Finch Dallow Bomber minifigure

Apparently Lego has quietly replaced one of the Resistance bomber minifigures in the #75188 set. Finch Dallow who is more film accurate is now featured. His helmet has a different print and he has a darker skin tone. Not sure if the head is a new print for that color or not. Really odd this would happen when the set is basically eol. Important news for Star Wars collectors as this could be one of the rarest minifigs out there.

    Thanks @Bumblepants
May have to order an extra set from amazon as I have the old figure. But it is a gamble really.

If you know how to read the production codes on the seals picking out a store copy could work well. Not sure if anyone has identified when the swap was made though.

    That is peculiar!

Is this a North America update only, as it’s retired in Europe.. thus I guess no new stock anywhere in Europe with the new minifigure design..
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Yes, if you can, the best place is to find this item is at the store. Both Amazon and Lego [email protected] have the picture of the old box. Not sure I would risk buying it from those places because you will probably get the old box. It is odd that Lego has changed the minifigure, but it isn't so odd that they have changed the box design and parts so close to eol.

There was a guy on social media who had posted a video of the sets and spare figs Lego had sent him, he was the actor who played him so maybe he has some insight into the change ?

  • brickedinbrickedin Member Posts: 564
Thanks for the info, sounds like these will only be found in the states and will cost a pretty penny. In fact just seen one on eBay for £175 yikes
  • sonatine01sonatine01 Member Posts: 782
@brickedin I’m sure there was a guy on the Lego sell it,want it,swap it Facebook page selling these figures for loads less than that but again no idea how to do links and that I’m afraid :-( Maybe @Fireheart can use his skills again ?

I can't imagine why Lego would do this. Has this ever happened before?

They’ve changed the First Order Stormtrooper helmet printing most recently towards the end of production runs, but previously we’ve had figures that were slightly different between the grey and bluish grey transition, as well as figures with and without eyebrows or pupils. However, the minifigs always represented the same characters- so this is another level.

^ Agreed.  I wonder if that helmet or the torso print will appear in a future (or upcoming) set.

Maybe we need a US member who is able to procure the new sealed updated sets and ship them to us good UK members? ;)

If you are serious PM me and we can probably make something work. Shipping something that big will be expensive though.

There's updated instructions added on 1/17/19 according to Brickset that show Finch.

Damn! Now I need a third Resistance Bomber? (Because I really like that ship, and at least one of them needs to be accurate!) assuming I can find one, that is!

I’ve mostly gotten away from Star Wars stuff because there’s no way I can keep up as it is, but to already have a set and have the minifigures swapped is incredibly annoying.

I wonder if Lego CS would swap the MFs, or send replacements, if you bought the bomber via [email protected]? Worth a try for those that did

I really like the new minifig. Odd they amended a set instead of releasing a different set or promo Polybag.

Or submit a 'missing pieces' form for the whole minifig, since when I bought it in 2017 it was missing the entire Finch Dallow figure? 😁😆

I heard about this minifigure change through RichboyJ's youtube video... I think it is cool that Lego is finally changing the fig. But they should have had it right from the start.

Like with so many Star Wars sets, I imagine it may have been a case of working from inaccurate concept material instead of the final film... unlike with the main characters, Lego might not have received images of the actor in costume, and had to work instead from concept art of the costume design alone.

Seems Lego is wise enough not to allow you to freely select minifigs parts from Bricks and Pieces... There goes that idea.

I looked on the LEGO website under replacement parts (since you can’t buy spare parts at the moment) and the helmet and minifigure head show up. It’s out of stock now, but they want proof of purchase for the parts. Wonder if we will just be able to buy them when the replacement parts purchasing opens back up next month

It is extremely rare you can buy minifig parts to licensed sets. When it does happen it is usually a mistake and the loophole gets closed quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lego made a bomber micro fighter with the new fig.

I checked at ToyRUs and they had a several of both variants of the set.

From what I understand, the new version has been in the wild since at least November.

That's true. We should be due for another round of Sequel trilogy Microfighters, seeing as how they're absent from the current line-up, although the next wave will be this time next year, after Episode IX's release...

I checked the MoA lego store today for #75188 and didn’t see any on the shelf. Since they are still available on [email protected] I thought there might be a chance.

A fair compromise to please most AFOLs could be for LEGO to release the updated figure in a Poly, like the recent Solo Mudtrooper and Kessel Mine Worker. This would allow people who already have the set to get the new figure without buying a whole new set, especially as it is EOL in some territories.
Although it sucks for collectors, I'm really pleased for the actor. He seems genuinely made up to have his own minifig.

Advent calendar bait figure if I ever saw one, to be honest.
Hoping for a microfighter too; anything to make sure this figure becomes widely available to all regardless of region and budget.

A resistance bomber microfighter could be an interesting little build and a great solution to this Finch problem.

I agree.  Until I run out and buy another copy of this set just for his figure.  Then I strongly disagree.

I think a Microfighter would work best, but a calendar could also be a good way to make Finch more available.
