New Lego Fan/Collector of...minifigs ....and trans pieces...so far lol

Hi! Hailing from Washington DC, 40= years old - new to collecting after lucky minifig finds that I've decided to hold on to.
Originally I was going through my college freshman and high school seniors' old Lego, but who am I kidding I've had so much fun organizing and identifying sets/pieces I have to admit to it being more than a passing thing.

When you download pdfs for building MOCs from Rebrickable you kinda have to accept that the addiction has hit full force lol.

Thanks for having me!

If you open an account on Brickset.com, you can input your sets and loose minifigs and parts.  There are tons of collection management tools and lots of ways to quantify what you have.

Oh nice! Yes I've done this already. I do like it but it isn't designed for us minifig-only collectors, I was checking to see if there were any other recommendations. Its very robust though - so Im glad to see it seems to be the standard for tracking lego collections.

What are folks doing for insurance purposes and the like, where you need a total value of your collection? I find that's the only thing Im missing from brickset....maybe there is a way to show this that I've missed?

There is a way to show the valuation but it is limited to Brickset having data for the sets you own.
If you click on the "My sets" icon on the main page to bring up the sub menu and the click on "overview of you collection" it will take you to this page.

Which gives a lot of detail but also opens up a whole lot more menu options which you can play with. For what you require with valuations, the "collection valuation" option is a good start as it gives RRP prices and current replacement valuations and any growth in value.

Thanks! This works for the sets but what if you dont own the sets? I havent been tracking the sets only the minifigs. I guess I could go back and add the set for the minifig but that seems cumbersome as I may only have 1 minifig out of the set....hmm

If you search the set number it pulls up a page that includes pictures, parts list, and minifigs among other things.

Then you click the Minifigs tab and select how many you own …

You can also just type the name or the part identification number for the minifigure in the search bar, and it will pull up the fig. Then you can add it the same way.

Now if you don’t know what set the minifigure belongs to, then you can post the minifig’s picture in the part identification thread and people will help you out there…
