[US] TRU - BOGO50% SW, Cars, City (YMMV)

Just though I'd give everyone a heads up. Was at a couple Toys R Us in the Chicagoland area today. Both were offering buy 1 get 1 50% off on SW, City and Cars sets 1/13 - 1/15. It may stack with the $10 off over $50? I didn't buy anything so not sure.

Also, on a side note I called one store and they said they had 7 of a set I wanted. Then they went to locate it on the shelf and they came back on the line saying they were sold out and the inventory was incorrect. What are others experiences? Are they stashing away some sets during their B1G150% program? That's the impression I got...

Where are you seeing this promotion? I only see the $10 off $50.

In store, or call first. I'm in the Chicagoland area.

Not offered at my TRU. You'd think it was by the 30-40% mark up on some sets, though those were Friends so there's not even that excuse.

It depends on the TRUs in your area in terms of stock IMO...
I know of one by me that never has anything and another that always has plenty of stock.. Not sure if it is because no one happens to go to the other one with the stock or what, but of course the one with more product is about 20 minutes away than the closer one :-(

I believe they purposely hold back sets because I've come in the day after their "sales" and found better stuff. Maybe coincidence, but given their practices I doubt it.

I dunno, but I went to one TRU I usually go to because they have a lot of stock and they were cleared out (I am in the Chicago area too)
The things I did get were two of the Passenger trains there as they had the BOGO going on for Cars and City. PLUS the 10 off for the 50 dollar purchase.
I had to correct them though because the BOGO did not register, but the cashier fixed it when I brought it to his attention.

As somebody who is very familiar with the Canadian TRU inventory system, I can proudly say "it sucks".

Which stores? I'm in Schaumburg today and driving into Chicago in about an hour or so.

Out west a bit, two stores in Downers Grove are doing it. Called out to South Elgin (they have lots of Lego inventory and they were not participating in the sale).

Well went back to one of the stores today to make a purchase and... they removed all the signs and acted like I was crazy when I asked about the promotion. I spoke with a manager the previous day and he was working today so he approved the promotion and stated that there was a mix-up in the displayed promotions. Guess this one can be considered dead for nearly all TRU locations.

The TRU in central TX I visited said the BOGO promotion starts tomorrow (Sunday) and the $10 off $50 is valid instore until Monday.

That would be awesome if there's a BOGO. It's not in the ad for tomorrow which is available now on the website. But there's no mention of any LEGO in the ad, so perhaps it's going to be a separate ad, or perhaps it's a regional thing.

Only one TRU I went to today was doing the sale but had squat.

I ended up visiting a store in Schaumburg and then closer to Chicago. The first one had the signs and a so so selection but since I had some certs to use up, I asked them to hold 4433 and 4434 for me. I visited the other one and it didn't have the promotion.. So I went back to the original one and they said the signs were mixup but they decide to hold on to them :)

Went to the TRU in Nashua, NH today. They did have the promotion, but the selection was very limited. One set did catch my eyes-- SW Turbo Tank. Alas, with the TRU markup ($140), the discount was only 16.7% off RRP, and I had to buy two of them. I decided to pass and pick up the City of Atlantis instead for $16, after $10 off and the R Us dollars from two accounts.

The store I went to today (South Miami) did not have the sale, but the $10 off $50+ sale, which I thought ended on Saturday, was posted as continuing until Monday (2 days longer than the normal sale).

it seems to be online now as well

^ Yep, looks like BOGO on City, Star Wars, Atlantis, and Cars?

I really need to go today then! I have $50 in rewards, plus bogo and 10 off 50, it all stacks up to be a decent deal, even with the markups
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,332
I didn't use the bogo50% off but with $10 off $50, rewards r us dollars and gift cards, I got the Batcave for $19.80. I am happy. I know it was more than MSRP but $19.80 after all discounts was nice. Poison Ivy costs more than that on Ebay or Bricklink.

^^ I hope this really is active in store. Agree with taking advantage of the stacking. It's not stacking on-line.
  • choob99choob99 Member Posts: 147
@sidersdd It stacked in store for me, although I had to argue with the manager to get the BOGO, she tried to claim that it was online only, so I called another store about 15 miles away and asked them if they were having the sale and they said yes, so I went to the manager and said it's not online only because this store is doing it in store, so she got on the 2 way radio with an attitude, then when the person told her to match the price with the other store, she threw the 2 way radio across the counter! This is a pattern at TRU, they have a sale then get an attitude with you when you want the sale price as advertised, I'm really tired of the attitude I get from employees at TRU. Anyway, I got Hoth Echo Base and the podracers and with the $10 off and BOGO and Reward dollars, I paid a total of $88.25

@choob99: You should have gotten their Corporate number and the manager's name and reported it. I would have! I'm tired of them putting up signs and then saying that you can't get the deal for whatever reason.
  • choob99choob99 Member Posts: 147
@starfire2 I have reported several ppl from my local TRU here, it does no good, everytime I go in there some employee gets an attitude with me over something, its just a terrible store and corporate doesn't seem to care, as I know I can't be the only one complaining. I watch them tell ppl off and get rude with tons of customers every day
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,332
I'm glad our local TRU's aren't like that. They might be a little on the dumb side but they are not rude or mean.
