[Elsewhere] Amazon.es Question

edited February 2012 in Shopping Elsewhere
I just purchased 2 death stars from amazon.es, both are shown to be cost 309E but when orderded them it charged me 315 for each. I sent them a message in English but I got message saying they are not capable to speak any language other than Spanish.
Has anyone ever run into that sort of problem? Or does anyone have any advice on what to do?

Also currently my order shows that it is "back-ordered" but on the web site it shows that they have 3 in stock.
Is this normal?

yes, Ive also noticed that they seem to notch up by a small increment when you order with them. This happens consistently and I dont know why.
  • rasmustalirasmustali Member Posts: 85
strange, I havent noticed that on other amazon sites.

It happened to me with them too but the price was still decent so I didn't quibble.

    it is tax reason.
they adjust to the tax of your country.
    spanish VAT: 18%
    Estonian VAT: 20%

you get your 2 basic points change!

one more question, I reached the limit on my credit card when I ordered 2xDS, so it is saying: Order Status: Review of required payments
I now put money back on my credit card, should I just wait until amazon itself checks my balance again or should I cancel that order and order it again?
  • SupersympaSupersympa Member Posts: 534
you wait, they will try again today or tomorrow.
you do not have to do anything

The same thing happened to me when I ordered them back in december. I also sent them the email, and they happily refunded the excess charge. They had no problem understanding English.

"Enviado mediante UPS (fecha de entrega prevista: Wednesday, 15 de febrero de 2012)."
Hope to see 2 DS on 15th already :P,
I ordered 2x IS 1 day before from amazon.it and it should arrive 18th. Strange shipping methods.

They arrived today already :P. One has a bit of a shelf wear, but other is almost in perfect condition, one corner shows a bit of wear but otherwise superb. I guess if I have time and enough room I will build the one of them and other one I will keep in swiss bank.

What do you guys think should I try to send back the one that shows some marks on box?
Also the photo that shows amazon box inside, that was how they were packaged, quite loose, has anyone else had packages like that?
  • SupersympaSupersympa Member Posts: 534
no, I would build the one with that "small corner" with shelfwear.
that is really nothing in my opinion...

nothing wrong with those at all. both look really good. When you are ordering such a large set, it's very difficult to get something that looks 'unhandled'.

Ok, it was just my first "bigish" lego buy so didnt know what to expect from box condition. To be awnest I do not understand how they look as good as they do, these boxes are f***ing heavy, even when yo turn them on the side to look pictures you have to be careful not to do any harm.

^ exactly, which is why your copies are both great.

slightly off topic, but although it would increase cost, I wouldnt mind seeing the odd UCS in stronger or different packaging. I think most serious collectors/builders of the very biggest sets would be happy to pay a touch more for this, particularly if it has say some plastic windows to show the product etc.

yep, not a bad idea as long as they would also keep making UCS with regular packaging so we can still afford to buy them for building.

I've said for years that I think you should be able to opt for a normal box, or just a plain brown box which can fit the build model in, at least for online orders from [email protected], I can understand it would defeat the purpose of a colour box in shops. There are lots of times when I'd have loved to have saved £5 or £10 off a big set for not having the box. This could tie in with special packaging for UCS, ie DS £269.99 Brown Box, £279.99 special UCS box. (standard is £274.99)

DS from the Lego Store or from Shop & Home comes in a form-fitting heavy cardboard box, then packed inside another shipping box if shipped.

UCS Falcon came the same way...

Really nice because it keeps them strong and in perfect condition. Sadly, they did away with this for UCS SSD, it comes 2 per shipping box, so they have to take them out to send them out or to give them to you...

Those Death Stars look in nice condition - I'm surpised theres not more damage to them other than the slight wear in the corner. Packaging looks poor - When I received my Imperial Shuttles (from Amazon.it) they were packaged very similar, they really do need to pack more around the corners (both Amazon.es and Amazon.it), and bubble wrap on the top to reduce crushing. The taping of the box isnt very good either - just a few strips of clear tape around a heavy box like that.

Would it not have worked out better buying from Lego direct when the double VIP points is on? That way you would have a perfect mint box - and a slightly cheaper price. I have 4 Death Stars at the moment that were from Lego and they are still in their original protective box - but wont be buying anymore until its at least double VIP points.

there is no lego shop in estonia, and also I guess 309E (259 pounds) for 1 DS can not be beaten by lego shop anyways.

£259 is good value for the Death Star for sure.
