They’ll probably charge the proper amount closer to the time. I imagine maybe they’ll send an email beforehand.
Anybody who ends up with an extra or unwanted Chalet should let us all know so we can arrange to get it to Switchfoot.
Or maybe the parts won't be too bad to collect anyway? There are definitely some details that can probably be left out to save a little cash and not affect the overall look much.
I'm sure there are other more rare parts. I just hope the 1x6 Sand Green bricks don't jump too much. I might try to snag a handful of those sooner than later before the instructions go live.
*edit: seconds after I posted this: it's sold out*
CLEARLY the demand is there, not just for the ones that 'made it' but definitely for the others too, they could definitely have sold 10,000 of the 6th choice Steam Powered Science, easily.
Obviously the fixed costs of doing this mean it's marginal for Lego to do these sorts of batches. Why wouldn't they want more orders???
But that's LEGO these days.
I know I've gotten a ton of the telescope piece in Sand Green from the PAB wall so I may consider changing the main building color to something else & using the Sand Green as accents for the outside railings and such. Also will likely use the newish Candelabra & Candlesticks with flames on the dining tables.
Fingers crossed we just got in!
How many sets can I pre-order?
Pre-orders are limited to one copy per household.
And in case anyone hasn't seen, the bricklink page says "Funded sets will ship in spring 2023".
With these, there is a good chance someone else will take them off your hands though. Maybe. Shrug...
Looking at the ones I was really the most interested it I thought it likely that I already own most of the parts needed to build them so I was able to talk myself out of ordering anything. I will probably try to beef up my supply of some parts by making some orders & seeing what I can find in the PAB walls. And in the case of the Winter Chalet I will probably go with another main color instead of the Sand Green for the upper walls. The Observatory will be a bit harder for things like the computer display panels but there are some available to purchase that could suffice. I liked the Station but it wasn't one I even considered purchasing so I don't know if I'll try to find the parts I would need for it. The other two winners I have no interest in.
I will be glad to pay a small premium.
To get these estimates, I viewed the BLDP page at 300% zoom, took a screen shot of each sales progress bar, dropped them in to Photoshop, cropped to determine the bar's total width (1389 pixels on my display), cropped to determine the bar's filled width, then divided filled/total and multiplied by 10,000. Since one pixel represents 7.2 sets, these estimates are accurate to within 7 sets. For calibration, using this method to measuring the number of pixels up to but not including the 3,000 set cut off line estimates 3,009 sets. Thus, I did not include the 10,000 set cut off line.
There might be something in the page display code which shows exactly how many sets were sold in order to fill the progress bar. I didn't look for that.
Round 1:
Castle in the Forest - 10,000
Great Fishing Boat - 10,000
Kakapo - 7,732
Pursuit of Flight - 7,653
Sheriff's Safe - 9,222
Round 2:
Clockwork Aquarium - 8,157
Modular Lego Store - 10,000
Mountain Windmill - 8,798
Retro Bowling Alley - 8,963
Venetian Houses - 10,000
Round 3:
1950's Diner - 10,000
Modular Construction Site - 10,000
Mountain View Observatory - 10,000
Studgate Train Station - 10,000
Winter Chalet - 10,000
Interesting idea. A more accurate way to get the numbers would be to inspect dom using your browser, and locate the percentage assigned to the progress bar.
The Retro Bowling Alley for example has 89.4% assigned. So we can more accurately assume 8,940-ish sets sold. If I was writing this, I would just divide, no rounding. So between 8,940 and 8,949 sets sold.
I also think Castle in the Forest sold up to 20,000 units because of the bug.
Round 1:
Castle in the Forest - 10,000 - actually may be up to 20,000-ish
Great Fishing Boat - 10,000
Kakapo - 7,713
Pursuit of Flight - 7,640
Sheriff's Safe - 9,202
Round 2:
Clockwork Aquarium - 8,142
Modular Lego Store - 10,000
Mountain Windmill - 8,776
Retro Bowling Alley - 8,940
Venetian Houses - 10,000
Round 3:
1950's Diner - 10,000
Modular Construction Site - 10,000
Mountain View Observatory - 10,000
Studgate Train Station - 10,000
Winter Chalet - 10,000
Fingers crossed @Brainslugged got his too.
Oddly, the email has come through with a bunch of GWP's attached. I guess because it took so long to confirm it?
