Or, perhaps they just figure they'll toss it out there to see if anyone bites, or e-mails them and makes them an offer.
Right now there is a 10179 on eBay for $10,000. Not as insane as the above, but so far above market price as to be a waste of time.
@Bosstone100 very true, in the end it is decided by the person willing to buy at that price point. But when applicable, the speculation factor does add to the price of a commodity above its true intrinsic value. Look at oil and diamonds, not worth as much on a practical level (use on daily or industrial basis) than it is from the perceived value of rarity multiplied by quality (and don't get me started on Sports Cards & Comics) All through the ripple effect of speculation, leading to creation of a new market on a broad base. Hence, >3xRRP Modulars and the like. The question is always sustainability though.
