bit smaller than I was expecting. Still a purchase from me though!
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 4,001
A lot of features though, and Jabba looks fab. Im think £80-90?

Has the piece count been disclosed? I have my eye on a listing of the original Jabba's Palace for a reasonable enough price, not sure which looks better.
  • StevenAshbyStevenAshby Member Posts: 155
this set really needed the Rancor that would have made it a must have.
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 Member Posts: 1,431
Is it just me or are the play sets getting smaller and smaller?
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
It does look a lot smaller than I had expected, given Hamleys (albeit inflated) price of £150. I can't imagine it will be less than around £100 RRP - surely even Hamley's couldn't mark something up by over 50%??

If these pictures show the entire new playset, you may want to get the original as well and MOC them together to make a usable playset...

Wow that's small! Can it really be £100+. Looks more comparable to battle of endor to me.

Here's a view of the palace from the back, showing the roof in place.

Because the video was taken from above, it's going to make the palace look smaller than it is. It should appear more grandiose from a front-on angle.
  • streekerstreeker Member Posts: 299
I count 24 studs across for the main platform where Jabba is. The tower part is probably 12 studs, so roughly 36 studs total. I'm not counting that plank on the left side which gives the optical illusion of being bigger.

The figs are going to drive the price on this one....

Oh oh. We just found our very first SW set to buy, build and keep :P
  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
Wow they totally nailed this set. Minifigs are A+, plenty of play features, looks like a fun build too. Buying ALOT of these.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
    I can't wait!! So excited!!!

depends on the price thisset should be a 100 dolalrs max. People are basically paying for the minifigs in this set.
  • scubagirlscubagirl Member Posts: 12
    Love It!!
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
I agree: the minifigs look well executed.
The Palace would look better if it were larger, of course, but ultimately, it's not a terribly interesting building so it would mostly just look... bigger. Thus, I can understand that TLG is trying to hit a certain price point, and appreciate that they managed to include the play features that they did.

Oh no I hated this at first now I want it so bad there goes another £100+. The figs are amazing as always and the set colour is fanatastic. Given the next year is the 30th anniversary of rotj could we be in for a rancor pit playset? We can only hope.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
The 7879 hoth play set was a similar size to this (I am ashamed to say I bought that) it was £100 at full retail with the best part of 800 pieces with 9 figs (including tauntaun) so I can see this being in the same region, but looks far better to me.

i think this looks nice for a play set, but just cant help feeling disapointed lego didnt include a Rancor in his pit. i would have made the set...

  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ most likely it would have made the set too expensive given i would have needed another level.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
This looks incredible! All the new minifigs, and I LOVE how the outside looks like the palace exterior, and the interior looks like the set from the movie. I'm also a big fan of dark tan bricks, so that helps. Much cooler than I expected all around.
  • The_Brick_BuilderThe_Brick_Builder Member Posts: 658
Something about the Jabba the Hutt minifig dosen't really please me. I think I like the old one better.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
Really?! I love the new Jabba with his moveable head and new color and paint job.
  • Agent_DebrisAgent_Debris Member Posts: 55
What no Leia in slave girl outfit! Then it's a no from me!, lol. Seriously though this set looks very nice indeed the minifigs especially have been well done, it will be pricey though! , Jabba has always been one of my favourite SW characters so I will admit I'm very tempted.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
So... that tenth minifig is still a mystery, huh?
  • legoDadlegoDad Member Posts: 529
Love this set. Lot's of fun play features. Definite must buy.
Wonder if they're counting Hans Carbonite chamber as a '10th' figure OR we don't see Slave Leia (which is what I suspect is the 10th fig.).
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
    If I'm counting right...

    Han
    Gamorrean Guard
    Twilek Dancer
    Chewy
    Bounty Hunter Leia
    Bib Fortuna
    *****************
    Jabba
    Salacious Crumb
    ******************
    Carbonite Han
    *****************
    Bomarr Monk

I'm not sure how I feel about characterizing the last 4 as Minifigures. And why only one Gamorrean?
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Notice the two studs next to Jabba. That could be where Slave Leia stands.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
    ^ or 3PO...
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
    that's for crumb obviously

@Yellowcastle...right, I thought they'd count the Carbonite Chamber...like on Brickipedia they count Han in Carbonite as a mini-figure in the most recent Slave I.
Also the BoMarr Monk is counted like they did the Sentry Droid in Luke's Landspeeder set.
I feel minifigs should be characterized as having a unique sculpt or print on them.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
I don't recall the original robots from the Space theme ever being characterized as Minifigures. I think I'd prefer they refer to them as "characters" or such...

It appears they ARE counting the carbonite block as a minifig, which is the only one I really have an issue with calling a minifigure cause it's not even a character. If anything, it's an accessory for Han Solo. I also really have an issue with them saying "seven all-new" minifigures. There are only three "all" new minifigures in this set.

    Slightly off-topic... and this may change before the final version comes out... why can't they EVER get Luke right on the skiff? He should NOT be wearing his glove at that point;
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I take that back. Looks like both previous iterations of the skiff came with the appropriate un-gloved Luke. Making this even more mind-numbing... but also giving me hope that it won't slip through like that.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
^probably just using the gloved one from the ucs shuttle for the prelime shot. The same pics says luke is a new fig which might further back up this point. I'm just hoping for a new sail barge now.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
Ok so great set, but next year I want to be seeing a rancor pit with the rancor handler, gamorrean guard, luke and the rancor (obviously) the little control panel that luke throws the rock at, the big door and the gate that luke tries to force open and the little area he hides under. Could be a bit like the wampa cave set from a few years ago with skeletons and random bones etc.

Here is another video showing the palace plus some of the other new sets including the Skiff...

So is there no Slave Leia minifig?
  • Agent_DebrisAgent_Debris Member Posts: 55
Its looking as there might not be a Slave girl Leia, which seems a odd thing to leave out of a set like this, fingers crossed it will still appear in the set, maybe Lego deemed it to kinky!..lol
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
There is a bounty hunter Leia. It would kind of make sense to only have one or other - although they do have Han and Carbon Han....

Even so the bounty hunter Leia, carbon Han and normal Han together push the time frame slightly earlier - Slave Leia and Luke would push it later (like the old Palace) so it still does make some kind of sense.

We've also had a couple of Slave Leia's already - is this the first Bounty Hunter Leia?

Personally I'ld rather have had Han with the skiff and C3PO or another guard in the Palace set.
  • xowainxxowainx Member Posts: 112
No, just Leia in Boushh disguise. You should easily be able to snap up a Slave Leia from 6210 or magnet set she was in from Ebay or Bricklink though.
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 4,001
Is he meant to be filming the demonstration? If so, why isn't the camera straight! Interesting features though.

Nice to finally get a Leia bounty hunter fig.
  • Agent_DebrisAgent_Debris Member Posts: 55
If you check out the video I posted its at much lower angle and slightly closer, plus a pretty close view of the new Skiff set as well.

Looks like Leia-Boushh wins out over Leia-slave girl in this set, to recreate the "free Han from Carbonite" scene...
  • krklintkrklint Member Posts: 502
and Leia is carrying a... a... thermo detonator!

Though not Lego, I might cross-over when MOCing this set into a larger set, by dusting off my original 1980's hasbro Jabba the Hutt. Though nice, this Jabba still seems small to me. Like a young Jabba from the remake of Episode IV.

Btw, I love the addition of the green frog. A Hutt needs snack food!

    Drat! Drat! DRAT!

I have the original and I really wanted to hate this in order to keep my wallet happy. It's going to turn up in my basket at some point isn't it ?!??!

Oh well - why fight the inevitable!

Regarding the minifig count @Yellowcastle is correct....
It appears to be these 9:
    1) Jabba
    2) Salacious Crumb
    3) Bib Fortuna
    4) Gamorrean Guard
    5) Oola (Twilek Dancer)
    6) Han Solo
    7) Princess Leia in Boushh outfit
    8) Chewbacca
    9) B’omarr Monk
