Good Evening all.

Im new to the forums but been a reader for quite a while. I have just started buying lego sets and wanted to say hey.

I have managed to get a few bargains over xmas and have a few star wars and city sets. How many of you buy 2 of each item, and have 1 to build and to keep? Im not sure whether to do this or just buy one of each set to build.

hmmmm.

Hey! :) Welcome to the forum!
Whereabouts are you based, UK or US (or elsewhere of course) ? We in the UK did have some good pre-xmas reductions, particularly on some of the Star Wars sets. I hope the info provided on here contributed to you grabbing some bargains.

In answer to your question, I only buy one of each set and all my Lego gets opened and built, then eventually stored away again. But I know many on here do buy 2 sets so they have one to keep MISB. I guess it depends on several factors, eg what you can afford to buy, the space you've got for storage.

Anyway, irrespective of whether you go down the 1 or 2 set route, I'm sure your collection will expand rapidly over the next few months ;)

    Hi there lostintranslation

Sorry I completely forgot to say. I'm over here in the uk. We had some great deals over here tbh, one of the reasons I decided to start buying it. I also have a son who is only a few months old but thought if I start buying now in the future we will have loads of Lego to build together.

I just need to keep a look out for more and probably sell any doubles I have. We just don't have a lot of space at the moment :(

    Cheers

    Hi mayberts

My son is only 6months at the mo, but thought I may as well get a head start, and besides Lego is awesome.

I'm collecting mainly star wars and city. Aww daddy's toys. Can't wait for my little one to say that. :)

    Hello teamladd,

I'm also in the uk, i have 3 young children so i try to buy on sale as much as i can so i can get doubles and triples of city sets that i like and think they will like.
I've just bought my first 2 modulars and i don't think i'd be able to get doubles of those from space and money :(
Have you started collecting any Duplo yet? the train sets are great and i did have to buy 4 of the duplo letters sets when they was half price at Argos last year so they could spell their names :)

That's a good idea about the duplo, I'll have to keep an eye out for some of that. Luckily my sons name is short so won't need loads of tubs.

I would love to buy a modular, I'm guessing these are the exclusive building sets from Lego.com?

In still looking for a camper van and space shuttle from John Lewis. Gonna try ringing them tomorrow. :)

@teamladd: do you mean the little green and white camper? High Wycombe John Lewis had quite a lot on Saturday, so I'd say try ringing them.

Modulars are indeed the 'exclusive' buildings aimed at adults. The range currently available is Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium and Pet shop, with Town hall due to be released in the next couple of months. There are 3 discontinued mods too: market street, cafe corner and green grocer. The modulars are expensive, but very cool. There's a thread somewhere about people's fave mods and their reasoning.

Hello! I used to only buy duplicates of army-building type sets (star wars battlepacks, small castle sets) and have about half still sealed. I broke my tradition over Christmas and got a 2nd King's Castle when I heard it was discontinued. I just don't have the funds to buy duplicates of every set I like, I'd rather get a lot of different sets than a few of the same sets.

Don't go nuts on the Duplo though! My son is 2.5 and hardly touches it anymore, he'd rather play with his City sets (loves the motorbikes, the DIrt Bike Transporter is sweet!). Luckily my other son will be able to use the Duplo when he gets a bit older.
