Received shipping confirmation. Also saw a banner for $20 rebate on the confirmation which redirects to a site with the following phone number: 1-877-816-2228

    Any idea what this is?

    Don't do it! It's a scam number!!!

^ I think it is some kind of marketing for "Great Fun!" where you sign up for a membership. I didn't call...

My boxes arrived in good shape. The two Fire Brigades were from batch 39R1, so I'll probably return them, though they do weigh the same 6 lbs 4 oz that other FB batch sets weigh.

  • andystarandystar Member Posts: 275
Boxes all arrived in good condition, FB from batch 50R1 so no issues there. Got the 8043 Excavator but it appears the box has had the original seals broken then re-sealed with what appears to be official lego tape. Is this typical of this set as LEGO had to change the actuators? Anyone else see this on the Excavator?
  • vader34mtvader34mt Member Posts: 88
@MCNwakeboard...did u check your FBs closely?

mine has stickers labeled 39R1 on one side, and on the other side has 51R1 overlying the 39R1 stickers...it seems lego had corrected t
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard Member Posts: 320
Mine just has 39R1 on one side and a blank tape on the other side.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Went by a few B&M's and picked up several Excavators, Fun Houses (for a quick flip) and even 4 Burrows ;) Had to leave a few Excavators as the boxes were not great -- just a little dented.

Saw lots of MVR, , City Transportation (tons), Apple Tree Houses, Big Technic, an old City Crane, Round-Ups' and others . . .
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 369
The Burrow? Are you being sarcastic? Aren't those in the 20% markup range?

    You're money, of course...
  • BanditBandit Member Posts: 889
^ they're already selling for over RRP, I'm pretty sure even buying at retail will be worth it in the next year.

Tonight, I stopped a father from buying a Quidditch Match for $38. Its just so appalling what TRU is doing. I feel this may be the beginning of the end for them.

Good for you. I feel bad for unsuspecting parents who buy over-priced LEGO from TRU. With the online market getting more and more popular, I think it could be the end of ALL retail businesses.

    ^^ +1 to Yellowcastle's karma.

I stopped in to my TRU B&M for the first time in about a month. The only set I saw which was MSRP was the Public Transport set. They had three of them, but the boxes were all beat up and seals were taped over. I left with only BOGO'ing two CMF S6 figs (Statue of Liberty and Robot).
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
I too left with only a few CMF...( Surgeon, Roman, Genie, 3x Robot).
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
    @DavidBrickley

Burrows came out to $57.75 ea. Selling on Ebay $65 to $75. Not selling them now either.

And I meant Public Transportation. There were a lot of them at every store.

I couldn't believe all the parents in there this week going crazy over the BOGO. They are on their phones calling people and asking what else they should get and so on. Amazing . . .

@Yellowcastle I hear ya. Usually I don't say anything but there was this one kid with his dad standing next to me for a long time looking at the Hero Factory stuff (think its Hero anyway). They were about to buy the Witch Doctor for $40 so I told him to head over to Walmart and get it for $15 to $21. The dad looked at me and said "their pretty expensive here?". I said "yeah, its mostly all marked up pretty good". But then as I'm heading up front to purchase my stuff I see him in another Lego isle loading up on all the over priced stuff his son wanted. Shrugs . . .
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ I found two of those witch doctor sets at Wal-Mart for $7.

@gmpirate - people have been trained for "deals"... Look at Groupon, getting you to buy stuff you never really wanted... Woot! is another good example...

    *raises hand* - disclaimer, I'm a woot junkie... :)

If people are told something is "on sale", then it "must be".
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
When does the B2G1 FREE deal happen?
  • turtle1173turtle1173 Member Posts: 230
Remember towards the end of last year? There was a BOGO sale every week! Now it's been close to 2 months since there's been one. I guess everyone is having withdrawl's, LOL.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
    ^ Not the BOGO, the Buy2Get1 . . .

I thought it happens the first quarter of the year, but maybe the second . . .
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
Perhaps Easter? You can check the Brickset news archive if you want to see what was done in previous years.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
ahhhhhh, two months and I continue to learn here :)

    thank you sir!
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
    I didn't buy anything this BOGO 50%.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Looks like the B2G1 sales happened Jan.1 and Sep.18 last year. The September one is typical, because that's when the giraffe's birthday is.

^ And they're trying to turn inventory before Bricktober.

I've been thinking about the TRU issue and wonder if a petition or email effort might help TRU reduce their markups as well draw attention to what most parents just don't realize. I'm just spitballing here, though.

Hardly think so -- especially after watching all the parents go after those sets this week.

But then again, I really don't have a problem with their general prices. More power to them. It's the way they manipulate sales and rewards that I take issue with.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,788
    Yeah, their shipping too..
Normally their shipping is fine, BUT the two unimogs I got one side of the shipping box was bashed in so bad that it crushed the side of the actual unimog box and the other had broken seals on it right out of the box!!!
SO I guess I will need to return them.

What is the best way to return a set bought electronically from TRU? Can you return them at a B&M and get credit back? I know the Unimogs are not much in TRU B&M stores and would have like to get the BOGO discount still, but if I just have to flat return them and wait for the next BOGO I guess that is what I may have to do...
    Any thoughts?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ There are no issues returning to the store. I've received credit back to my card but others have indicated that they were only offered store credit.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,788

Ok,thanks! To possibly complicate matters I did not use a credit card, I paid with bill me later, so I'm not sure if a B&M store can refund, Im guessing it would be a credit...
Not sure, only one way to find out I guess :-)
  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
I think TRU marks up their toys because they know the parents that go there generally don't pay attention to regular prices. I usually don't shop there because of this, but if it allows them to do more BOGOs then I don't mind much. If most of those parents were told they were paying more there, I'm sure they would still continue to shop there. People get into shopping habits and generally do not like to be told what to do.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
@madforlegos The Unimogs have been at every B&M I've been to.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
They've been at none of the stores I've been to (3).

Finally opened one of the Red Cargo Trains I bought in this BOGO, and was happy to see they packaged the instructions and stickers in the cardboard backed bag. Woohoo! Thank you TLG. Every time I received crumpled up stickers in these sets I called and ordered (free) replacement stickers, and suggested every time that they use the cardboard backed bags instead of tossing the sticker sheets in the box and hoping for the best.

Winter Post Office is back in stock on TRU.com...it's $59.99 which is already a markdown from lego's 69.99 (which is just odd)

this week, you get $10 off a $50+ purchase, so the cost is $49.99, which is 28.5% off the lego list price!

only catch is, you need to purchase a total of $75 to get free shipping, and other lego deals are tough to come by...but I thought it was worth noting
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
    Don't think its EOL'ing this year, however . . .
  • vader34mtvader34mt Member Posts: 88
    edited February 2012
EOL clearance to maximize resell profit isn't the only reason to buy a set, some people like to buy them to build them, or for kids to play with them, etc

and if everyone waits til EOL to buy sets, a lot of people will miss out

but thats beside the point, just figured i'd throw it out there...as I've benefitted from others mentioning when they notice these things
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@vader34mt I think you did well to mention it. I already have it but if it was on my wanted list I'd have been very glad to have found out.
  • Chang405Chang405 Member Posts: 88
My local Lego shop (Mall of America, MN) still have 20 of these on clearance for $51 but they just can't seem to get rid of them.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ Some of my local stores always seem to have them on clearance as well . . .
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Amazon now has the Winter Post Office for $59.99 too. I guess to compete with TRU. Course, from Amazon you can't get the $10 off, but you have to buy $75 from TRU to get free ship, so you have to buy something else and for me I have to pay sales tax. So, Amazon is the better deal for me if just getting the one set. Also, it looks like $59.99 is a new low price on that set at Amazon, which is a bit amazing. One would think it had been that low before.

I just received a survey from TRU. Did anyone else?
I let them know I am not happy with not being able to order the limit it states on the product page. I don't know if it will help. Maybe if enough people complain. jmo

^ My real job is web application development. I would think TRU knows this is a problem on their website. Just a matter of how high a priority it is to fix it. And, how difficult. Course, it always helps to let them know. I would imagine TRU does view the results of their survey. It would be foolish not to, but again, who knows how high a priority it is to fix things customers mention.

^^ Also, as a follow up to the Winter Post Office on Amazon. It's now down to $54.00

While I will not be reporting to them the unhappiness of a limit, I will ask that they get their stories straight between the item page and Cart..
I tire of seeing a 'limit 2' in the item page only to try to get two and then the shopping cart telling me there is a limit of one.
If it IS a limit of one then also put that on the item page as well, do not put a 'limit 2' down if that is not true.

Also Both Unimogs I got were horribly treated.
One had a shipping box literally kicked in on one end that trashed the box, and the contents may not have fared better, and the other had broken seals (to be fair, Im not sure if this occurred at the warehouse or if it is just due to the weight of the box)
Either way it appears I will need to return these for credit/refund as I do not see any stores around me with these in stock at the moment. I have been tryin got wait but I do not want to wait too long.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ I hardly think TRU considers it a "problem". I'm sure they are quite aware of the "problem".
