Looking to buy your old/worn minifigs please

hey, I've recently got into making custom minifigs (mostly sports ones, eg roller derby and football).

One of the most tedious bits is rubbing the printing off the torsos, it also makes me sad to destroy a perfectly good print. Just wondering if anyone has a bunch of worn torsos they would like to get rid of. I'm happy to pay or trade (perhaps even for a custom fig of your choosing).

I also need large amounts of black hands and yellow arms, which are hard to find on bricklink and can't be bought direct from lego. If anyone wants to trade yellow arms for other colours, or black hands for others, let me know.
I know it's a long shot, but worth asking.
The parts do need to be otherwise if fairly good nick though, but the front and back will be covered so the condition of those bits can be poor.

I have a bunch of unprinted (or is it just called plain?) torsos in different colours that I never use. It would be nice if someone used them :)

I'll also check my supply of yellow arms and black hands when I get back home from work.

Thanks guys! yes plain torsos are a god send! I've ordered some on bricklink, but they're not often available in large quantities to make it worth bothering with.
And yes, @jasen, that's the kind of thing, I've even ordered some worn yellow space dudes, the older prints seem to rub off easier than the new ones. The CMFs are a bugger to get clean, can't really manage it using brasso. gonna raid the chemical cabinet at work to try it!
@duchessa, not sure how much postage is, but let me know and I'll send you some cash. Or a custom minifig of your choice.

    Cheers everyone :D

The guys on classic-space.com used to talk about using a product called Brasso to remove printed graphics from bricks (and also to polish the scratches out of clear or transluscent pieces). I don't know much about the product, maybe others here do?

@Savage_Steel - I just checked my spares. I have several torsos, but no arms for them. Six black, six blue and one red. I also had some spare black hands, but no yellow arms. I'd be happy to donate them if you want them. Just send me a PM with your address :)

Yea brasso is what people use for prints, but it seems like Savage is already using it. It's a metal polisher mainly for copper and brass. I can't see how it would polish scratches though :/ It's pretty powerful stuff but I was surprised to see how much work it took to remove printing on the one figure I tried.

Thanks guys, will PM you Duchessa.
And yes, Brasso is hard work :(

@Savage_Steel - Do you happen to have any pics of your custom roller derby minifigs?

My wife actually plays Roller Derby and I've been mulling over the idea of trying to make custom figs for her and her teammates!

    Hey @vedder1029 - who's she play for?

As it happens I just set up a fb page today, as I've had a lot of requests now pictures of last weeks stall have gone up online. I'll be adding more updates and pictures over the wkd, as I didn't get chance on Saturday (when I ran a stall at our bout) to take any decent pics. And the pics I have are of ones I made quickly to get enough for a team for the diorama. Must do some good quality ones soon for the proper lego fans!

oh, and by the way, they've been very popular. A bit of a domino effect. One girl from the opposing team got one, then about 8 followed :D

@Savage_Steel - She plays for Key City Roller Derby www.keycityrollerderby.org

They just formed last year - she's actually the President of the team. Cool FB page, love the pics!

Cool :) You clearly have a very kick ass wife! Have you started to get dragged into it yet? My hubby started as a ref, and then started his own men's league. They just had their debut bout. It's very addictive!

Glad you like the page. When I look at the pics I see all the flaws, but to be honest derby people are happy with the quality. I wouldn't be confident about selling to real lego fans! But if you do want to buy one, I'd be more than happy to make one. The prices are on my page, appologies if they seem high. I have a lot of orders to fill at the minute, and I'm wondering if that's the right price point to charge. I'd appreciate your feedback :) Because the price includes shipping, each additional one would only be $14

Ya, she actually got me on skates a few months ago. I've thought about training to become a ref as well... we'll see - I can skate pretty well but the time involved is WAY more than I can commit! I think once a men's team is in the works I'll go try out - at least go through the fresh meat program.

I don't think the prices are bad... I mean, it's hard to find derby stuff in general. I've always been interested in how someone were to make Lego quad skates without them being HUGE... looks like you solved that!

@Savage_Steel have you tried Wd-40? I have found it to work fairly well to remove paint on torsos and gummy stuff on parts too... Just make sure you wash them in soapy water after you are done :-)
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
There were a lot of iterations for the quads. If only Lego did some like the ice skates! Do try the fresh meat. Sharing a hobby that's so obsessive with your wife might just save your relationship! ;-)

    Will try wd40 thanks!
