Chinese New Year 80101

Has anyone by any chance found a retailer online that is able to ship these Asia Pacific exclusives to the UK?? I absolutely love this set and the Dragon Dance too, and must say I’m bitterly disappointed they are only available for the Asia market. I can understand a Polybag or small set being exclusive to a particular place, but a decent set like this makes me question what Lego are playing at. Surely all they are encouraging here are ebay sellers to go out on mass, buy up every set in sight, then triple the price on eBay once the stores sell out. This means only they win. Genuine buyers will miss out and we in the West just get ripped off. Hence my question, if I can buy direct from a retailer, then that avoids the eBay rip off. However one retailer I contacted in Australia says they are restricted by Lego to only selling the sets there and are not allowed to ship internationally. Madness!!

Indeed. But I think give it some time and you might see this pop up elsewhere. Similar to the LEGO Batman pod polybag #5004929.

^ I’d be happy with one copy of each of the Asian market items.

I'd love to help you all out, but unfortunately I don't have the time, money or experience to do anything. I'm sure there'll be a few on the forum willing to buy and sell in bulk for a reasonable price.
  • BrickByBrickBrickByBrick Member Posts: 748
I really like all 3 but I won't buy until the overseas price goes down significantly, really hope they become affordable here.

@madforLEGO Also worth noting that North America and Europe aren't exactly short of regional exclusives... just nothing as distinct and unusual as these.

I'll check the box dimensions of the sets when they come out and see whether they fit into prepaid shipping boxes from the local post office. If they do then it'll be easier. I'm going to pick up 80101 on the 1st of January anyway.

    Though a few conditions:
    1. There is a high chance the boxes will get damaged in the post (unless anyone has any pointers otherwise? I've never shipped Lego sets before)
    2. I will take full payment upfront via PayPal at cost plus shipping (or possibly a 50% deposit, with full payment after shipping)
    3. Shipping will likely take 3-4 weeks (probably as long as it took your Secret Santa gift to arrive?)
    4. The package will be tracked (and possibly insured, but I need to check with the post office on this)
    5. I will not be responsible if the package somehow goes missing (but I can help you make enquiries/reports at the post office)
    6. I won't be buying in bulk (mostly because I can't afford to), but I do visit a Lego store every Saturday, so can buy them as soon as anyone confirms and pays, then ship them out the following week.

More info (ie shipping cost) to come later on once I confirm they actually fit in the prepaid boxes.

I would be interested in #80102 depending on shipping charges to UK (assuming your prepared to do that?!)

I'm interested in all 3. I will build so can do without the box if necessary.

Actually that's an idea. Shipping should be less of an issue minus boxes. Will figure it out once I get the sets.

I would definitely be willing to go through with this for all three (sans boxes as well) if it wouldn't be overwhelming to you!

Glad to see they’re popular!  They sure look like awesome sets.  I had to google it, but it looks like CNY is Feb 5.  Is there a possibility that these could be released at some point outside of the Asia pacific region?  There are many in other regions of the world who would be celebrating CNY, even discounting the AFOL demand in this thread.

Thanks for the offer @Jern92 !
I would like to get one of each for #80101 and #80102 , but I guess the biggest thing for me is seeing an idea of shipping would be to the US boxed or unboxed (if you want to go through that hassle anyway).

  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,241
Cool!  I'm wondering if the shipping would be cheaper if you shipped all of the US-bound sets together?

(Obviously, depending on weight, package girth and whether @Russell844 wants to pool shipping.  I'll PM you.)

@Jern92 which store is that? From your photo it doesn't look like either the one in Pavillion or in KLCC.

It's the one in Bangsar Village 2. I went for the store in the smaller mall hoping to avoid crowds (obviously that didn't quite go according to plan!).

It seems Lego have correctly anticipated the demand for this set in terms of production. Now, if only the sets would hurry up and appear on Australian Shop@Home...

I'm not charging a premium, so just cost plus shipping. However, I will be sending the sets minus boxes, so if you'd prefer them sealed, I suggest Bricklink as a good alternative. Note that 80103 isn't available yet.

If you're ok with my conditions, I'll add you to the list. Note that there's no guarantee that sets will be available, as it depends heavily on stock availability at the stores.

Over 100+ of 80101, but only 2 cartons of 80102 (6 sets). Strange.
