Potential Moving Sale! Local Pick Up Only - Northern VA (Alexandria)

monstblitzmonstblitz Member Posts: 653
Hi Everyone,

I hate to part with any portion of my collection but I'll be moving from VA to NY in the near future and the thought of moving my collection, especially the built sets is giving me a panic attack.

I'm mostly interested in selling the assembled portion of my collection, most notably my modular collection.  It won't be a firesale by any means, and I'm only advertising it here as I know this is a good group of collectors who aren't interested in nonsense.  If someone comes with a fair offer, I'll wheel and deal.  Not interested in selling piece by piece no time for that.  Only interested in someone coming and taking a large portion of the collection, at least the built pieces that will be hard to move.  Will include sealed sets for additional $$s as desired.

I'm currently in NY so no pictures available now but here are the highlights of my collection:

Complete modular collection from Cafe Corner to Bookshop.  Important notes:
-Cafe Corner and Market Street are bricklinked with color substitutions.  Cafe Corner color subs are minimal, Market Street was done with a very different color scheme - Orange and blue vs. 2 tone blue.
-All other modulars are originals.  2 I purchased used:  Town Hall (from a member here) and Green Grocer (Ebay).  Town Hall does not include box.  Green Grocer comes with damaged box.  No boxes for CC and Market Street as they are bricklinked.  All other sets have boxes.  Some of them received slight water damage a couple years back but are in OK shape.  Bookshop is still sealed!!

Included with the modulars are several other sets, cars, vehicles, minifigures etc.  Also have several built Ninjago sets including Ninjago City and Temple of Airjitsu.  I have old fishing village, a mid sized Millenium Falcon, UCS Snowspeeder, VW bus, a bunch of brickheadz, many many collectible mini figures.  I'll throw in 4 Ikea shelving units with counter tops that have made for my city scape.  Might be willing to throw in other shelving units if someone has the space to haul.  Anything that makes my move easier!

I haven't done the homework to come up with a fair market value for all of this.  Of course there will be a discount to factor in I'm leaving all the work for the buyer.  Pickup, packing, sorting, etc.  I'll help where I can!  Realistically I can't see myself parting with this collection for anything less than 5K.  If someone wanted to come and take some of the sealed sets too, like I said, I'll be open to anything but the offer has to be right.

Other highlights of my collection that I have in sealed sets:
1st Edition UFC Millenium Falcon (10179)
New UFC Millenium Falcon (75192)
Many other UFC Start Wars sets, many retired
Too many other sealed sets to mention - an entire closet full, and other sealed sets overflowing in other sections of the house.

I have archived a very small portion of my sets on Brickset and the retail value Brickset gives me is over $7k just to give you all some idea of the collections size and worth.  Some of those sets are kids sets that are disassembled and in disarray in tubs that will probably make the move with us but that's a very small amount.

This is one of those things that would be good for those of you who are local and interested to come see for yourself.  I'm happy to show it.  You can wear mask, not wear mask, I'm cool either way whatever makes you comfortable.  I'll wear one too if you want.  If someone is willing to drive a reasonable distance to see it I'm willing to answer questions, send pics etc but only willing to do any showings for seriously interested people.

It may not be the deal of a lifetime - but this is a chance to get a pretty large collection with a good "I'm too lazy to move it" discount!!  Hit me up with PM if you're interested.

Thanks guys!

Sorry Sumo, don’t have that one.  Btw, I’m moving back up to your neck of the woods!

Would you be willing to part with your Cafe Corner and Green Grocer? If so, please hit me up with their prices. Thanks!

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for the lack of response on my part I’ve been out of service for a few days.  I’ve received a few questions about parting out the collection.  At this point I’m wanting to sell the whole lot, at least the portion of the collection that’s assembled.  If I have to go through the pains of moving any of it, I’ll move the entire thing.  If I decide to piece it out I’ll let everyone who was interested in specific sets know.  Thanks!

@monstblitz, are you part of WAMALUG/WAMALTC? They've got a fairly active Facebook group that might have someone interested in the whole thing

I'm not. I've heard about it a couple of times over the years, but was never really given any clear instructions about how to join up.  Probably too late now!  lol

My condolences.  I'm counting down the days until I can escape.  And go be an on-site customer service representative at Walt Disney World.  Only 17 years and 11 months...

    Also, enjoy your two-week self-quarantine!

Yeah, Everyone else is leaving and seems like I'm the only one coming back!  Can't wait to experience NY taxes again... /sarcasm.  But cost of leaving in Western NY is still a big win compared to here in Northern VA.  The biggest reason is to be closer to family so we can get some help with the kids and social distance learning while we're stuck teleworking.

2 week quarantine is only for those coming from hot spots, right?  Either way, won't be a problem.  Moving out to the woods.

Update:  our schedule is moving faster than I anticipated.  I had to clear out and pack up the modulars tonight.  Since I’ve gone through the pains of boxing them, I’m going to keep them and move them.  If anyone is interested in any of the other assembled or sealed sets I mentioned and available for local pickup, let me know.  I won’t have any time to do a full inventory but if there’s a notable set you’re interested in from 2014 - current let me know, there’s a chance I might have it.  We will have moving expenses out the ass so willing to part with some stuff still!!

I also wanted to mention I’d like to cut my losses on my 1st Edition UCS Millennium Falcon #10179.  It’s in mint condition, sealed with certificate from Lego.  I’d rather not move it so if someone has been waiting on that one make me an offer!

Thinking of other sealed sets I have that I’d rather not move, I have a “sealed” Ewok Village, sealed in quotes because at lease one of the seals has failed because I stored it standing up for too long.  A move will only make things worse.

Now that I have the modulars packed up and some of the other assembled sets, I’m willing to sell things piece by piece if anyone wants to come browse and make offers.  Along with the the modulars I also packed up Old fishing village, snow speeder, and the movie edition destiny’s bounty so those aren’t available.  Temple of Airjitzu is still available and so is Ninjago City along with some other Ninjago sets.  These are just the assembled pieces that I really don’t want to move.

Did you post your stuff on Facebook marketplace today (I saw a Ninjago City et al on there)?

Yup, that’s me!  If one of you guys are interested I’ll go lower that that price and piece things out.

I actually just deleted the listing from Facebook Marketplace too much horseshit.  Boxing up more sets.  Will probably just move the whole collection at this point.  There was a window of opportunity to cash in on my laziness but it’s just about shut. Still willing to part with sealed sets to help with moving expenses and my daughter has the LEGO Ferris Wheel that will be impossible to move.  Act fast if you’re interested!  More stuff is getting boxed and packed every day!

I saw that today!  I'm moving back very close to where you were born and raised - Hornell, NY.  I was born in Hornell and now have come full circle.  I haven't minded living in NOVA, but I've still considered NY home all these years and I miss winter.  Maybe I'll change my mind when I get back there!

Small world. I grew up on a farm between Bath and Hornell, right on the turnpike. It's a beautiful area.

We must have practically been neighbors!  When I was 3 or 4 we moved to Howard and I was there through high school. You could see my parents house from 17 (86).  And Sumo is right, many more cows than people in Howard.
