Wooden Lego - by Muji!

Found this in the 'Muji' store at Hong Kong airport a few days go, on my way back to the U.K.

There's no Lego branding on the box, although Lego and Muji have teamed up before in H.K. to make a Lego hole-punch.

Four different shades of wood, and all the pieces connect with surprising ease and line-up almost perfectly. The precision of the block dimensions is brilliant - must be laser cutting IMO.

Nice little Xmas gift or table decoration - cost the equivalent of £30.

Must be machined with CNC? You can't cut out hollows like that with a laser.

Either way, I want some! :D

Some creative googling makes me wonder whether they are the same bricks as made by Mokulock?

I've seen very similar before, under ECO-BRICKS branding.

Wow - the similarity is remarkable. I would not be surprised if this is indeed where Muji sourced theirs.

These also seem identical. And they claim they are patent pending. I'm not sure what they would be patenting though.

Definitely CNC. The machining marks around the studs are a dead giveaway.

You can't laser wood, it would char. And yeah...looks like ripoff.

But you can milk anything with a nipple.

You can laser wood. There are lots of model kits, puzzles, etc. cut this exact way, but they all show the scorch marks along the edges. They’re all made of thin pieces, too.
