Need help, selling older lego sets

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but have browsed a bit and it seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people regarding selling lego sets.

I have somebody local offering me $220 for my lego collection that I've had since I was about 11. I took phenomenal care of the sets and kept the boxes and instructions, and many of the bags. They've all been played with, but nothing is missing or broken, as I said everything was well taken care of. Looking around the site, I think I likely have a few rarish sets.

This is likely asking a lot, but if somebody who has some knowhow can tell me if I'm getting ripped I'd greatly appreciate it, and if I am getting ripped, if I can be pointed in the direction of a good place to get fair money for it all.

Here's the list;

----------------

As I said I'm not sure if anything here is worth much, but judging by a few sites I've checked I think the Exploriens may be worth a bit more than I'm being offered.

Please help, thanks so much.

Can you take some pictures of the instructions, boxes, and parts?

    How is it sorted?

I already think I'd pay you more than $220 for it, but condition is everything. If it is all in one big tub, it is worth a lot less than if you have it all sorted out by set in numbered zip-lock bags.

The instructions are also half the value, their condition matters. Boxes too, if you have them all.

Post the above and you'll get offers here, that's for sure...

Also, where in the world are you?

    I'm in Ontario, Canada.

Every set is in it's official box, with instructions. Boxes are in fair condition, no major tearing on most of them. Instructions have been used obviously, but once things were put together, typically that was the extent of their use, once or twice kind of thing.

The lego itself is in good shape, no broken pieces, all pieces are there (last I checked anyway) it's probably been 5 or 6 years since I REALLY looked at it. It's still at my parents place since I moved out, they kept it in my old bedroom, so no mold or nastiness on the boxes from moisture.

You have 28 sets listed, at $220 that works out to $7.86 per set. If they are in boxes with the manual and the parts are sorted, that seems low at first glance.

That being said, most of those sets are rather small. A few of them do stand out, but if someone is offering $220 cash and carry, you might want to take it. No risk, you have your money, life moves on. Shipping is going to be the issue selling to anyone here who isn't next door.

I'm interested, but I think shipping kills it, by the time you box it all up so that it arrives in good condition, we'd be back to $220 plus shipping. :)

Gotcha, most of the sets were bought with paperboy money, hence the smaller sets, lol. The big ones were usually presents.

More than anything I think I'm hoping to come up with a good reason to say no so I could hold onto my exploriens (but they are really the bulk of the stuff, really), maybe holding onto my childhood a little bit too. That and I've thought of passing it onto my 2 year old daughter, who obviously won't be playing with any of that stuff for at least a few more years, but I'm sure by that time she'll want some princess set or something more feminine than space.

I wouldn't really be selling it if it weren't for the fact that I don't have the space at my place and my parents have been complaining for 4 years now that they don't have the space either, lol.

But I guess all in all I'm not that far off the mark and should just take it while I can get it, huh?

@Asinity If you're willing to part the collection out I'd like to make an offer on some of the sets in your Odds and Ends section...

    Mainly 6028, 6027, 6007, and 6033

I think those sets have some pretty cool minifigures I never got when I was a kid, (mainly the bat lord, I can thank LEGO Universe for making me like that figure)
If your interested I can look up the price info on bricklink and make an offer, I'm in California so it'd still be international shipping, but hopefully not too bad since I only want some of the smaller sets..

Collectively, they are certainly worth more than $220 (pending condition, and completeness). But there is a lot to be said for the convenience and efficiency of having someone come over, hand you a wad of cash, and walk out with the stuff.

The only reason you need to keep your Exploriens sets, is that you like them. I kept all my classic space sets from the 80s, and if I ever sold them I'd be regretting it now. Pull them out and rebuild them, and have some fun. Older sets in excellent condition are hard to find, although there are plenty around in fair condition from the era yours are from.

I ended up selling the whole batch tonight, might regret losing the Exploriens later on but the money I got is actually going to be enough to help me get into a new hobby that I've been wanting to get into for a few years now. I think it'll work out nicely either way, the kids these went to were quite excited.

Funny enough, the kids that these sets were for didn't want the castle sets so if anyone wants them - by all means let me know. That being said my Bat Lord seems to be MIA right now, I'm assuming he's still at my parents as my daughter was playing with him a little bit earlier in the day so I'm sure he'll turn up.

Thanks for the advice and such guys, and actually rebuilding some of these small castle sets just now actually made me remember why these were so cool in the first place :) I'm going to have to make a stop in at the Lego Outlet near here sometime soon, it's been too long - gotta say some of the new technic sets look awesome.

That's great that they're going to some kids who will enjoy them rather than someone hoping to turn a quick buck.

That was what I was really hoping for, the particular website I used for my ad is full of people who turn-over things they buy to make money. The mom actually emailed me confirmation that Bat Lord made his way into one of the other sets and that I can get him tomorrow - then she also said the only bad thing to come of this is that her one son was refusing to sleep because he can't wait to play with it all.

In the end, I'm happy it went to them and if I ever regret the decision I can look back on it knowing that these kids were extremely happy with it all.
