Douglas is far and away my favorite character! He's just a loveable idiot. I think him pulling the trampoline along behind his truck to save them from the flying possessed train, or trying to fight a ghost with an archaic flip phone were my favorite moments for him. He always manages to save the day, but he's a bit clueless.

I have to say, I've been really enjoying this theme the past few months. I've got my eyes set on the Lighthouse and Train next.

One question. The back of the subway seems to align perfectly with the back of the portal. Are the models supposed to fit together? I've only got the portal, and there wasn't any indication on the box/instructions, but the design seems very deliberate.

They're meant to compliment each other, but they don't actually 'connect'. That's why they both have the same shape. It was indeed a conscious design choice. The subway set is the portal entrance in Newbury, with the portal set being the other end inside the Hidden Side. One of the designers commented on it on instagram back in January, I believe.
But, yeah, I think HS might just be my favorite Lego theme ever (well, excluding the Lego Movie themes... but they're in a unique class all of their own) Even the sets that were less than exciting to me initially impressed me when I built them up. You literally can't go wrong picking up any set in the theme. I can't freaking wait to see what comes next!

No wonder they want to take over Newbury: the Hidden Side is a full dump. The new guy looks kinda cool though. It seems the whole storyline is making a dramatic shift with this episode. I wonder what this means for upcoming sets?

Well, looks like they're setting up the lighthouse set as the "final battle" for this part of the arc, kind of like the high school was last time. I would surmise that either Lady E will be sent back to the Hidden Side or else weakened in some fashion so as to force her into hiding until she can recover or make a new plan.

Am I the only one who finds that thumbnail tag a bit awkward?

Anyway, fun episode. The shorts so far appear to have hit up most or all of the Wave 2 sets, so I'm wondering what the next episode will bring.

There were several episodes in the first series that weren't overtly showcasing a particular set. Perhaps we'll see a couple of episodes like that? I don't think wave three is due out until August(?), so either we'll get a couple of story episodes revisiting current locales or we'll have to wait a bit for new episodes... again. :p

so has anyone found the two new Hidden Side Polybags out in the wild? I haven't found them anywhere online or locally except for a couple of brinklink and ebay listings for a large markup.

  • klintonklinton Member Posts: 1,248
Nope. They're not even showing up on either TRU nor Walmart's online portals here. I won't be gutted if I never find them, but it'd be fun to get them.

Poor Sweet Sally! I guess the rumors about the wave three sets are likely true. :)

I saw some at Wal Mart in the Easter section before the Apacolypse hit. Haven't been there since though. I think ti was the one with the skeleton Douglas.

I have built the OFS from the IDEAS line and it fits so well with Shrimp Boat and the Shrimp Restaurant, the School Bus is a plus as it serves as a mobile science vehicle. I have my eyes set on the Lighthouse and the recently revealed Prision is also calling me to it.

Oh man! I'm going to want/need that. My daughter wants it, so does my Hidden Side obsessed son... it's either going to end in some sort of fight or we're going to have at least two of this set in our house.

I'm crawling away to find and join my wallet that was already crying in hiding after the Harry Potter reveals leaked.

The new wave looks amazing! That castle and the prison are both solid additions to the line.

I'm not into the colour scheme of the castle. That light blue colour throws me off, I think... And I really like that observatory tower, but I just feel like the difference in colour makes it not blend in with the rest of the set. It's nicely designed in its form, but the colours just aren't doing it for me personally!

Geeze, I'm going to miss this theme. So much has happened since building the January wave, I'd kind of forgotten why I love it so much. I'm just building up the prison, and come across this:
No proper prison toilet is complete without a trans yellow tile in the bowl. :p
This them is just crammed full of these wacky little details. It's a travesty that it's coming to an end. :/

Totally agree. It's a great theme. I really think the marketing on the boxes throws everyone off since you can't really see the amazing builds in there, but just some drawing. We can't play the game on the app but the builds are great. Looking forward to make something cool for Halloween with this!

Yeah HS has the high quality builds that the Lego movies did, will miss them for sure. I am hoping they don't get the Ultra Agents treatment and the last wave doesn't disappear a month after arriving.

I think the Mystery Castle looks great, actually!
It fits well with the Fright Knight CMF, too. I plan to moc it for it to look less HS and more Castle-like.

I keep hearing that, but I quite like the artwork myself. I don't usually keep tye boxes from sets, but I have all of the HS boxes stored away. I suppose there's perhaps something to it though, as these sets really do warm shelves. During quarantine, I ventured to Walmart a coupe of times and noticed that the Lego aisle was extremely sparse, save for the fully stocked Hidden Side shelves. Even the Trolls sets (which I adore, but it is still just Trolls...) sold through two full center aisle palet displays during that period, such was the frenzy for Lego. It was a bit disheartening to see, tbh.
The new wave seems to be selling well around here at the moment. I was at TRU this morning and notied that they had only one of the castles left, and only two or three of the firetruck and the race car. It coud be that they ordered light on these though, still having plenty of stock on hand from the first two waves? I didn't see what the shelves looked like when they were released. It's neither here nor there at this point though, as Lego has confirmed that the line is ending. :/

HS sells poorly around here. They've been discounted by 20-30% for ages, sometimes 50%, and they're still warming shelves.
I agree with the box art being a problem. They're awful to look at, especially when they're surrounded by SW, NINJAGO and Super Heroes on one side and City on the other. I always have a hard time understanding which set I'm looking at, unless I grab and turn the box around.

Yeah the box art is truly a bummer. I’m a bit dumbfounded that the knee jerk reaction, nearly unanimously around here, was that box art was a distraction, misleading, and just plain bad & LEGO continued to use this design for 2 more waves. They should have recognized the error and changed it up ... disappointing.

I enjoyed every set so far I’ve found of the theme, both for color and parts usage and potential for use ina city.

I will miss this theme for sure.

At the very least, Hidden Side sets will make great Scooby Doo scenery.
  • klintonklinton Member Posts: 1,248
I've finished building up the sets and I've only just realized that there's only one possessed civilian this time, the prison guard. There are a smattering of armored ghosts across the wave, Parker's great grandfather, and the new main villain, but only one civilian with an alternate head. There are only two civilians total actually, both of whom come in the prison. The minifigs are all lavish though (as one expects with this theme), with elaborate prints on all of the torsos and legs.
I hope they haven't scrapped the animations for this wave. I'm curious to see the story. It looks to be a bit of a scavenger hunt, with Nehmaar collecting various artifacts from the different locales. There's one each in the firetruck, prison, and submarine sets, and a little dias with all three in the castle. A decal in one of the chambers shows them opening a portal of some sort (presumably to the Hidden Side?). It's the inverse of the first two waves, I think, with him trying to get in rather than Lady E's efforts to get out. :p

I was disappointed to see that all the HS sets have disappeared from my local Walmart. I was waiting for/hoping for the train to get a further discount. I have one but a second would have been nice. Hopefully the newer wave shows up. And I still need a few from wave 2.

I was playing with the app today and I noticed that the GWP sets and polybags are hanging around in various levels. They're all off to the side and not front and center, but I thought it was kind of a fun little easter egg.

Has anyone built the haunted high school in LDD? If so please post a link! I recently bought it for a good price and am converting it to a upmarket Scottish hotel. Hence, I want to change some colours and try different ideas.

Eurobricks has a pretty robust LDD section with tons of uploaded sets. Might be on there.

Guys, what hidden side set do you think is better: 70419 Shrimp boat or 70420 Graveyard ?

For one thing: graveyards are rad, for the other: these seamen are pretty cool too.

I prefer the Graveyard. the boat is cool but a tad overrated in my book.
