^ Same here, one set, one box. They also seem to use a standard box size which they probably buy in huge bulk and get cheap. But, it does seem like a waste. A separate box per set keeps one from crushing the other. I got a shuttle expedition with a corner crushed. Also, it is not as bad as Christmas when UPS and FedEx really man handle boxes. I order 8 sets. 4 came yesterday. 1 today, although it was ordered with another item. Thought that a bit odd. Last year I got 2 modulars during the BOGO and one was beat up badly. It even had a fist sized hole in the side. Just took it back to the store and returned it, no questions asked. The employees at my TRU are pretty nice. It is the TRU rules, etc. that are tough to deal with sometimes. Like when a woman was trying to return some stuff without a receipt. What a show.

Getting store credit does not make sense either. Why can't they just refund the transaction like Lego sore? What am I going to do with store credit when 90% off their stuff is overpriced? For those does not have problem with their shipment , good for you guys, but I've lost my faith in this company and don't wan to stress out every time I order from TRU and have to worry about if my precious will come in one piece this time.

^ The credit cannot be used online?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Yes, it can be, it is just a store gift card basically...

The problem is what if you buy sets at the store with credit that have been already been bought and swapped by thieves?
I really hate to get anything for in store credit any longer from TRU. I just got a 20% off coupon for one non sale item and another 10 dollar off coupon from their mailer, but Im not sure I would want to buy anything from a TRU B&M anymore, especially if it is a sought after set, which appears more likely to be swapped by thieves, maybe Ill pick up some of the smaller city sets I am missing still.

I got my boxes from TRU, I have yet to open the shipping boxes but a few boxes look like they were kicked like soccer balls, but with the fact that the super huge box allows for the item to shift around so they should be ok I hope, but really it is better than what WalMart did with a bigger set I bought online.. basically slap a shipping label ON the LEGO box and shipped it out... mercifully the box made it to me relatively unscathed, but it made TRU shipping look amazing.......

Also, does anyone know if the Pet Shop was EVER available so far during the BOGO sale?
I'm starting to wonder if this is one of those amazing coincidences that they do not seem to have certain LEGO sets in stock during a BOGO.

It seems they actually have Hogwart's Express for store pick-up. We missed it and I haven't seen it available anywhere but at $109 I just don't know.

Red Cargo back. And GE and VW.

Looks like Ebay might be the cheapest place to find one.

I'm a bit surprised with all the damaged box reports that people are sharing. I've never had any sets damaged to the extent that has been described here but I'm crossing my fingers that the six boxes coming today will be in good shape. The single item per box must be a result of the picking/shipping process used by TRU but maybe it would be really expensive to implement a new system.

The extra boxes are nice if you are a reseller since you won't have to buy as many boxes- just be sure to pack two per box.

Grand Emporium is back in stock at TRU the last I check at 8:30am Eastern time. Not sure how long it will last. And they are giving a $20 cash rebate on purchase today

I've had sets from TRU come in pristine condition and some with corners crushed. The packing was the same in each case. I think it comes down to how much UPS/FedEx handle the box, however I suspect any damage could be mitigated by using either more packing material in the large boxes with single sets or boxes that better fit the sets.

I just hope the 4 boxes being delivered today haven't been roughed up too much, I hate having to return to B&M store and sit on the credit until the next online sale.

Whenever I have had TRU packages shipped to my home address, every single one has been packaged terribly and damaged to some degree. Whenever I have had TRU packages shipped to my work/business address, every delivery has arrived packaged with care and in pristine condition. Make of that what you will :)

Robber's Hideout in-stock, for those looking.

Got my boxes and one looks like it was kicked in big time, the Unimog box was pushed in on the side, by far the worse TRU shipping box I have received ever..
Will need to roll the dice and take it to a TRU B&M and see if I can swap it for one in the store.. hope I do not get a swapped content box in doing so....
  • andystarandystar Member Posts: 275
@madforlegos I'd be so lucky that my local TRU stocks sets such as the Unimog. They don't stock modulars or any non-SW set over $140.
  • jtkauffjtkauff Member Posts: 15
All this talk about the horrible box conditions is making me nervous... although I'll just be glad when my status changes from "Item(s) located in stock."
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
    @andystar Same! Its very unfair.
  • JP3804JP3804 Member Posts: 332
I received 10 boxes yesterday. All are in pristen condition. :-) Just lucky I guess.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,789
^--- Usually I am as well, as the other boxes I received all are Ok, a bit of typical shipping wear but nothing extreme like the one box.

After checking online to see available stocks in stores, I'm guessing I will need to contact TRU customer service to exchange it once they have them back in stock
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,789
So is there a 20% off deal going on for today only?
I know I received a 20% one item coupon for a TRU store which is good from 2/24/12 to 3/1/12, but wondering if something else is going on to try to get a super stack thing going.

  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
    ^ dunno, @boldtar said something about a $20 rebate.
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
I received a 15% off coupon in the mail. 2/24/-3/17.

Same here. In-store only mentioned in the fine print. I've not seen any $20 rebate at all.

I was able to pick up 2 of the Funhouse sets today on the promo. Of course, the cashier HAD to tell me about how Toys R Us is the BEST place to buy Legos. Hard to tell if she was being sarcastic, had been brainwashed, or was just a moron.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ or maybe a brainwashed moron being sarcastic =)
  • boldtarboldtar Member Posts: 5
^ @madforlegos. There was a link in my TRU email confirmation for my order today

You qualify for a FREE CASH BACK REBATE up to $20 for your purchase today courtesy of Great Fun!.

I call the phone # given on the link and the person say a $20 gift card will be send to me within 5 days.

  • BrickStanleyBrickStanley Member Posts: 14

Hmmm. A quick search of Big Fun and Rebate comes up with all kinds of consumer complaint sites and scams. Be careful!

  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
^Yea I found the same thing. Be careful. TRU has never sent me any type of coupons. Then again, Lego stopped sending my catalogs years ago and refuses to start sending them again. So I guess I am not lucky.

received my FB and GE today, seems like the boxes are in good condition and the stickers are sealed...the FB is 51R1 too so no worries about the 39R1 fiasco
  • jpczjpcz Member Posts: 95
Cant seem to catch GE...and for sure not getting any emails about it despite signing up to be notified when they come in stock. Is there a way to find out in advance when the BOGO sale is coming up, so that I stay up until 12am on the sunday to get the two modulars i need?
  • forumreaderforumreader Member Posts: 97
The e-mail notifications have never worked right for me. To catch the sales, you either have to hope a Brickset/Toysnbricks tipster gives advance notice, or watch for when the TRU website rolls over for the week, showing the new deals.

Anyone else surprised that Death Star is STILL in stock?

Why can I not bring myself to pull the trigger on a pair of Excavators (8043)?? Brings the cost down to $150/ea.
  • BanditBandit Member Posts: 889
Why wouldn't the Death Star be in stock? It's not on sale or part of the BOGO...
  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
No, its not included in the bogo deal. Everyone thinks it is going to shoot way up after EOL, but it won't. There are hundreds on the aftermarket already. I don't believe the death star is even that great compared to the mellenium falcon. It won't repeat the MF's sales.

@Odindusk, the excavator is out of stock right now, but it has been restocked 2-3 times already so keep checking.
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
Oops! I didn't look carefully, sorry.

They usually post the sale info a day in advance on the web site. So, at 12:01am eastern time Saturday morning (i.e., about 7 hours from now), they will have the add up for the sale which starts the next day. So that gives you 24 hours to prepare for what you want to jump on when the sale starts. Recently the sales haven't been starting until 9am or so, but this last one started at midnight.

@andystar has some other method/source for seeing the sales in advance. He already knows the next two weeks.

No, I mean there are a pair sitting at my local TRU and I just can't get over the mental hump and decide to buy them. Someone convince me. Go.
  • adello25adello25 Member Posts: 361
I picked up the Fire Brigade and Medieval Market Villa today. I had a 20% off coupon from my rewards membership. The manager allowed me to use it on the Fire Brigade (fine print said not to be used with other R Us sales/promotions) so I got the Fire Brigade for $120 and Medieval Market for $50; not a bad day in my opinion!

Still have a 15% off coupon so will probably try to go back and get something else! =)

^^ Are you wanting 2? Or just 1, and nothing else to pair with? I may be convinced to get the other if you only want 1.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^^ Good to know. I plan to try this tonight. Did it not ring up automatically? Did a manager have to override?

I don't think it did. The cashier looked at it and said it isn't scanning, she called the manager over and I guess he over rid the system and applied the discount anyway.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
If they had a Unimog there I'd definitely get that and an Excavator for actual use. I'm not big on buying to stash/resell mainly just from lack of space, and I don't really need 2 as I'm not a huge MOC-er.

I must dwell on this over dinner.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
I see those other Lightning Dragon sets are finally gone down there. Was considering getting those too. :)
  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
Do you know someone else to buy the excavator with you? I opened one I got from TRU today because I saw it was resealed. It's cool, but it has a real low piece count I thought. I'm definitely looking at the unimog next, too bad your store doesn't have any.

Glad I'm not the only one having those issues with TRUs notification system.. Once I got a in stock notification about 2 months after I requested one for a FB.

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Just stopped by my local TRU store to return two crushed items...

Wow, they were pretty well stocked, including an Excavator, which I've never seen in the stores before. It wasn't a return either, or I don't think, it was mint condition.

They had a number of larger sets, but nothing worth buying I'm afraid. Grr...

Store credit already spent back on TRU's web site. :)

I may go in on one with sidersdd, not sure yet.

Also, I do admit that the piece count being so low is something that tugs me in the direction of not getting it. I realize that it includes a ton of Power Functions stuff which justifies the cost, but I just love putting together huge sets with high piece counts. I feel like I'd be robbed somewhat of that experience with the Excavator. There is a lot of "play" in the final product, which may be good for scaring my cats, I guess.
