Just the instructions?

I know we all know every Lego brick ever made is compatible with every Lego brick ever made, but I must ask...

Did/Does anyone ever buy/request/download scans of old set instructions WITHOUT the need for their respective sets? Since you already own the pieces required for it anyway (whether of the same color or not)?

I tried to attempt this many times, but I always find myself a specific piece or quantity short.

Yes I had this sometimes a few years ago with technic sets. I had (have) many technic pieces, but if I wanted to make a set that I didn't have, there was almost always a piece that only came in that set or a few sets. But nowadays I can make the most (modern, studless ;-) ) technic sets.

I suspect that exact issues results in a notable proportion of purchases on BrickLink!

This is why Lego sets the parts in sets, so you do not have to run around like a chicken wiith your head cut off.. It is maddening. I have done it, but Id prefer not to do it ever again If I can help it.
