Rebuilding/Building all my Winter Village Lego and finding that elusive part.

edited December 2020 in Building and Techniques
Having great fun rebuilding (and building some for the first time), all my Winter Village and small seasonal sets. I have around 120,000 bricks, mostly sorted by part. yet can I find the single 4285634 I have to build the WV carousel? Annoyed that I have just spent nearly 2 hours looking in all the compartments for it. I know I have seen it somewhere recently. Does anyone else do this? Or are you all organized and neatly labelled.....? I guess I may have to order a spare from Bricklink and wait ages for it to arrive.

I have just done exactly that, and had the same thought as I was placing my order.  Just didn't want to wait till next week for it though. The search continues!

I bagged all my WV sets up separately, so I didn't have to search through my half a million parts to find bits, or find that I'd used them in mocs 😂

That's a massive part to have mislaid! ;-)

I'm with @Paperballpark on this. All WV sets are bagged separately, for ease of assembly each year. We share out the sets, so each of my daughters and I build a set at a time. It's more than enough hassle being asked to help find a part for them every 2 minutes, without having to trawl through my whole collection! ;-)

I've just checked which part the OP was referencing! Is it bad that I have about 200 of those?

I ordered a bulk amount of them a few years ago, intending to use them in GBCs, but moved away from building those before I could use them...

@Paperballpark, I had the same idea as you, and intend to keep my Christmas sets separate, as I have been compling parts for them since October.  @JudgeChuck, you're right, it is a massive part to have mislaid. I am still looking this morning, it will be somewhere odd because of its size. I possibly only own the one of these, as I don't own much Technic lego.

Just checked, I must own two, as I have fairground mixer.

Its a massive part, but mercifully not massively priced if you require another one from BL or LEGO

Found it. It was hiding under the brackets.

Always the way! Wait until you get to the point where you order parts you swore you'd already ordered but can't find, and then when they arrive you go to put them away and find some already there from the order you did, after all, previously make... :)

And sure enough, I have just doubled my count of  gear wheels with 40 teeth! On the positive side though, my Winter Village Market is now fully built. I love that set, in fact I love the whole series.

I lost the sign from above the Christmas tree stall from the WV Bakery, ordered it, received it, put it in place and then the sign showed up in a big box of LEGO pine trees.  I should have looked there before, it was a bit obvious . . . .

Every year, I am meticulous about dismantling each set and bagging them individually, however, there are *always* the odd missing pieces! Mainly 1x1 round studs, of course, but this year I was also missing the pie from the GWP Gingerbread House and a 2x2 Green brick from the WV Train Station.
On the flip-side, I had extra 1x4 Brown plates and a 2x2 Light Tan brick, as well as a few odd 1x1 round studs!
How this happens, I shall never know, but I *always* end up with a small list of parts added to my "Replacements" Wanted List on BL.
