BrickLink Designer Program

I wondered the same. It's quite conceivable that none of these bigger, more expensive sets will get enough pre-orders to make the cut which would I think prompt a rethink.
It will be interesting if not a single set hits the 3,000 mark, but I'm sure at least a couple will. Limiting it to 1 set per household probably wouldn't help matters, but it allows more people to buy the sets they want, so that's a plus.

I would like the modular Lego store if it’s front doors weren’t so ridiculously overscaled.

Hypothesis:  The BrickLink Designer Program is a subtle encouragement for Ideas entrants to NOT submit models based on licenses.  To get this second chance at money, designers need to submit non-licensed models.  Heck, I feel motivated to submit my Idea which would probably not get officially produced but might get made at BrickLink.

I agree, I think the ridiculous kneejerk reaction to drop it back to 1 per household off the back of a limited availability Castle (castles are popular, who knew eh??), plus the higher prices, might hurt the chances this time round of everything getting to 10k.

It wouldn't be so silly to relax that limit after a couple of days, if sets are still available.

Or maybe just an incentive to submit all those Modular ideas that you know won't be approved but might go through to BDP. But still keep on submitting licensed ideas.

I imagine the primary motive of submitting is still to get a set of the subject made, rather than profiting from it. Coming up with decent designs takes time, and promoting them even longer, for little chance of reward. There are better ways to make money.

I love the design of the Venetian Houses, but I’m not sure I “$290” love them for what they are.

It looks great, but the entire thing seems to be ridiculously overscaled.

High ceilinged spaces are all the rage right now, so I don’t mind the height. It would be more cool if it had a mezzanine though :)

For Tuesday, we may be able to use the shortcut from last time.  All we need are the updated URLs.  I forget how I found them all without waiting on BrickLink.  Are those the official/unofficial set numbers?

Log in to Lego.com, then click these URLs to add the items directly to your cart on Lego.com.  It skips BrickLink entirely.
    Castle - https://www.lego.com/en-us/cart?product=910001
    Bionicle - https://www.lego.com/en-us/cart?product=910007
    Boat - https://www.lego.com/en-us/cart?product=910010

Those are the old links, reposted as an example.  If Lego and BrickLink use the same system, the phase 2 links might look similar.  The 9100xx numbers are the official set numbers.  Once we have those for phase 2, try putting them in the URLs above and they might add the product to your Lego.com cart without needing to get slowed down by BrickLink.

I’ll be interested to see how fast things progress tomorrow- I was on the ball when the castle set was going on sale, but (from reading comments here) it seems demand is lower for round 2… I’ll just be a spectator this time…

I've all but decided that I'm going to grab the aquarium.
  • FireFox31FireFox31 Member Posts: 258
Yes, more votes for the aquarium! I hope it's lower price encourages people to order it. I've been waiting for that set for years.

I should know better, but I went and re-perused the projects ... I don't think I had grasped how large the Seasons in Time set was!  At 18 inches tall, it would be a pretty impressive display piece (and only 6-7 inches shorter than the new UCS AT-AT!).  Plus, I'm a fan of Brent Waller's designs... decisions, decisions...

Yeah, I think most of us massively underestimated the scale of that set. I only realized it when I saw the price and then started looking really closely at the vignettes. There are a LOT of pieces in each of those, which means the base for them has to be a decent size itself. It's a beautiful set.

Here we go - the countdown begins. I think Aquarium, and either Windmill or Lego Store for me. 3 minutes to go and I'm still not sure!!

Got the Lego Store and Bowling Alley. Now to see if they make it to the end.

Is anyone else having troubles logging into bricklink? Super annoying. Or - does anyone have the direct product codes (thanks @maniac !)

Thank you! I can see the link for 910023, but it cannot be added to the basket for me. I can add other sets, not sure what is the issue here.

No joy on the Lego House so pivoted to the Calendar. Not totally sure why, but I wanted something!

I'm somewhat surprised at the early order of the results.

You should be able to search for the sets normally on shop.lego.com but the Venetian Houses doesnt show up for some reason.

In the UK atleast trying to order the Venetian Houses doesnt work, not sure if other countries also have this problem. I suspect it would be further ahead if it didnt have this issue

Okay, so after quite a bit of refreshing, eventually I got what I wanted. PHEW! Thanks everyone.

Lego store has overtaken the Windmill, and Venetian Houses now in 4th... this is more fun than going to the Kentucky Derby...  :-)

Had the same problem. Try order as a guest could work, you lose the VIP points though.

Looks like the Aquarium has overtaken Seasons.  LEGO Modular looks like it's just a couple more sets from passing the finish line first.  I'm going to cry if the Aquarium doesn't make it again. D:

EDIT: Ha, while I was typing this, the LEGO store got funded :P
  • bricktuarybricktuary Member Posts: 986
So it looks like a straight fight between Aquarium (£50) and Calendar (£180) for the last spot.

I don't get the interest in the Lego Store.  It looks like a basic blocky build to me with few rare parts.  Should be fairly simple to replicate.  I like the Venetian Houses but the interiors are boring.  The Calendar is a work of art but I don't really care for a few of the vignettes.  I think I'm going to wait a while to see if anything else hits the funded mark before deciding.
Agreed- I really wanted to like the Lego Store but it was not up to modular standards-  I may have a go at MOCing my own sometime...

It seems like the fact that they're modular buildings really helped the LEGO store, the bowling alley and the Venetian houses to get the votes they need.
  • wiggywiggy Member Posts: 351
I'm hoping the Aquarium gets 5th place, but also quite like the Seasons in Time Calendar. They're currently neck and neck.
It's a shame the Ruined House doesn't look like it'll make it, I like the design, but the price is quite high.

Maybe so, although the LEGO Store is well below Modular Standard IMHO and I'm surprised it's so popular. I slapped in orders for the Venetian Houses and Bowling Alley but gave the LEGO Store a very wide berth.

I'm really sorry the Ruined House won't make it - really interesting build.

I supported the aquarium. I gave a good look at the Lego store but there are a couple of details that make me irrationally annoyed. Most notably the set-back placement of the 1x2 bricks with technic pins.

I'm still waffling on supporting Seasons in Time, but as it stands right now, it's between that and the Aquarium for the 5th spot, so it probably won't matter anyway.
