With the confirmed demise of Vidiyo I think it’s worth pulling out its best and positive features because there’s plenty to pull through into future new IPs or other themes they already have:

    - Variety of minifigures was fantastic and people really respond to quirky characters that are not specific heroes of villains. Arm and leg prints help too.
    - Having very distinctive different subthemes of characters and environments was also a great win. Particularly genres like Pirate Punk and ETDM (in a parallel universe there’s probably a separate and very popular Lego Punk Pirate theme)
    - The BeatBits printed tile collecting gimmick sucked me in (and it appears the Harry Potter equivalent has too) - as long as it’s relatively easy to acquire a good amount in official sets. Printed pieces in general were popular here.
    - The stage sets themselves were great fun, often becoming like a mini doll’s house with some ‘lifestyle’ areas themed to a genre that feel like they could be part of a ‘City Music’ subtheme (after all, not all musicians have to be Friends). The Boombox was excellently designed and the foldout function was so smooth - I’d love to have more dual purpose sets like that.
    - The marketing and branding was pretty good too - stood out in the marketplace and felt fun (just until people looked at the price tag anyway…)

The cancelation comes as no surprise at all. I'm glad I was able to complete the Punk Pirate band when I did.

LEGO, get those prices under control and if you're going to tie it to an app, make sure the app is actually good and something kids want.

But... absolutely excellent job on the design quality of the figures, keep that up!

    Swing and a miss.

To keep things on the positive side as The_Rancor said, I'm sure LEGO learned a few valuable tidbits and is a stronger company because of it.  Onward and upward.

Guess I will never be able to find any of the Series 2 bandmates, I was somewhat hopefully but the WMs around me didn't have any stock last month, figured that was the one shot.  Won't be paying the absolutely crazy prices on ebay - I mean $200 for a whole set of 12?  Unbelieveable.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was able to get half the set at my local WM before they vanished. The prices for these figures is insane. I'm a sucker for crazy cool minfigs.

I've seen them at my LEGO store, but I'm not paying the RRP to gamble for the 3 figs I want, and indeed the prices for specific figs are hilariously bad. My stages won't get their full bands then, sadly.

That’s a funny planning quirk for TLG - there wasn’t enough room for two of the Candy Pop characters to be performing in proper slots/locations on their stage, but the K-Pawp stage still had one empty slot even if you had all the minifigs from that genre. I’ll excuse the Boombox because it was intended to be a mish mash.

I could have saved all of the figures I got in my order and resold them for a much higher amount now, but I hate all of the price gouging, so I'm glad that I sold them all to local LUG members at retail.

It's going to be so fricking hard now to complete my set of Series 2.

I took a gamble on getting a full set of Series 2 from overseas back when they came out.  Ended up paying a little more than retail+tax (like 50 cents per figure), but I'm so glad now that I did.  I definitely feel for all of you still trying to finish your sets. I feel like Vidiyo could definitely be one of those themes that explodes in value in a couple years, even though it was so difficult for them to move it off shelves.

It's a shame the theme got canned tbh but it's to be expected.
The sets were decent, the figures were some of the best last year IMO. Series 2 was exciting to wait for in that respect.

The app 'integration' killed this theme. It alienated many and drove the price of the sets waaaaay too high.
Please TLG, no more 'App' themes!

I would argue the marketing wasn't the best too. Releasing 6 Beatboxes upfront wasn't great. Should have put some actual 'stages' up in the initial wave.

Yes I should’ve been more specific there. The graphic design and branding were awesome for the theme overall in the toy market - plus they had clearly learnt some lessons from the box designs of Hidden Side for the playsets, although the Beatboxes were a bit odd.

However, actually getting the products to market was ridiculous without any ‘conventional’ boxed sets in the first wave. And the pricing. And the fact that it was intended to be a very tactile experience which unfortunately couldn’t be demonstrated well to kids during a pandemic.

Meanwhile, my Vidiyo minifigs are on a worldwide tour, after staying in Western Canada for a bit, making a few stops in Eastern Canada, and now keeping the tour going all accross the Atlanticbin the depths of Paris' musical scene...

Just snagged the Punk Pirate Ship in my local Walmart for $36.  Shelf tag still said $48.  Had I known I would have grabbed the Candy Castle Stage too.  Hopefully they will still have it next time I go.

Aww man I was hoping they'd release a D2C giant pyramid concert hall. =D

They'll still struggle to shift some of them even with 30% off

The last time I was in a Lego store a few weeks ago (during the recent fancy taxi promo) they were 50% off. I'm sure some are still in stock.

I'm still so tempted to fetch a second copy of all the sets, Beatboxes included, while things are still around...  But can I afford it?  That is the question...

I'm tempted to sell my Series 2 BandMates, have you seen the secondhand prices for them?

I sold all of mine (except the DJ Captain which I bought here) to fellow LUG members at-cost. I don't feel bad about it.

    But... $$$

I still need six of the series 2 and I'm gonna need to rob a bank to afford them all.
