Pirate Theme Postcards (c. 1989)

I was rummaging through some of my old documents and I found some old LEGO postcards that I remember getting 23 years ago (though I don't recall how I got them). When I found them, I was so thrilled, that I had to share them with you all. I scanned them and they still are not the best quality. Maybe someone knows a trick in PhotoShop to touch up the scans to look better. I am simply shocked at how well they have kept all these years. Forgetting I had them certainly helps. I hope you all enjoy them. I need to find some non-acidic document protectors for these.

I just finished some research and was reminded where I got them. They were exclusive to members of the LEGO Builder's Club that year. I am sure a lot of people received them, but not sure how many are still circulating out there. I am sure many just got trashed over time. Regardless, they are amazingly cool. I think I may need to frame them for my LEGO room.

Look at how crisp and clean those vintage sales are! Mine are so dirty looking and saggy... wish I could get them to look like new again.

Beatiful stuff! I really like the old pirate theme, and I'm trying to buy the whole line. But there's so much great stuff available right now that I rarely can afford things that are on my back log...

I think that these pictures were also used in some of the catalogues and promotional material at the time. The arrival of pirates coincided with the peak of my younger self's Lego obsession (different to what it is today!) and I couldn't get enough of them!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing. Pirates is the only theme, other than City, that I have a tiny collection of. Childhood memories :)

Pirates was one of the first themes that I ever collected as well. Still have a lot of them as well. Caribbean Clipper, Forbidden Island are the two that come to mind immediately. Built them not long ago just to make sure I still had all the parts still. I hope they bring back the classic Pirates line after POTC goes away.

Wow. Not bad. What did you do to clear some of the "scanned postcard" look?

For the marks / creases I mainly used clone stamp, sharpening it was also able to reduce the blur a bit, of course then you highlight the 'streak' type effect - I think that comes from scanning glossy paper, I'm not sure if there's any way to get rid of that.
