Eternals official set images

Following their early appearance in a LEGO catalogue during December, official images of the upcoming Eternals product range have been published by Yahoo Entertainment!

Unfortunately, their resolution is fairly low, but these images are clearer than the existing catalogue photos and prices have now been confirmed.

Four sets are included, ranging in size from the small 76145 Eternals' Aerial Assault to the spectacular 76156 Rise of the Domo, which contains 1040 pieces.

View these sets and their associated information after the break...

Got some pretty neat robots, a pretty neat giant robot, and a giant space dorito. Kind of an interesting series of builds.

Though I do wonder if these will meet the same fate as the Shang-Chi sets should issues occur with the movie's release. I'm already seeing those LEGO sets on the clearance.

I'm now puzzled, as I thought I already ordered these from the catalog last year...

That RoS tie fighter is clearly a Dorito.  This set is more of a deep dish pizza slice.

Having watched the trailer I'm finding it really hard to drum up any enthusiasm for this one.

Man, I could go for a Chicago-style deep dish pizza.

Good thing you're not from Chicago.  I don't think UNOs is really considered an authentic Chicago-style pizza.

You can just make a lasagna or buy a nice frozen one if that is what you want to eat. No need to pretend it's pizza.

I think I'm having a hard time getting psyched because the trailer didn't have much to latch onto, or set it apart from other superheroes.

Shang-Chi I can get what they're going for at a glance. It's a superhero movie mixed with kung-fu movies. That sounds fun! The Eternals are.. a group of people in fancy armor with super powers. At a glance, there's not much to note with them. And there's a giant robot called a Celestial. I don't know what a Celestial is, so that's kinda hard for me to get interested in.

I'm worried this is going to finally be an Inhumans-level failure for the film MCU.

One would think after 20+ movies, one of them wouldn't work... but who knows.

Yeah I always thought Age of Ultron wasn’t all that great, except some small sections e.g. Ulysses Klaue & The Hulkbuster. Plus the ‘08 Incredible Hulk movie, if we’re talking not so great MCU movies, though still ok/passable.

One thing the '08 Hulk did really well which was rather unique at the time was they spent less than five minutes on origin story. Opening credits rolled and a short montage later Bruce Banner was Hulkified and they could then spend the entire movie doing a Hulk movie and not wasting our time with 2/3s of the movie giving him powers. I agree it wasn't a great film overall but it worked well enough and was 1000 times better than the absolute garbage the previous attempt at a Hulk movie was.

Dark World made $650M.  I'm not referring to the relative quality of the movie, I'm referring to a potential commercial failure.

Frankly, Shang Chi might suffer that fate if people don't go to the theaters next week...

I don't know, nor do I care what this Eternals movie is all about; but all I know is I want deep dish pizza now...preferably from Giordano's.

Giordano’s is good, but I prefer Lou Malnati’s just north of the river…

I agree it doesn’t look good, although I don’t know if comparing pre-Covid film grosses with today’s circumstances is completely fair.  I think it’s entirely possible that if we didn’t have Covid related restrictions and people scared of going to movie theaters that even a so-so MCU film could make a decent amount of money…

oooh, excellent!  I will try them next time I'm in Chicagoland - otherwise I'm unfamiliar with the area.  Until recently, I didn't know Giordano's was a chain!  I thought the only one was by Midway airport.

I think both Eternals and Shang-Chi are going to be moderate box office failures. Black Widow was just the beginning. They needed to do something to keep people on the Marvel train after Endgame and completely unknown, unrelated C-heroes aren't going to do the trick. We're not invested in the series anymore, so we're not going to watch something like Captain Marvel just because it's there, they have to earn our interest now. But, hey, I think Marvel diminishing and going into the west will be a good thing. The Age of supermen is over. The time of something original and fresh has come.

Box Office results do not equate to original or fresh.  We are in a global pandemic which shouldn’t be discounted.

I think you are right, but mainly because of the pandemic and subsequent streaming service push. If covid hadn't happened I think Marvel would continue to draw big just because its Marvel. The new Spider-Man looks like it will be huge and should definitely right the ship.

I think they will blame the pandemic and streaming habits, but I think the films' lack of appeal will be the main reason. Bond, Dune and Spidey for instance will probably do fine by pandemic standards. I look forwards to potential post-premiere sets for No Way Home with spoilery characters seen/heard/glimpsed in the trailer :D

The pandemic has hit all cinema really hard this year. Speaking from a UK perspective takings here are half what they were in 2019. And that is all for all films. It looks like it is a similar tale from the rest of the world with a patch work of lockdowns effecting takings. The only real way to judge will be once things return to normal. But with a lot of Marvel big hitters like X-men and Fantastic four to come I would not bank on them going away anytime soon.

Iron Man, Captain America etc were considered to be c list characters. But they managed to do something interesting with them. I think it depends what they chose to do with this new wave of films and how that ties together as to if there is a big drop off in interest.

GotG was much, much further down the 'list', and those were runaway successes.

I think that Marvel did all they could with the original Avengers.  I'm happy there are new characters - but getting those characters to resonate is very important.

I haven't seen any of those films apart from the very first one, but I'll venture a guess they're neither. What I'd love to see are some new and exciting blockbusters that ride into town saving all the cinemas and filling the coffers of some other studios than Disney.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
That’s unrealistic.  Not the great successful film but that Disney wouldn’t somehow have been involved via Lucasfilm, Marvel, Bluesky, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, Disney Animation, etc.

It didn’t do amazingly mainly due to the pandemic but it was a big original blockbuster and I would recommend it to anyone. Also Warner Bros so not Disney.

Tenet was interesting for sure, but it doesn't make an ounce of sense.  And probably wasn't the right movie to test the populace's appetite for going to a theater during some phase of a global pandemic.

I'm sure the folks over at Disney are sweating about their cost structures for future MCU movies, Star Wars movies and their animation movies.  I doubt Shang Chi is going to match Black Widow.

    The Eternals ever less-so.

Disney’s marketing strategy suggests Shang-Chi is a bit of a sacrificial lamb. They’re creating hype around Eternals and particularly Spider-Man when they should in theory be promoting the film they’re just about to release next week. I’ve seen almost no marketing about Shang-Chi so far, but I’m still interested to see Marvel’s take on a martial arts inspired movie. It might even be the first movie to get me going to the cinema in person after such a long time!

Black Widow was the first movie I saw back in a theater in over a year and a half... and Shang-Chi will probably be # 2. There are very few movies (even pre-pandemic) that I ever felt worth seeing in a theater, but MCU flicks have always been in that category for me.

There will be a retrospective on 2021 films in 2022 where the fallout of 'profit' versus 'not profit' will be had, and there has got to be some measure of how much of a delay hurts the brand long term versus releasing it during a pandemic hurts initial BO.

For a massive franchise like Marvel, I'm willing to guess that Disney cares more about the onward path and trajectory of the entire MCMultiverse and associated merch rather than an individual film's profits.

For the record, I intended to stop seeing every MCU film in cinemas after Endgame (and just wait until streaming for most), but we shall see - I loved the vibe of BW, and the trailers for Eternals, SC and Spidey3 all appeal to me.

The real test is whether I buy any Lego sets from these films. BW I bought the heli (but really only wanted the SDCC exclusive), Shang-Chi I have the polybag and want nothing else, and Eternals is a massive ask if I want the entire team. And I still haven't seen the Black Knight in a set. Which is a bunch of arse.
