TheBigGuy: Hello from The Big Guy in New Zealand

I have made a handful of posts since I joined the forum but haven't really introduced myself. I am an AFOL from New Zealand. I mainly only collect Star Wars sets now but I have a fairly large collection of city Lego too. I stopped collecting that a little while ago when I made a deal with the devil, I mean, my wife (sorry honey!) that I'd stop buying City sets if I could get the Imperial Flagship and Brickbeard's Bounty. Best deal I ever made, I reckon! Anyway, feel free to say hi and I'll see you around on the boards.

Hey, I'm from NZ too. Good to hear from you. I'm yet to get the Bounty, been keeping my eye on Trademe. I have the Flagship though, looking forward to cracking that open one day soon. Do you collect other Pirate sets?

    Welcome to the forum !
Rugby is my other passion/hobby/sport and All blacks a great team...except for the last final...since I am french ...you will understand :)

@ StuBoy Good to see another Kiwi here! I didn't get any of the other Pirate sets, they didn't really interest me. Same goes for the PotC sets. I did get a heap of Pirate and Soldier minifigures on Trade Me to crew both of my ships though, since they seemed quite under-crewed.

@ Supersympa I understand completely! I am huge rugby fan too and I enjoyed the World Cup Final. Well, once it was over I did. One of the most tense games I've ever seen, I could hardly watch the last 10 minutes or so.

^Haha! Likewise - I was certain we were gonna give away a penalty in that last 10mins :)

That was very tense! but to be honest, on the whole tournament AB was a better team...now we look forward England 2015!

I agree, the ABs where the best team, so them winning was justice. I am going to be unabashedly cheering for France in 2015 though. They deserve to win one having gone so close so many times.

Hi, I'd just like to gatecrash this thread - I too am in NZ and been gathering lego for many years since I was (probably still am) a kid - now I have children of my own I have a better excuse to get my hands on more :)

I tried - albeit halfheartedly - to stick to one theme :) I currently go after Star Wars and Castle. But in amongst the collection is a Galaxy Explorer (my first big set from my 4th birthday) and other classic space, Indiana Jones, Pirates, City and a few other sets I thought were rather nice looking when money was burning a hole in my pocket. Oh, not to forget some of the minifigs.

I am originally from the UK moving here in 2004, I get some of my stuff from ebay and rely on my folks at home to ship amazon orders.

Hey kiwis!! I am also from nz but live in Florida - there happens to be a legoland near by and toys r us, walmart and target make the toy warehouse look like a small shack.
I am actually heading back to nz for a few days, do the shops have any older sets still available - sorry for sounding ignorant I full well know nz is up to american standards with releases and selection (maybe even more I miss v alot) but anyway thought I would try make the most of coming home for a short time

    Hi guys.

@Wyleenz Any sets in particular that you have in mind?
  • WyleenzWyleenz Member Posts: 9
Any 2009 city sets really, I also saw on trade me old sets such as robbers hideout selling for thirty dollars, I didn't see the close of the auction so I don't know the sold price but it looks pretty good

@Wyleenz I can't recall seeing any of those in any of the shops for a while, to be honest. Trade Me would probably be your best bet.
  • StuBoyStuBoy Member Posts: 623
Yeah, Trademe might be the best option. I've just checked Brickset to see what came out in 2009, and I havn't seen any of those sets in the large stores for a while. You may have some luck in some of the smaller retailers like Toy Planet, they may have the odd set still hanging around, but they usually never have anything on sale.
