Interestingly the Observatory is showing as £179.99 on the UK site - that's a huge discount from the initially quoted price....

I wonder if I'll be asked to pay the balance when the error(?) is noticed?

Same!  And if the first 2 minutes are relevant, the space one really is bombing.  I'm surprised, I expected that one to be somewhat more in the race, at least in the very beginning.

At least we're not seeing instant sold-outs like for the Castle of round 1.  It gives people so many minutes to order... :P

Glad to see it's getting the recognition it deserves! 

I've had to make the tough decision to not move forward with getting the Chalet (at least directly from BL). It'll likely need to be something I source parts for later down the line. 

Building a house is no joke when it comes to budgeting (at least for my family and I). Wisdom needed to prevail in this case. 


*Train Station just was funded and the Diner has to be a few minutes behind that.

Chalet, Train Station, and 1950's Diner are officially funded. Observatory is very close. Looks like the construction site will probably make it in the 5th spot.

Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to order for the two GWP since that loophole wasn't opened for us...

And I wonder what Lego will do with some of the other submissions.  The Steam Science is a very niche product yet got a ton of preorders in only a few minutes.  It shows a lot of interest.

And on the contrary, Space might be dead for a few more years seeing how this Classic-inspired set barely made waves came the time for preorders...

So glad that we'll all get the Observatory (which I ordered).  Sad that an unfinished Modular Construction Site beat out the vast playability of the Exploratorium / Steam Powered Science.  Perhaps that proves you can sell anything with "Modular" in the name.

Now, do I buy a Chalet even though I'm not super interested in it?

I don't remember exactly when they released the Round 1 instructions, but it was around the time they first started shipping the sets to people in Europe. The Round 2 ones still aren't available yet, and the site says to check back in Q3 2022.

Hmmm. I am absolutely the target market for a Classic Space-inspired set but the honest truth is that I just didn't like the design. At all.... If the ship had, for instance, looked anything like Pete Reid's joyous Neo-Classic Space version of LL928 then it would have been the first set I preordered. As it is, the ship doesn't really look like a ship, and I just didn't understand the concept at all. Where did all the 10,000 who voted for the design when it was on LEGO Ideas go, incidentally?

There's still a big market for nostalgia, but it has to be done right....

I fully agree.  I hope this lack of support doesn't send a signal to TLG that "we don't want Space".  Let's hope the fantastic 2022 City Space sets sell well to inspire them to make more.

Here's hoping Lego will do another round of voting to bring back a non-approved 10k club set (like for the ISS), bringing the Exploratium / Steam Powered Science to market.

Don't buy the Chalet - let someone who really wants it get one of the 10,000 sets, and feel warm and fuzzy inside for being a good person!

I was hoping for Space Troopers, but I guess this saves me $200 to spend on the real old-school Classic Space sets, or something.  I think Space Troopers would have done a lot better if the renders had shown off the features better.  But they were too small, too blurred with simulated camera optical effects, and too statically posed to really show off all the cool features of the set.  The description mentioned rotating engines - why didn't the renders show them?  Why weren't there any decent close-up renders of the various modules attached and detached, or of the interior of the cockpit?  The price-per-part ratio was just fine.  The physical size of the set was just fine.  It was loaded with play features and it looked kind of goofy, but that's ok.  But it was a real hard sell because the pictures were just bad.

The Big Four in-house genre themes are Space, Castle, Pirates, and Bionicle.  Pirates didn't come up in the Bricklink Designer Program because of Barracuda Bay and the Creator pirate ship in 2020, so Pirates fans were already satisfied.  Castle fans came out for Castle in the Forest.  But Bionicle and Space fans didn't really back their horses once the starting gun went off.  Castle for the win!

I'm happy to say that I ordered the Train Station and the Modular Construction Site. My predictions came through, though I thought that it would be either the Brickwest Studios or the Observatory as the fifth set. I was afraid for the train station given the price and all the complaining, so I was amazed that it came in second and I'm very surprised the construction site came in fifth. 
I almost got persuaded by the hype of the chalet to order one, but I don't think it'll fit in my winter village, so I'm proud to say I was able to contain myself... :) My wallet will hurt enough with the Train Station and Construction Site (and also the LEGO Store, Mill and Venetian Houses from the second round)
What did everyone else order?

Just looking at the US links posted above. There is a pri e differential between the Construction site and the Observatory on the US site (on the UK site they are both priced at circa £250). So my guess is that the price on the bricklink page for the Observatory is incorrect and the price at the Lego site is correct.

Lego have updated the observatory to £246. Yet another balls up. No doubt the designers that missed out will not be pleased that they were beaten to the threshold by big sets priced way under what they should have been,  that were then updated after they hit the threshold.

So it looks to me like the Chalet will be fairly easy to replicate with bricks I already own once they publish the instructions.  Observatory other than the specialized tiles should be pretty easy too.  Do we know if the tiles will be stickered or printed?  I guess substitutions could be made for some of them.  Too many other official sets coming up that I want rather than committing to purchasing these.

I had to step away for an appointment (ironically, to send a down payment wire transfer for my construction loan......) and came back to see the Chalet was gone. 

Glad to see the Winter Village pull is so strong among the AFOL community!

Honestly, I'm a bit shocked with the Train Station 3/4ths funded and at $400 USD. Good on them I guess. 

I also saw the Diner jumped up in the order. Likely people who logged on late, saw the 5 sets were already determined, and just ordered the cheapest (that, or resellers?). 

Congrats to everyone who was able to snag a set this round!

The Observatory now charges the correct $319 when added to the Lego.com cart in the USA.  I completed my order 10 minutes after launch and was only charged $250.  How do you think they'll resolve this?  I would rather pay the $70 then have my order cancelled.
