benbacardibenbacardi EnglandMember Posts: 574
Well, first year of sign up and I've been accepted onto the August 2020 Inside Tour! Anybody else got their confirmation today?

Now I'm terrified… I signed up alone, so I hope there's some friendly faces there ;-)

I'll need all the tips I can get regarding travel, everything… :D

@benbacardi  @nmualumni  Congratulations!  The previous year’s threads have tons of info...

No luck here, unfortunately, although I’ll wait a few days to see if anyone drops out.

    Have a great time!

I went alone... you have absolutely nothing to worry about... there will be a mix of singles, couples, families etc and let's face it you all have a few things in common...

Congratulations and August should be a great time for a tour - the Legoland Park, Lego House and any other attractions you might want to go to nearby will all have maximum opening hours and potentially additional events (the only trade off might be busier airports etc.).

I made the mistake of going to Billund in Spring time last year and got told to leave the Lego House at 4pm - which really surprised me as I wanted to stay til at least 5!

I was also also flying solo on the tour - i’d say the majority of tourers in my group were with at least one other person (kids or adults) but it really doesn’t matter in the end. I still think it’s best to get there early on the day before the tour, or 2 days early. Then when you waltz around Legoland or the Lego House ensure you wear your Inside Tour lanyard so you pick each other out before the tour itself. Helps to break the ice before organised ice breaking!

Congratulations to those lucky few that got a spot next year :D
I was a "lucky looser" last year so it is still hope for those who got a rejection the first round!
I went solo and had a great time, so no problem going alone.
The most useful tips are already in the many reports from earlier years, but I can repeat a few.
If you are going in a off-season time like September, check if it is best to come early or stay longer after the tour since Legoland and Legohouse is not open every day then.
Do not underestimate jetlag, apparently one guy this year missed most of the tour because of it, so are you coming from USA or similar come a few days early to adjust.
The castle hotel you are staying on the tour is something special, but also very expensive so you can save money staying at a different hotel the extra nights.
Instead of paying for breakfast at the other hotel I recommend eating at the bakery close to Lego house, it is cheap and very good food there.
Loplet is also worth a visit if you have time, it is plenty of rare Lego there, but BL prices more or less.
I ate the extra dinners at Cafe Bellini Ristorante and Lego house, the pizza was very good at the first place and the second place is a must for Lego fans with surprisingly good food made by minifigs ;)

    Thanks for the advice!

If you're staying extra days, are you allowed to visit the Lego House on those days even though they're not part of your Inside Tour, or would you have to pay to enter that time?

You can go to the castle hotel and pick up your stuff the from the weekend before the tour. There you will get a annual pass to Legoland. For the Lego house it is a little different, you get a gift card for a annual pass there. So if you do not visit the Lego house except on the tour you can save it a couple of years I think before activating it.
That do not apply for most people on the tour except those coming back to Billund later. So I activated it before the tour and can now visit Lego house for free for a year, which I plan to do sometime next year ;)

Make sure you advertise Brickset to other fans on the tour - a lot of AFOLs on my tour didn’t even realise Brickset exists as a place for like minded people to have a chat (and post the odd bit of nonsense) together.

Has anyone received any updates regarding the tours for this year? I'm scheduled for Sept., and who knows what the world will look like then, but I know the first of the tours are in May. I have yet to look into flights. My wife isn't going on the tour, but we were going to spend some time in London both before and after the tour.

We were supposed to go in June - LEGO allowed us to reschedule for next year (2021)... as far as I know the tours are all still on for now but that may change depending on the COVID situation over the next few months
  • benbacardibenbacardi EnglandMember Posts: 574
I kept meaning to email them and ask but didn't quite know what to say, as they probably don't know what to do yet either… mine's not until August.

@KungFuKenny Did you message them and ask to move to next year? Did they automatically put you on the same tour?

    @benbacardi
I believe since our tour was earlier we were given the option to cancel, reschedule, or keep our tour and keep fingers crossed that it would go forward as planned... sadly we decided it would be most prudent to postpone until 2021.  I suspect that TLG will contact successive tour groups a few months ahead of their respective dates to relay the latest information.  I would hope that things would have cooled down by August, but I guess we’ll have to see...good luck!

Have only people from the May and June dates been contacted about cancelling/rescheduling so far?  Anyone from Aug/Sept dates hear anything yet?  I'm in Sept, just want to make sure I didn't miss an email.

^ That's probably me, but it wasn't because LEGO contacted me; I reached out to them. I think they're contracting people nearer the time.

Last year The LEGO House was a huge part of the tour. It is closed indefinitely so I doubt the tours this year will happen.
  • DoktorLDoktorL Member Posts: 104
That means there will be even less spaces for next year as probably all the cancelled ones will be offered a place for next year. What a shame.

I have to wonder if they might add additional tours next year in order to accommodate this years postponed attendees and new folks also...

The Legoland Park will reopen at the 8th of June in Billund. That's on the web site.
  • stluxstlux LuxembourgMember Posts: 2,328
I wouldn't take Legoland Billund opening as any guide whether there will be Inside Tours this year. On the tour you spend all day long in close proximity to all other attendees, including lots of group activities with your fellow participants. I don't recall any of the rooms we were in to be large enough to keep everybody at least 2 meters apart.

In addition Denmark still has travel restrictions in place. These were recently extended to May 31, and it is possible borders will remain closed for non-residents beyond that.
For anybody allowed in, there's also a 2 week quarantine (it's phrased as "strongly advised", but I would expect TLG to consider that mandatory).

As long as these rules are not relaxed, I would not expect Astrid to be able to comment on any of this year's tours.

I am scheduled to attend 2 events in Billund later this year, but have already mentally prepared on seeing these cancelled. After an event in early March got cancelled, this might be the first year since 2017 I might not be able to go to Billund.

^ Jumalichi was on the end of May/start of June 2017 Inside Tour with me, so we both experienced it first hand and I agree it would be incredibly difficult to distance 2m with all the attendees in the spaces you go around.

I will miss Billund this year too - I didn’t go in 2019 so it’ll have to be around 3 years between visits for me!

A few of us have rescheduled for next year. I do wonder what they'll do with whatever this years exclusive set is…
  • The_RancorThe_Rancor Dorset, UKMember Posts: 1,193
They might’ve planned what the Inside Tour set was going to be this year but not ‘manufactured’ it. They definitely don’t make the packaging until the last second. Seems like a simple win for them to save until next year.

I will kick right off if TLG decide to put them in as some bizarre VIP exclusive at 10am on some Tuesday morning out of nowhere

I think they ought to give the 2020 Inside Tour sets to those whose 2020 Inside Tours get cancelled.

And if some of those people get resceduled for 2021, and they end up with both Inside Tours sets, that's just fine with me!

Definitely, but ours haven't officially been cancelled yet, and we asked to reschedule… so maybe we just talked ourselves out of the 2020 set?!

I seriously doubt Lego will hand out the set to people that got a spot this year.
First of all the autumn trips may still happen, but even if every tour is cancelled this year they can just postpone both the tours and set to 2021.
I feel sorry for the people that where going this year, but you will have to wait a year and then you can go in 2021 instead. Is it not like you will have to apply again with everyone else, your spot is safe for next year. So why Lego should hand out exclusive sets for no reason is beyond me, after all it is not their fault that all bets are of this year :S

Lego House have today extended their closing period to at least June 22.  That doesn't bode well for the June 10-12 tour.

I contacted them. They are still planning the Sept. Tour, but gave me the option to cancel or move to next year. With all the uncertainty and the fact that I had yet to book my flight and it was to be part of a larger trip to Europe (from the US), I opted to reschedule.
  • benbacardibenbacardi EnglandMember Posts: 574
I had already requested to reschedule, but I just received this message from Astrid:
    Dear LEGO Inside Tour Guest,

This e-mail is to inform you that the LEGO Inside Tour for August 2020 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 situation.

With the current restrictions of the Danish government we do not have the possibility to invite guests into Denmark in August, and therefore we have taken the consequence of cancelling.

You already decided to move your booking to a LEGO Inside Tour next year and we are very much looking forward to meeting you in 2021!

    Best regards and stay safe.
