6861 X1 Patrol Craft - help to find better instruction scans.

Mr_CrossMr_Cross Member Posts: 1,672
Hi All,
I've managed to mostly piece together a #6861. Pulled from parts I had spare when I finished restoring my childhood classic space collection (many moons ago) and bits that have accumulated since.

I just needed a couple of cones and two stands, which arrived in a Bricklink order a couple of days ago.
Now I've decided I'd like better quality instructions than the ones available online. If you're familiar with the available scans, they're quite low res and are not cropped very well.
I'm in the UK, which is moot as there is only one (expensive) instruction sheet for sale worldwide...
Does anyone here have these instructions and a flatbed scanner? If so, would you be willing to furnish me with hi-res scans (300 dpi) at size please?
Not for profit, just my nerdy needs.

Are the scans here any better than what you have?

Thanks, but no, those are the (only) ones available online! Sadly, the same ones are available in about three different places. When you print them at size they're quite pixellated and the LEGO logo is cropped off badly too.
I know I'm being picky fwiw.

I'm sure I have/had this. Next time I'm fishing around, I'll see if my instructions are any better, and update this thread.

    @Mr_Cross
Let me know if you don’t track these down- #6861 is on my “to buy” list so I’ll have instructions sometime in the next couple of months

This is probably a really bad job but I did it on all on my phone -

Sort of related.  I think several of the sites that have scans of instructions for older sets are long overdue for a rework.  When created, these were an excellent source of much needed instructions and I appreciate the hard work that went into making them available to the LEGO community myself included.

However, technology advances have greatly improved the picture quality that could be produced today.  Additionally, better source material may now be available for scanning so that a high quality, high resolution image without creases, tears or other defects could be produced.

^The image posted by Hemel is a great example of the better quality that can be achieved.  Plus having the instruction sheet as a single pdf file rather than a collection of jpg's, greatly improves downloadability.

I was going to suggest Peeron, but it looks like Brickfactory got theirs from Peeron.

@Hemel Thank you, that's a great job! I really appreciate the effort you've gone to here.

It would definitely be nice to see better quality instructions out there for all the older sets... especially those with space, castle and town set ups in them.

l'd be happy to help scan any of my instruction sets to contribute to such an effort, if it existed.  I've never used my scanner, but if someone were to send me simple-to-follow instructions on how to create the proper size, format, etc. I could give it a go. Does anyone know if the existing fan sites would accept newer scans? I only know of brickfactory and peeron (RIP...); what other instruction scan fan sites are there?

I’ve also found the low quality scans to be a disappointment... I wonder if it would be worth it for the main Brickset site to start slowly adding higher quality versions (similar to the recent effort in upgrading the vintage catalogs)? It might be too much of a chore and take up too much server space but is maybe worth consideration... @Huw ?
