I don't see $179, that seems too low to me...

GG had the most parts, then it went down by 100 parts for FB, then down again 100 parts for GE, then down again 100 parts for PS. Now it is going up 700 parts over PS, I see $199 being the right price for this. Of course I'd love $179, and really $20 doesn't matter either way, but that almost seems too cheap to me. :)

Agreed, a higher price will definitely limit the multi buyers.

Just realized that this is another set like Fire Brigade - each town only needs one. I love the flexibility of Pet Shop, where you could buy multiples and space them out around the town, and have a row of brownstones. But Town Hall is already so huge, that any town only needs one. And doubling it would make it GINORMOUS!

@airjordan I sincerely doubt that Lego store employees are given future year projections regarding lines. Their comment sounds like speculation, either their own or someone else's. To put it simply, if Lego didn't want that fact revealed, why pass it on to someone as far down the food chain as an employee at a store?

No way this will be priced above $200. I see it being $189.99.

That said...it does look rather weird when compared to the other modular sets. Nonetheless, it's on my list to buy.

Agree, the GE needs to be twice the width, and have an extra floor IMO. I have a box here ready to open for just that purpose :)

Not to mention that one set of escalators don't make any sense considering escalators, unlike stairs, only go one way.

I wouldn't buy this if it was over $200... simply can't afford to spend that much on LEGO, esp. at one shot.

Do like the building, though, especially the color!

It is not my favorite modular...but we will buy it. My kids love these and they make a great display.

Let's hope a LEGO employee isn't reading this and decides to charge more for it. I'm quite content at the current price point. As this one is bigger, I can see the price going up, but I would never pay over $200 for this set, based on precedent of the previous buildings. I'd like them to stay consistent.

I'll buy it, but I won't put it next to the other smaller buildings. It will be on a block by itself, next to a park, set off the street a little bit with a monument out front and parking.

32 x 32 baseplate, same as all the rest. Haven't tried counting how many plates high it is.

Yeah it's definitely "Back to the Future"ish. Needs some windows along the sidewalls and a nice garden square with a fountain, MOC style :D
This is a stand-alone building for sure, not part of a line-up.

I don't quite understand this obsession with comparing this set to Back to the Future at the moment. It's a town hall, so it has that in common. Most of which have a clock. And pillars. I've seen a post that said that the time is 'only a few minutes away from the time when the lightning struck the town hall in BTTF'... clutching at straws much?

People are generally really, really fond of 1955 Hill Valley? There are worse things out there for people to latch on to.

PS - but yes, I agree that there's not a TON of similarity between the two. I guess a clock tower is all it takes.

Hmmm, something that'd sell for $200 would probably fetch about 32,000 yen in retail. But that's regardless of the strong yen. You know how the US gets the best deals ;)
Also, I wouldn't buy it at retail anyway. So I'd wait until it'd drop at least 30% to 23,000 yen or so.

Friend showed me this in the morning, I have mixed thoughts, don't like another date on the building, could make for a confusing street with multiple dates on buildings. And aside from the first floor (which looks great) I think the outside of the rest looks a little plain.

And when you look at the last pic, you see this set is HUGE!

1891 Town Hall (Ole Kirk Christiansen is Born)

and town halls are usually around for a long time so I see no problem there!

Actually the custom MOC is much better than this. I wish Lego would start putting out some modern modular buildings. My city looks like its a city from the 1940's with modern cars driving around.

I had designed a modern (nice looking) apartment block with working glass elevator and a night club underneath. I had intended to build it and sell it on Ebay but I never bothered as I thought no one would be interested in modern buildings.

why not? certainly here in the uk, 'grand designs' which is essentially about modern and contemporary architecture, is the most popular housing show on tv and has run to well over 100 episodes.

I was aware of the first date but didn't know about the second. Figured it had to have some kind of significance.

It's because were I come from I never see any dates on buildings but someone earlier pointed out that in his small town, a lot of buildings do actually have the year they were built, so I guess that's what you could assume when placing the buildings in a modern town.

I live in a small midwest town, 2500 people. 5 of the 12 original buildings on main street have the dates on them.

That looks great. Hope it's not too tall for the top of the cupboard where I usually put Lego sets.

I think this is a sharp looking building. I like that there is some restraint in the facade, but the cornice could be a little more creative.

This set is also asking for modifications. Not in changing what is there so much, but adding to it. A town hall is just begging to be a free standing building and as such there would be more detail and windows on the sides. I've already imagined ways to make it up to four times as wide.

Hopefully they release a police station next because the Town Hall would go perfect flanked by that and the Fire Brigade.

for those following the pictures, I cannot for the life of me figure out why there is a 9x23 "room" at the back of the first floor whose height runs through all 3 stories of the building. both the 2nd and 3rd floors have balconies that overlook this room, making it a ridiculously high room that is very long and narrow. it's not like a grand foyer or entrance hall at the front, which would make sense. very puzzling.

nvm I think I see what your talking about. Its like the main lobby kinda only its completely open and balconies overlook it.

not, not the elevator - the long room right next to it.

ok, figured it out. its at the back, it's the long room being used as a wedding hall area. the balconies overlook it to allow for more spectators.
