Are the lights in the correct positions here? Wouldnt red be on top?

    It would appear not?  (I don't know drag racing...)

    (Looks like red is on the bottom.)

    Red is disqualification, the lights go from yellow to green down from the top. Red is if someone jumps the gun on the start.

    I figure someone does the accuracy research over at LEGO.  I can't recall them making such errors in the past.

    The top amber lights (two 2x1 tiles) are the pre-stage lights, first one comes on as the car drives up and breaks a beam a few inches from the line, then when the front wheels are in the correct position the second set comes on. Then the three ambers come on followed by the green for go. As @madforLEGO said, if you fail at any of the pre stages or jump the start the red comes on and you're disqualified.

    Same here. I learned something cool from this, but was not at all what I was expecting.
