40426 Christmas Wreath

Has this been retired already? It went from Out Of Stock to just totally vanishing from the uk Lego site? I’d rather not pay silly money for one on the secondary market if they are likely to be available again.

I think your guess is as good as anyone's at the moment. I also noticed this a few days ago, when it was also removed from my Lego.com wish-list.

Interestingly, it's not on any of the expected End of Life lists, but it may have also come out after a lot of those were compiled. It's not clear what the status is. I hope it comes back, or at least some version of it does. I got 2 and have built 1 so far. I really like it. I hope others get to enjoy it as well.

I reckon they hedged their bets with this one this year. They didn't produce many this year to judge demand of such items. That way, they are not left with loads of seasonal product that they have to discount to get rid of it if the idea fails. It wouldn't surprise me if it comes back next year in greater numbers. No new design costs and a proven market for it.

That's why they always ride single-file, even if they're easily startled.

If you are near a Legoland Discover Center I would check with them. I know that in the US they also were at the LDCs

I wondered if they cut production short due to the alternate build being more overtly religious than what is typically produced by lego. (The 4 candles are different sizes to indicate that the shortest one was lit on 4 sundays, the tall only being lit once. together they indicate the beginning of the liturgical year). I'm not sure if there is secular use of these different sized candles at christmastime. But I could be wrong. 

I know that the source of advent calendars is religious too but they seem pretty commonly secular at this point in our consumer societies.

I'm not an ecclesiastic expert, but that was my first thought when this set was announced.  Also not trying to start an argument, just thinking out loud as to why its lifespan was so short. 

Or the answer is Covid. (shrug)

Advent calendars are quite common in Europe. I’m sure it’s just that they didn’t produce a ton and they sold fast.

I was thinking the secondary build looked more like a table centrepiece, didn't twig to any potential religious connotations.

I'd heard they were fragile - that the vertically-hanging wreath version was likely to fall apart. If true, maybe that's why they stopped selling it and removed it from the website?

Plenty of stock on the Wreath and other Christmas sets.

My wreath set is quite sturdy and I've had no problem in hanging or handling it.

The nearest Lego store to me is shut due to COVID. And even were it to be open I’m not allowed to travel there.

Seasonal item, it'll be back for the next few years holiday run. They do this a lot.

Not all seasonal items come back but I hope this one does.  They didn't bring back the seasonal Xtra set they sold out of last year. There have been other seasonal items that have been one & done like some of the seasonal vignettes.  I'm sorry I didn't pick up another Wreath before it Sold Out but at least I got one.  I had hoped to get to one of the LEGO stores that are not quite near me but when the Covid cases started going up again my health is more important and they are now out of them.

Spoke to customer services regarding another order this morning and enquired about this set - they sold out quicker than expected but aren't expecting any more stock probably so they won't be stuck with stock out of season like @CCC mentioned, the CS agent did helpfully check which of my nearest Lego stores had stock in.

I have 2 in the UK if anyone is really desperate, would trade for recent GWP (ice rink, dickens, HP etc) or similar. Bought 2 for home but with the year we're having we could wait until next year as they have enough lego to open (wow, me saying 'enough' never enough lol)

It might not be retired though. It might be coming back next year, so not marked as retired.

Yeah it was in and out of stock in the beginning as well, I think it was more popular than excpected. Lovely set so hope it will come back next year for those who missed out.

My mother, who likes LEGO but usually gets either very small sets ($20 or less) or is gifted larger ($200) sets, but almost never buys mid-size sets, and NEVER buys duplicates except for gifts, purchased 4 of them for herself. And she usually doesn't really have a drive to get sets right when they come out, she gets them just whenever she happens to run across them... but the wreaths she got the day after release.  Given that, I definitely wouldn't be surprised if you're 100% correct about the popularity of the set.  It actually really reminds me of the Ghost BrickHeadz last year (#40351) that was wildly popular and disappeared almost as fast as it was released... hopefully it follows the same trajectory over all, because once they got the Ghost set back into circulation, it was clear they had done a much MUCH larger run to account for the popularity of the set.

Was lucky to pickup a couple of them at my local Lego store(Lego House), and was told that it most likely has retired for good at the web shop if it comes back in will only be in the Lego Stores, but that was also a big if. They had not been able to keep up with the demand in the store, and they where pretty sure that as soon as the shop opens up again after this corona shut down, what they have left will be gone the first day.
I had yesterday got them to put a couple aside for me to collect this weekend, before it was decided that they would close Lego House until the end of January at best, but as a service to customers who had gotten sets put aside for collection, they let people come and collect these sets today and next week, where they are cleaning/locking down the place. That is what I call good customer service!!

Stonewars is reporting that a source told them the wreath will definitely be back next year. It is simply retired for this year.

Went into the Watford shop today and saw a bunch, so grabbed some. They were surprised they got more.

I really hope they bring this back again.  Luckily I did buy one but I was planning to pick up another at some point.  Unfortunately it seems that pretty much all holiday sets except the Big Winter Village annual release get retired after their briefinitial run and occasionally remain available only in actual LEGO stores until the stock runs out.  It's a crap shoot with these type sets because if they bomb they end up heavily discounted but if they are a hit they become impossible to purchase without going through third party resellers at ridiculous markups.

Why would they suddenly dump a holiday set right before Christmas and not wait until after? That's just mean! I just don't get corporate marketing.

Managed to pick one up this morning at Metrocentre while finishing off (i.e. doing most of) my Christmas shopping. They had several on display but said they hadn’t been expecting anymore in. Glad not to have missed it although I suspect it will be a seasonal return next year.

Mine was hung on the door to the kitchen, its gets closed pretty heavily several times a day and was absolutely fine. I took it down last night as I was beginning to pack away my festive LEGO. I laid it on table and when I went to pick it up it just popped apart in several places on the hinge joints. It feels like it hanging down stretches them a bit, but they hold. Laying flat relaxes them.

I havn't packed mine away yet, but I'm unsure if I should keep it built or dismantle it. It's quite a boring build.

It lays flat in the box, so I've done that with the spare parts in a baggie and the instructions. If it gets damaged its only putting leaves back in position.
