Well, it took a week, but I got my confirmation email for the Observatory! Sigh of relief.

Fingers crossed @Brainslugged got his too.

Oddly, the email has come through with a bunch of GWP's attached. I guess because it took so long to confirm it?
I didn't see an email, but I just got some sort of notification on my phone that I'd been credited £179.99. I can't find any sign of having spent that or been credited it, but I assumed it was the Observatory finally being cancelled.

However, upon checking my order history I had three surprises...

1 - My order has in fact gone through.
2 - The two current GWPs are included.
3 - The price has been changed to £245.99!!!!! WTF!!!! It was seeing the price at £179.99 that got me to go for it at the last moment.

Are the GWP their way to make up for the price mistake?  I'm surprised they didn't just send an email asking those who bought it for the lower price if they'd like to keep the order at the correct price or cancel the order.
  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,278
^ I don't even have any email confirmation, let alone one saying "hey - FYI we're gonna charge you an extra £65."

^^ unless there's something else in stock right now on the same order those GWP are highly unlikely to happen as they won't ship out until next year with the set and the GWP will have evaporated from stock in the meantime.

mine is still showing as backordered at the £179.99 price so not sure if they are working through them still or if there's some sort of cut off they've decided for who does/doesn't...  but I agree it's bad form to arbitrarily change the price you're charged after you ordered.

"Bad form"? I'd think it would be illegal to change the price after you order: the order is an agreement, isn't it?

Mine was changed just yesterday.  Dang.  Order history had shown the lesser price. No GWP for me though.

Still waiting for my confirmation emails for the Observatory and the Construction Site, but when I called LEGO Customer Service they said my orders were confirmed, so fingers crossed.
  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,278
OK... so things are even more confusing. My order total says £245.99, but if I click on the order I see the following. Basically the GWPs and the Observatory at £245.99. However, maybe I didn't scroll far enough before, but the order total there is £179.99. So maybe they'll be honouring the lower price after all? Good old Lego IT!

I'd specifically paid for this one with a debit card that wasn't expiring till 2026. However, I just got a text from Barclays saying they've cancelled my card and are sending out a new one due to finding an "issue" with it. It could be a coincidence, but it also feels like it could have something to do with the £179.99 bank notification I received yesterday (I think for a credit) but there's no sign of it anywhere in my account. I'd be interested if any other Barclays bankers have has a similar text.

    This is from their terms:

What if the website shows a wrong price? We do our best to ensure that all prices on our website are accurate. However, errors can sometimes occur. If we discover an error in the price of products you have ordered, we will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you or you do not reconfirm the order, we will treat the order as cancelled.

The order is not actually paid for until they dispatch it, and that is the point the contract is made. The pre-authorisation does not count as a contract.

The tricky point is if they are unable to contact you, they can just cancel it. So they can give your mobile phone one ring and if you don't answer it, they can cancel.

When I view the 'My Orders' tab on LEGO.com all BrickLink Designer Program orders still show as 'Backordered' and the Observatory is still showing as £179.99, so no price adjustment for me....yet.

The latest sets have been added to the Brickset database, so if you ordered some, you can already add it to your collection!

In the ever evolving story of this order, my two freebies have now been cancelled, and my order total has now increased to £245.99. The £30 of VAT is based on the £179.99 price though!

Does that apply to only UK orders or worldwide? Since as far as I'm aware only the UK had the pricing error, but I could be mistaken.

That's a great move by Lego. It was a definite buy for me at £180, but not at £246. Although muddying the waters was knowing it would most likely be worth way more than £246 thr moment it was released.

They aren’t in my collection until they are in my grubby little fists :)
I flag them as "ordered".  Once they arrive, I mark it as owned.  This lets me easily review what I might have ordered and hasn't come in yet...like those Bricklink Designer Program sets or anything that's backordered.

@Mr_Hobbles  Pricing error was in U.S. also. At least for me anyway. But price is still showing 249 in order history.  Lots of time to correct though!

The Lego Store's doors don't look too bad after all.  With minifigs next to them, they're tall indeed, but my last Lego store also had incredibly tall glass doors like this.  The Pick A Brick wall might require a ladder, but otherwise the set looks nice.

Just noticed I have a pending charge for the Sheriff's Safe and checked my LEGO account and it shows as in warehouse!  I ordered this after they opened round 1 back up.  Looks like those orders should be shipping soon.

@KungFuKenny Thanks for sharing! I've ordered both of those and also the Venetian Houses. By the time the third Bricklink round was up, I was kind of regretting ordering the mill, but seeing this picture, it makes me excited again!

Interesting, my bad! I missed that.

My order is still sitting at $319, so hopefully it'll be adjusted down to $249 before shipping? If so then that's a great surprise.

@Brainslugged Odd! My order still shows the two GWP's, but they're also still In Progress. I wonder if they'll ever be shipped or stay in limbo. :) (Observatory is still Backordered).

Seeing the pictures of the bowling alley makes me regret not ordering it. It really is scaled well and full of accurate details. I spent enough on the BLDP so this one has to get skipped.

I went for the Fishing Boat (round one) Bowling Alley (R2) and Observatory (R3) and I must admit that it's only the bowling alley I'm really relieved I ordered.

I need to remember to order some extra typewriter keys so I can rename "Dave's" bowling alley to my son's name instead.

Does anyone have confirmation on receiving these last sets yet?  They initially said they would ship by like March 2023, but my order says ship by 6/15/2022, which is today.  I just want a sense on when I will be charged.
  • wardmwardm Member Posts: 889
@PapaBear which ones do you mean? The round three will definitely only be charged next year when they get sent to you! :)
  • eMJeeNLeMJeeNL Member Posts: 822
I was told by CS round two will ship in August, three will defo be 2023.
  • PapaBearPapaBear Member Posts: 665
@wardm Okay, thank you.  That is what I thought, but my order online says it will ship by the current day everyday.

The article also says instructions are out. I haven't looked at them yet, but if past BLDP sets are any indication, I expect to hear complaints about instruction errors or poor build choices any day now.

I can't find my orders on the Bricklink site? Are they still listed on the Lego S@H site?

@Venunder They should be listed in your order history on the lego.com website!

Look back at Brickset's March 2021 article about BLDP.  It's interesting to see how much the project changed between then and completion.  What I miss most was the potential for non-funded sets to be sold as building instructions. Do you think instructions were required before the sets were offered for funding?  If so, those instructions exist and could be sold.  Seems like an easy way for more money.

It might be a reputation thing. LEGO give away electronic versions of their instructions and the funded BDP sets. It looks a bit odd if they start charging for some plus there is the issue of pricing - would you pay $20 for example for electronic instructions for a big set. Yet if they don't charge, there is nothing in it for the designers.

My just received email said mine are all back-ordered.  All five.  I’m in Ohio, and @Russell844 & @rockethead26 are out west, so don’t know if location is a factor.

I just checked my emails but no sign of any round 2 (Bowling Alley) updates. I did find an email from last week saying that round 3 (Observatory) is gonna ship by March 6th 2023. I guess that could just be a placeholder.

It was a good reminder that I needed to update my card details because I've had (yet another) new card since ordering these. I put in a quick call to CS and they were able to update their system.
