Power Functions Train Issue

We set up my son's Winter Village sets yesterday along with the train which we installed the Power Functions motor into. It worked fine yesterday (as it has in previous years) but this morning we had a malfunction. When you turn on the battery pack the train runs at full speed regardless of what the remote is doing. It won't slow down, stop or otherwise respond at all. The remote is still working, the lights light up when you press the buttons and I tried changing the batteries in case they were running low but no effect. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Sorry, I just do not have any experience with these motors.. I would presume there is some sort of way to 'reset' these devices (or if the devices have multiple channels maybe a channel got switched on one of the devices?)

Thank you for this. I looked at it and I was all set to conclude that something was wrong with the IR sensor on the remote but I also double checked the wiring and realized that my son must have switched where the wires were connected. The battery pack was running straight to the motor and the IR Receiver was connected to itself. Not going to do much that way :)

Was about to suggest checking the IR receiver was connected correctly. Also there is a slide switch for one of four channels, both receiver and remote must be on the same number
