LEGO FanLEGO Fan USAMember Posts: 188
Hey guys is this a miss printed part aI have got.

It has some eye lashes which seems strange for a man's head.

Could be.  It seems to look like this common pirate captain head:
    https://brickset.com/minifigs/pi148/pirate-captain
But every use of that head I can see doesn’t have the eye lashes.  Just the brows, but normal eyes without the extra lash to the left looking at the right eye.

That seems odd for a misprint. I'm pretty sure all heads are designed and printed separately and wholly rather than using generic components. It's possible that a small portion of a feminine head was printed over the pirate head, or vice versa. Otherwise, I would guess that it had been drawn on by a permanent marker. Where did you get this head from?

Yes, because if they printed one part of the face first, then stocked this in a bin, then picked it and printed it again at a later date then there would be the problem of aligning the first print.

I cannot find the video for heads, but this one shows torsos:

The first print is made, then the second, and so on while the part remains in the jig.

The eye is that of the pirate captain, so it looks like the eye lashes have been added on. Otherwise, the eye would be one that matches the eyelashes from a female head, as they are both printed in black.

None of the six Bucko's I have to hand feature that eyelash and one of those was from the keep set.

    Interesting!

Looks like all the pictures of that head from #70605 that I can find don't have the eyelash (there are a few of the minifigures from the set available on ebay).

I wonder if it's a one off error, or if a whole batch of the heads were wrongly printed?
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 17,024
If it is a one off error, then presumably it would be a part that was stuck in a jig after another print run, because the eyelashes are perfectly aligned with the eye region. It is too hard to tell from that photo, but I wonder if the other eye and lashes are printed in the region where the black eye patch is, and the mouth line, etc. It might even have lipstick under that mouth print.

It's not the ink bleeding from the eye print?

Whatever the mistake was, it seems to be extremely unusual. I wonder how much that head would go for. Have Lego ever made a female Pirate head with an eye patch?

For me, it is the female head with a beard that is the more interesting aspect!

Either way, it might very well be one of a kind, and something to attract high prices from collectors of that sort of thing.

It does not have lipstick or eyelashes on the eye patch from what I can tell

Sorry don't think it's a misprint. Was able to find it in the BaM parts. It's possible lego dumped them there after they found the mistake, but seeing that they put special printed parts in there now I doubt it.

I'd say that was a misprint / error part then. In fact, you can also see the eye brows as well as the eye lashes. The black lines above the patch and above the eye brow. They are not meant to be on the pirate head.

They get rid of all sorts of junk though the build a minifigure these days.
