Diner and modular construction set also getting ready to ship. Current me is really having to pay the bills for the exuberance of past me... still, these should keep me busy for quite a while.

It's unusual for crowdfunding to charge so late in the game.  They usually take your money right away and use it for the project.  It's causing issues to a lot of people that they're being charged so late and at an uncontrollable date.

I had pennies to my name a few weeks ago because everything went wrong simultaneously with my salary and my bank, so it was quite stressful knowing that the Lego sets might have been charged during that time...  I hope they learn from this and actually charge people right away next time.
  • bricktuarybricktuary Member Posts: 987
So, I've just fired up the old (and I do mean old!) ipad and the instructions for the sets aren't in the Lego Builder app yet. It's my preferred way to do things, especially for these Bricklink sets where the instructions are definitely not as polished as they have been for others, being able to play with the model in 3D and zoom in etc has been a godsend for things like the Castle In The Forest.

Although I have just noticed that Studgate Train Station also doesn't have instructions in the app. Hopefully this isn't a new thing to keep it 'exclusive' and they'll turn up in the app at the same time as the actual sets land on the doorstep.

This was the first time I used "pay by enclosed invoice" instead of via CC or Debit; quite useful for orders which take as long as these to arrive/be charged (just checked, ordering was May last year). Isn't that option available to others (/in other countries)?

Looks like some people in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain are posting in last 6-8 hours that they have received Winter Chalet sets so hopefully those of you waiting will have yours in hand soon and shortly after those us anxiously awaiting may see instructions posted so we can start to build a set. 🤞😁

I have my Wanted List already created (but empty) on BL!
  • Lo1sJessLo1sJess Member Posts: 709
@Switchfoot55 I have a good bit of inventory to sort through for us once we can get a parts list together.  Some obvious parts I have to the side like some sand green and log tiles.

Must confess I didn’t fully disassemble my winter village, didn’t fully complete it either.  Guess I just was too taken with it being my first go so am ready for extra early WV chalet building.

In Belgium here, my account got charged €269,99 but since I’ve ordered both the modular construction site and the train station, I guess only the first one will be arriving shortly. I hope the delivery guy doesn’t just dump those sets on my doorstep, like they did with my A-frame, cause it got stolen. LEGO cosumer service was kind enough to send me another one, but I’m afraid they won’t be able to help if the same happens to the BL designer sets…

Just got a mail the chalet is on its way!

@wardm, before I was convinced DHL was bad, now I know DPD is worse. Terrible.

Reminds me I have to complain to CS about the state #10312 arrived in last week!

Yay, #910004 arrived today. Box seemed alright, but after opening:

Sorry if I may seem nitpicky, but I’ve launched a complaint at S@H, as my #10312 arrived in a comparable state.
especially for these sets this is a bit of a thing I’d say (and no, I will never resell this set, but still…).

Now awaiting #910008, which I actually may build first after finishing #10312 soon 🙂

I had a weird $2.97 temp charge from S@H that never went through last week.  I wonder if they were checking my credit card to see if it was still active before they charge it full.

Both my orders still say backordered though.

@Lo1sJess, where did you find the part list?

I don't have access to most of my bricks as of right now, but can start sorting and searching in a few weeks!

EDIT: Looks like the parts list is on the Brickset homepage at least. I'll start there!

I thought this was an interesting rule for the BDP Series 1:

The 2 x 2 turntable base must not be used as a decoration. It must always be paired with the turntable top.

Does anyone know why this might be a rule? I know these have become popular in making windows. Is this usage some sort of "illegal" technique?
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,281
Weird. #7674 has seven bases and no tops... Both versions of Taj Mahal, #10189 and #10256, each has 208 bases and no tops...
Is the piece only in Stud.io as an assembled part, base + top?
It's a little tricky to dismantle the two, but I don't see why that should prevent using just the bottom as decoration, indeed it would seem to be a great example of NPU.
PAB at the store has had them as separate parts, and I'm sure there wasn't the exact same number of each part. Even if there was, customers could take unequal numbers.
Sorry, I don't get it, either!

Maybe it's a manufacturing thing?  If you only use the two in tandem, then I could see it simplifying logistics around the two pieces.  That's about all I can think of though.  Unless maybe they feel like having the two pieces together strengthens the whole assembly, and somehow it's too easy to stress the middle of the base piece if the turntable isn't in?  Definitely an interesting rule to see.

It has just been announced how the BDP series 1 voting round will work.
You get 1 vote per project and you can change your vote as needed during the voting round.

The wording was edited to read:

"Users will get 1 vote per model. You can change your vote if you want."

So you can vote for all models once? Weird. My logic would say you'd be allowed a maximum amount of votes over all models on offer. Let's see how it turns out.

50's Diner and Observatory have shipped....
Modular Building Site too (although DPD still doesn't display knowing its Tracking, but that generally is more rule than exception, even for delivered parcels...).

    Designer Program [BrickLink] My submissions!

Well, just went through all 32 pages of submissions - you can actually vote for all submissions and indicate "not for me", "like it" or "love it". Think I voted "like it" or "love it" for about 30 submissions; mostly for additions to Castle, Pirates and my (modular) City (not so much Modulars themselves, most of em didn't really impress me). Also found a great WV-submission!

Also found yours @Modeltrainman  - loved them of course :) - the best of luck for you!

@Modeltrainman, congrats on the entries! Votes cast!

Overall, some really nice models that were submitted. I wish the buttons were a little easier to actually select as several took me multiple clicks to get my vote to stay put.

Sounds like it'll be a long time until we actually get to support the final models, however?

Yes, the designs are voted on after this, by the team.  Then 5 are produced next year. The winners have to meet with LEGO, online.

Initially it is what I expected; that is 80% of them should not have gotten approved.

I hadn't read the rules for submissions until this morning. Seemed very clear that the sets couldn't be any IP, including existing/past LEGO IPs. There were an awful lot of Space, Castle, and a little Pirate themed sets. I guess LEGO doesn't specifically own the IP of "Space," so maybe that's the gray area?

I did like the handful of "book nook" creations as I feel this is a growing trend in other model-building areas. LEGO would make a great addition to that line up.
