Help with Selling LEGO please

Hi There
I am new to LEGO (at the age of 35), however have just greatly enjoyed and finished the Cinderella Castle. Sadly I don't have the space to keep so was planning to sell on.
I just wondered on the correct etiquette for selling online? Should the item be broken down or complete and how should the bricks be sorted?
Any advice on the above or general selling tips would be really appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Emily

Photograph it complete, but break it down for postage. It will get broken in the post anyway and breaking it down will mean parts do not get damaged and postage will be significantly cheaper.

Thank-you, this is very helpful. Do buyers expect bricks in original numbered packs or organised by colour?

Not in my experience, although if you've kept the numbered bags it wouldn't hurt to include them in order to satisfy the more particular buyer. If you've still got the set box then that'd increase the value and desirability.

If you can confirm that the set is complete (including the instructions) and provide good photographs of the set then most potential buyers should be satisfied.

Excellent, thank-you. I have kept everything including the original packaging so will ensure that this is photographed

Don't dismantle set. Better to leave it built in case somebody wants to collect. When I sell a set it gets broken down and mixed all together. Never sorted into bags etc. That's extra work..

    Your statement doesn’t make sense.

^^ Don't bother, because it's extra work, isn't the greatest attitude.  Personally I always make sure my sets are dust free, broken down carefully, back in the original bags (if possible) and in the original boxes.  The more effort you take to look after your sets, both when collecting and selling, the more you're likely to make from the sale.

What part was confusing you? It's pretty straight forward process of packing an used set for posting.

How else will I hide the kitty litter, partial cat turds, extra MegaBlox, broken crayon parts and dust bunnies in the bags?

     partial cat turds
What are partial cat turds? Surly something is a cat turd, or isn't. Or is this some sort of hybrid thing, where you mold a cat turd onto something else?

There's partial cat turds.  Can we leave it at that?  And I didn't mean it in terms of a partial cat taking a full turd.  Not like Chimera droppings.  I mean that the turd itself is incomplete.

The real question is why is the cat turd incomplete?  That's what makes its presence in the bin of LEGO so troubling.  How did it get there?  And where is the rest of it...

You tell someone to not dismantle the set, then go on to say when you sell a set it gets broken down... So either you were drunk when you commented, you typoed big time  and did not catch it, or you are hypocritical. In any case, your comment appears to make no sense and does not appear to help the OP.

As for the original poster's question:
Look at it from the buyer perspective: What do they want to know about it? Dust it off if it has been displayed for some time. Take good photographs to add to the sale listing (or have available if the listing does not allow for pics). Be critical and as exact as you can be as to condition (do not just say 'set for sale'): So if any pieces are missing, really beaten up/played with, if the figures are included, condition of the figures, never say 'perfect' as one little scratch on a part can hurt you and cause someone to get a refund, etc. Note it will be dismantled for shipping. Note if it comes from a pet and smoke free house. It is a pain to sometimes do these things, but doing these things reduces chance for miscommunication or someone trying to scam a refund when they buy it (especially if it is a expensive/larger set and you are posting on sites like Bricklink or eBay).

I think what he means is that don't dismantle the set to sell it, so if someone wants to collect it they can and see it built / check completeness. Whereas if it is sold (online) and needs to be posted, then he dismantles it but doesn't sort it, just puts it all in one bag or whatever.
