SDCC 2019 Exclusive Minifigures/Sets Discussion
Last year I started the SDCC thread in May -- a topic that only covered the exclusive minifigures. This year I thought we'd start a month early, and include exclusive sets, as well! So let's get to it!
There's a lot speculation and anticipation around SDCC this year. On one hand, it is the 50th Anniversary of San Diego Comic-Con, and that could mean a particularly extraordinary year for exclusives. For that very reason, I've had my sights set on SDCC 2019 since the last day of SDCC 2018. Of course, we all know LEGO typically does not divulge any of their Comic-Con plans until just a few weeks prior to...so we've got plenty of time to kill.
On the other hand, we saw LEGO do something very intriguing with this year's Star Wars Celebration exclusive Darth Vader Bust set -- it became a Target shared exclusive. Could that be a sign of what's to come for their SDCC exclusives?
Have SDCC minifigure/set predictions? Going to SDCC this year and brimming with excitement? Thoughts on possible SDCC shared exclusives?
It's your time to sound off! Let's get some hot takes to tide us over until July :)

Hopefully it is not a Batman exclusive for the 80th anniversary or Stan Lee. Those would make it pricey unless they distribute much more of them than years past.
Perhaps something related to the Marvel Disney+ properties.
I do like the Stan Lee idea though
As for Stan, I'm sure they'll do a little something. @Pitfall69 that is an absolutely amazing thought, but I can hear the groaning worldwide now if LEGO had a con-exclusive Stan minifigure...
Minifigure Predictions
• Marvel: I think we'll see Black Widow or related character to promote Marvel's first film of 2020
• DC: no guess at all since they've given us Vixen and Black Lightning the past two years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Set Predictions
• Marvel: Spiderman Far From Home-themed playset
• DC: Joker Bust (OMG have you guys seen the trailer yet?!?!)
• Star Wars: Star Destroyer Command Bridge w/Darth Vader & Grand Moff Tarkin minifigures
(One of those I made up.)
I pity the fool that don't eat my cereal, and believe my baseless rumours!
It would be a very neat tribute if LEGO offered the San Diego Comic-Con 'Toucan' mascot as one of their minifigure giveaways -- to commemorate the 50th anniversary and all. Or perhaps a Toucan bust?
I've actually heard unreliable rumors that Funko may be doing a similar tribute this year with their Pop! figure lineup.
It's not a widely known character...so that should ease at least some of the belly-aching for the masses, worldwide, who aren't attending.
(But I agree that we're probably done with 'regular' X-Men movies for awhile. Thankfully!)
From what I recall, LEGO did not have a licensing deal with Fox. The produced X-Men sets were part of a Marvel license related to the comic books and television properties - and were careful not to resemble any of the movie properties or characters.
(When Marvel licensed the characters for films, they were smart to retain things like videogame licensing, etc.)
The exclusives lottery at SDCC was newly implemented last year, and attendees were able to enter every single lottery, if they wanted, so long as that individual held a badge for the day of that lottery draw. This resulted in large numbers of attendees signing up for just about everything (even things they didn't necessarily want) in order to increase their odds of winning something.
Exactly how many entries per day CCI is going to allow each attendee remains to be seen, but am hopeful tweak to the system increases the chance of those who actually want LEGO exclusives to win them.
Another item of note is that of unclaimed exclusives. There were literally scores of minifigures and sets to be scooped up on Sunday last year. So if you're attending on Sunday and don't win the LEGO lotteries, worry not...you very well may still have a chance of getting something that last day.
i'm actually liking this one!
Definitely a big change as we've yet to see "exclusive" minifigs in these boxed style exclusives. Predominately all common parts, but fancy packaging. This has both.
Last year LEGO really outdid themselves with their set box artwork. One could argue the 2018 artwork was more impressive than the sets themselves – that’s how good the art was.
This year, however...with the first set, we get...an oversized picture of LEGO Captain Marvel? *sigh*
Interesting... I'd assumed that torso was a new print!
I kinda dread these reveals. I'm not at the point where I can justify the insane aftermarket prices for interesting minifigs, so these are more akin to torture than exciting. :p
I don't think people realize that a lot of us in the US live nowhere near San Diego. I live 2,300+ miles away!!!! It would take less time for people to drive from Mexico City to San Diego than where I'm from in the US. Even if I lived in California (California is a huge state) it would be a nice drive especially if I lived in San Francisco (8 hour Drive). You can say it is a "regional exclusive", but it's not, it's a Con Exclusive and not everyone can get a ticket to SDCC and even if you do get in, you aren't guaranteed any Lego exclusives. It's been said many times that it would actually be cheaper to buy the exclusives on Ebay than to go to SDCC and get the exclusives for most of us.
... (holding back the anger) until the Star Wars exclusive is revealed to have Saw Gerrera in it ;)
