Favorite GWP?

M1J0EM1J0E Member Posts: 644
After building #40334 last night, I think it just might be my favorite GWP!  Avengers tower done as an architecture set?  I had to be sure not to miss this one.
I’m not sure the tag is complete, and probably couldn’t account for all anyways:

But I’m wondering what everybody’s favorite gift with purchase is?
- #40290, the largest piece count one with classic set send ups (full disclosure I have this one but haven’t built it yet)?
- one of the Chinese New Year sets?  #40235 might be a runner up for me.
- some of the many Brick Friday Christmas gifts?
- a random polybag you weren’t expecting but was a pleasant surprise?

My all time favorite would be last year's #40291 Creative Personalities. It's such a unique looking build that really stands out on a shelf.

I loved #40139 Gingerbread House. Not only is it a great little set, but it also evokes that lovely Christmassy feeling (at the right time of the year). It could have been made even more perfect if they'd have chucked in a gingerbread man as minifigs are always great (looking at you this year's May 4th promo).

Second Gingerbread House! And totally agree that it’s the special feeling it evokes. There’s not many sets that actually make you tingle when you see them.

The Marvel Bricktober pack counts as a GWP, right? 'Cause that one is my favorite, by many many lightyears.

Chrome Vader and Stormtrooper. I actually got 2 chrome Vaders when they were were a GWP in TRU, opened one and left one in the poly. Can’t believe how much they go for now on the secondary market. Just love the chromed figures anyway!

I missed out on #40291 actually, and probably shouldn’t have, as it does look cool & unique.  The aftermarket is apparently in agreement with #40139, as it’s remained consistently high in price.  It would be a nice addition to my winter village for sure.  One I wished I’d made sure to get.  And I hope the Marvel Bricktober pack counts!  I got mine as a GWP at least.  I was waiting to buy something to get it (as I don’t know how to get them from TRU when it first came out), and turns out my wife got a friends set and gave it to me.  Nice!  A great compliment to the rest of my marvel stuff which goes in my city as is.  Speaking of TRU, I’d never thought of other GWP there like the chrome figs.  I was just thinking of S@H ones, forgetting that TRU has ones too.

It think it would have to be #40289 Diagon Alley for me.

#40221 was a good one. Loved the fountain, especially the extra gray hairpiece to make the statue male/female how you want. The flame yellow bike which didn't get many appearances was also great.

Also the classic minifigure series was great, especially fond of #5004419 Classic Castle minifigure.

Haha #75192 is a great GWP! :D. Even if the spend threshold his higher than most for the black card promo :D. I never did build #40289, my wife did.  But I see it in her pile of ‘sets I won’t use in my current display’ so looks like I should be giving it a build.  In addition to the castle one they had a space one too IIRC, and I have the Pirate one, #5003082, which had some great pieces to make a little pirate scene.  The nutcracker has to be right up there with the most elaborate Christmas sets they’ve done.  Anybody else wait to buy until there’s a desirable GWP?

There was a little flower cart polybag that came with Detectives Office if you bought it on release day. The great thing about that flower cart was it continued the illegal cookies theme by having a 'hidden' barrel under the cart with cookies in it. I found that to be a brilliant little bonus.

Another view for the gingerbread house which is just one of the cutests sets ever.

Diagon Alley was great with the minifig.

And I also loved that flower cart polybag!

Really liked R2-D2 #30611 and Fountain #40221 - but the best one for me is Christmas Carousel #40293 - just love seeing the train go round and round, and the children and wife love it too.

Thanks guys for the tip on that flower cart polybag!  I didn’t realize it had a barrel of cookies with it at all.  Now it’s made my want list to add to DO.

The GWPs at Christmas are always a highlight and I look forward to their reveal almost as much as the Winter Village reveal. It’s sometimes hard balancing purchases at Christmas when there’s a couple of strong gifts over that period.

I’ll only order from shop@home when there’s a decent GWP otherwise I’ll hold out for an inevitable discount on amazon.

Very cost efficiënt is ordering the parts @ BnP, if you’re not picky about owning the actual poly.

Funny you should mention BnP, as I’d just begun experimenting with it yesterday, wondering if it was a better option for replacing a couple broken/missing pieces than hitting up bricklink.  it looks like a great choice for the flower cart as they have all the pieces in stock.  Not to derail things too far, but do you know much about using it?  It seems I can submit orders for each set at a time with one brick, but is there a way to see your shopping cart & add items from different sets to it?  Thanks for an awesome idea!

I’d have to say the Classic Pirate minifigure only for the insert; but there are a lot of great sets!

Loved #40254 from a couple of Christmas ago. My wife got it from an O2 priority offer for me last year. Simple build but looks just perfect.

@M1J0E Bricks and Pieces is great.  Usually how I navigate it is by selecting "Buy Bricks" on the main page, then typing in the set number and selecting the piece I need from the list of pieces available to that set. For example, type in 40140 and it'll give the you assortment of what you can order. To change quantities of a particular piece, when you click on the piece you want, you can either change the quantity with the "quantity" selector in the window with that piece that appears on the right hand side of the page, or, you could click on the piece again however many times you want on the main list. To add pieces from a different set, click on the "Add bricks from another set" that's on top of the page - DO NOT USE THE BACK BUTTON, you'll lose whatever you've already selected.  I guess it doesn't cache. When you go to pay, I don't know if there's a way to go back to the main page at Shop.Lego.com, but if you want to order other sets, do that first, then find the link to "replacement parts" and it'll take you to the main Bricks & Pieces page and you can start that process.

I absolutely LOVE B&P and anything I can order from them, I will - plus you get VIP points which didn't used to be the case.  And you're only paying shipping from one place, unlike Bricklink orders where one seller might not have everything you need.

Thanks muchly for all the help & write up!  Appreciate it for sure.  Now to go through the rest of my sets & see what other pieces might be missing.
