Dcase: Many hours of work to find, clean, sort and build my old Lego Pirate sets. My first post

This is my very first post on this forum and I thought I would share my recently restored pirate sets. These are all sets that were mine from when I was a kid. I am 26 now and have kids of my own, my oldest son who is 6 has recently taken an interest in Legos. This past Christmas he got some of the new Dino and Alien Legos and after helping him put these new sets together it sparked my interest in building my old sets.

The first step was to find all of my old Legos. They were stored in many different boxes and bags and were scattered about in my parents attic. After many hours of searching and gathering the Legos I then had to clean them all. To clean them I soaked them all in the sink with dish soap, rinsed and let dry. Next step was to sort them. There had to have been thousands of pieces from Pirates, Castle, City and other Lego themes that I had. I first sorted by color then sorted each color by brick type.

Then with the help of this site I was able to find what sets I had and I was also able to find the instructions online. Though I had several different themes I had more Pirates then anything so I decided to rebuild all my pirate sets. I am missing some pieces but for the most part they are all complete.

The one thing I could not find that I would really like to get is the flags for the ship. Anyone know where I might be able to get those? They don't have to be original so if there are reprints of them that would be fine.

The best way I know is Bricklink : http://www.bricklink.com/index.asp

Look for the inventory of the set and find the partnumber. Once you find that it is just a matter of finding someone who has the part for sale.

    Good luck !

I'm in the same boat, if you excuse the lame pun. I just finished locating the parts for the black sea barracuda from a sweet bulk buy I found on the weekend and half the flags clips are broken and I don't want to glue them on. I think bricklink would be the best bet. the 2x2 can be picked up for about $0.30 each but don't forget shipping. Search skull flag.

There actually was a similar inquiry not too long ago, so I'll reference you to that discussion:
    http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/3155/sails-for-carribean-clipper#Item_3

Here is a link to The catalog listing of cloth sails:
    http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=P&catString=162
For each element you identify that you need, you can click on the link of the color, and it will show you the ones available for sale.

If you're not quite sure which sails you need, you'll need to search for the set you have in the catalog, bring up the inventory listing, and then find the sails.

Sounds like a lot of work you had to go through, glad it seems like you got a good amount of completed pirate sets though! Pirates are my favorite theme.
