Did someone mention March 1st?, no idea, but does look amazing. I guess the 007 Aston was heavily rushed so they could make this masterpiece.

My word the Ford Mustang is SO much better than the Aston Martin, it’s not even funny. The 1967 Ford is my favourite car EVER, and this set does it 100% justice. Even the colour is my favourite colour. The ‘customizing’ kit is just icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned.
As far as I know, release date is indeed March 1st.

Really love how the Mustang turned out and so glad that they went for a dark blue color scheme. From the images floating around out there it also seems that the wheels can now turn but I would be interested in if, where, and how they added in the hand of god steering.

Fantastic sculpting of the car all around.

Umm...surprised by the lack of love for the Aston Martin as I thought it looked pretty nice.  Is this the general consensus?  If so, what do you all dislike about it?
Or is it just compared to the mustang because I do agree, the mustang looks great!

No doubt it's lightyears ahead of the half arsed Aston Martin. And long overdue for working steering

Will be my first creator expert car purchase, for sure- I’m an American Muscle Car guy. Hoping the Corvette gets a non-Technic treatment soon.

Was able to catch up on what I missed about the Aston Martin and boy did I miss a lot.  Anyway, the mustang might be my first big creator vehicle...an abyss I was glad I had not fallen into.

As a mustang owner and avid fan of the car (insert pro Camaro and challenger snarky comments) this is definitely going to be one of my all time favorite sets.

Bah, all unibody disposable cars.  Chevelles and Grand Sports are where it's at.  @Yodalicious - you know what I mean!

And this set is light years ahead of that first weird-sized Volkswagon Beetle!

I've mentioned it in other threads, but I'm beyond excited for this set to come out! I'm a big, big fan of the large creator expert line of vehicles (though I did skip the Aston Martin) and am very much looking forward to adding this one to the lineup.

The 60s Mustangs have been one of my favorite cars since I was a boy as well. And the blue color scheme is absolutely perfect.

Meh. 1959 Chevy Impala. Anything else is just a car. (Actually, I do think this Mustang looks really good!)

The primary reason why the Stang looks so much better than the Aston in brick form comes down to source material - the Aston is a collection of beautiful curves, a Mustang is a box with rounded corners...

I wish I could 'like' this 100x.  I grew up riding around in a '60 Chevy Impala convertible painted 1980 Corvette red.  So much chrome, and fins...

...Okay, the '60 Impala was pretty cool, too. But the '59 had cooler taillights.

Looking forward to seeing how they incorporate the steering. To be honest, I'd be absolutely fine with literally just the wheels moving given that the vast majority of buyers will have it as a display piece rather than a toy to play with. Reckon I've got room for 3 or 4 more Creator Expert vehicles on my display before I have to have a rethink!

Now that they have Dodge speed champions sets I'm hoping for a '69 Dodge Charger( though I'll take a '68-'70), or a '71 Hemi 'Cuda convertible with a shaker hood.

60s stang is definitely one of my fav cars even from being a kid as well.  So definitely looking forward to this set.  I’m an American car guy, so haven’t really looked too much at the creator expert vehicles before now.  So looking forward to this one being my first.  I didn’t realize it was due as early as March 1st though possibly.

Promobricks seems to have their hands on one of the eBay copies and are about to publish a review. Check their page an hour after the timestamp of this post and it should be up.

That Promobricks review is here: https://www.promobricks.de/lego-10265-creator-expert-ford-mustang-gt-review/76380
In German, but Google Translate does an OK(ish) job.

Functional steering confirmed. Looks like another excellent job by designer Mike Psiaki.

It's appalling that this is allowed to happen. They obtained it from a store in Austria apparently, and have published their review before we are allowed to even announce it, let alone publish our review (Chris has a copy, BTW)

Since Promobricks was kicked out of the LAN they have become lawless. LEGO can't really do much about it if their info, images, and sets are legitimately obtained. It was a mistake ostracising them.

As they are no longer in it, presumably they don't know the date restrictions others have to agree to. Even if they do, I don't blame them for publishing earlier. They are paying for the sets. They might as well get their reviews out and be making money off any click-throughs before the sites that get the sets for free.

That is sad actually.  It definitely makes it tough for Brickset, but this site has such high standards & quality I definitely don’t need to go anywhere else for news.

I can completely understand how frustrating the position is, but weren't Promobricks "kicked out" for their insistence on publishing rumours and ahead of official dates? Stands to reason they'd carry on and be worse as a result, and it makes sense for them.

Probably the more appropriate people to direct any annoyance at (and likely who LEGO will go after next) are the people selling early. If no one was selling ahead of announcements etc then Promobricks would have no way to get ahead of those playing by LEGO's rules.

That said I don't ever visit their site, just pick up the odd nugget of info people repost here.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,116
Yes, exactly,  it's 'appalling' (probably not the right word) that LEGO allows (by shipping sets early) stores to sell stuff before it's announced.

If I were Promobricks I'd do exactly the same, they are not at fault here.

I'm confused as to how non Lego brand stores have these in stock. I thought sets like this stayed exclusive to Lego for 3 months or so at initial release.
  • alldarkeralldarker Member Posts: 224
Well... Despite the dubious nature of the acquisition, I had to read the Promobricks review. It definitely looks like this set will not disappoint! I love everything about it: it looks superb seen at any angle, having the working steering is just perfect, the opening hood and trunk look great, and the tuned-up additions are icing on the already delightful cake.

I wonder how long it will be before builders make a dark green version from the LEGO 67 'Stang  (ala 68 'Bullett' car)?

How awesome would it be for Lego to release sets like this but in various colors?  It wouldn't cost Lego too much money as they are just replacing the blue bricks for green (or silver/gray or any other color) and change the colors on the box/instructions digitally.  I can see many people buying multiple copies to have a variety of colors and this might be the perfect set for it.

I used to communicate with them often, but after their removal from LAN I just can't respect them as much as I used to. My opinion on this stuff has flipped the recent years so this seems kind of scummy to me :/

Whole click-thirsty thing going around past year or so is really annoying

I can't imagine a big set available in multiple colour versions.

From TLG viewpoint, it will be same as producing 4 completely different products (assuming 4 coloured versions). The instructions will be different, packing of parts different, box different etc.

Plus 4 times the production capacities needed, which is better utilised for 4 uniquely different products.

In short, it will never happen. The best option would be to go buy 4 sets, then bricklink the needed surface colour parts.

They did sell multiple color parts packs for the "My Own Train" line in 2001. Check out #3740 thru #3748. They made 3 base sets and 5 sets of bricks to change colors. But the color sets were only 106 bricks each, so not a "big" set.

The My Own Train line was pretty cool... but TLG confused the Shop-At-Home customers by offering too many other additional items that could be used with it.  It got very confusing to figure out what to order.

The color possibilites... (with the same exact box)...
    https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&q=KT*&catLike=W&catString=124.315.694&sortBy=I&sortAsc=A&itemBrand=1000&catType=S&v=1

If they were to do this with the Ford Mustang.... they could use the same box for all the sets, with only a color label mentioning the color on the side, instead of including this on the box... like they did My Own Train sets.

I am working on adding the 2001-2018 9V/RC/PF trains to my LEGO Collectors Guide, and this had me scratching my head for a while on what was going on here...  ;-)

I guess the bottom line is that Albert Einstein was right....

There are far too many printed parts in the Mustang (a good thing really) to make this practical for Lego to do. This would be a good niche for filling by aftermarket printing company.

Also it is doubtful all the right pieces are available in other colors. The big wedges might have been in dark green in Asoka's starfighter years back but I don't think they are a current part. It would be interesting to see what color swaps would be possible.

I hate to admit this... there are 2 pair of license plate stickers that came in this set... California and Michigan.  That Michigan plate (used until 1970) was the first license plate I ever had.... when I started driving at 16.

Helps explain why my nickname on Eurobricks is "Older than ABS"!  :-O

That would work the same as the Mustang, standard version, then additional parts to turn it into a Vanden Plas version with quartic steering wheel! I'd buy it.

And now I'm thinking of a new range of "not so, Speed Champions" cars Allegro, Morris Marina, Austin Princess...
