have 5 of the jet packs and 2 of the walkers. My wife will probably kill me if I don't do something with these. Maybe it's a good excuse to buy modulars so the aliens have something to conquer and destroy.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357

Haha! I thought the same thing when buying the AC sets. I'd love to setup a layout that looks like "XCOM/UFO" (the strategy computer game), using modulars and other city/creator buildings. I am out to build an army too, but I've let too much time pass by and now it's really hard to find the smaller sets. I'll probably buy them at regular price on TRU.com or Bricklink, so I will not miss on these.

^ I think the actual model they built was a larger version of the one shown in the calendar. Basically this:
    image

Same design, just different scale. Regardless, I'd love to have those instructions as well.

^ Oh, I just noticed the smaller one is sitting on the left wrist of the larger one in that image.

Now if just the Kai minifig were sitting on the wrist of the smaller one...

Wow, didn't see this. But yes the smaller version on the wrist! Any body? Love to build this!

Being at a couple of these events, the smaller scaled models are pretty much all 2x4 bricks.
By the way that's my amigo bmwlego in the pic. Overseer of ILUGNY.

@legoDad when building them were they using some form of instructions?
  • bmwlegobmwlego Long Island, New YorkMember Posts: 817
^^ Hey, that's me! I LUG NY helped out with this build as legoDAD mentioned. We were able to build this model twice during the weekend. We were given instructions to assemble the model plus preassembled, glued and cut plates that were the base of each level. On these plates were painted dots to let us know where to attach the builds that the public worked on. This type of build was a LOT easier than the older style builds like R2, Buzz and Yoda.
